"Prime Example - A Visit With John “Prime” Hina"

If itʻs true a pictureʻs worth a thousand words, then what we discovered on the side of a building recently must be worth ten million. Urban mural artist John Hina, also known as “Prime,” was part of collaborative effort to paint Hawai`iʻs history and future in a huge single outdoor mural using only spray cans of paint. What they created in a mere thirty days is breathtaking. Join us in our visit with John at the mural and youʻll see why people are still coming from far and wide to witness it for themselves - Watch It Here

UHMC Pow wow

On November 19th 2011 at the University of Hawaii Maui college I and other Hawaiian studies students were able to participate in a Pow wow. Our Oli papa open the event with chants that we learned throughout the semester. This was the first event that our oli papa chanted at outside of class. It was a very humbling experience to chant with my other classmates and feel the Mana grow with every chant that we chanted. The Hawaiian club that we are also apart of were selling Kalua Pig plates. Students and I were able to also join in dancing with the different Native American dancers. Thank you to all that help make the Pow wow possible and allowing me to connect with other indigenous people.

IS HAWAI`I A FAKE STATE?

 090822fakestate.jpg

The United States acquired Hawai`i through force.

Queen Lili`uokalani, Hawai`i's last Queen, was deposed on January 17, 1893, by a group of American businessmen supported by the United States Navy and Marine Corps and diplomatic representatives.

Sovereignty of Hawai`i was allegedly transferred to the US on August 12, 1898 during ceremonies at `Iolani Palace in Honolulu, on the island of O`ahu by a small group of foreign business men who called themselves the "committee of safety."

Hawai`i allegedly became a US territory in 1900.

On Nov. 23, 1993, The United States apologized for illegally overthrowing the Kingdom of Hawai`i, and recognized the inherent sovereignty and right of self-determination of native islanders.

Needless to say, a lot of shady events took place between January 17,1893 and August 21, 1959.

There is not one document or shred of evidence to show that any land was transferred or given to the US by the Hawaiian Kingdom.

Aloha 'Aina

I was asked to write what aloha 'aina means to me. I thought and dreamt about what I should share. This poem came in different dreams and here is the end result.

With blurry vision I stand

The Spirit: “  aina gives life”

The spirit forces my hand to land

The Spirit: “  aina gives life”

I see and feel what’s done

The Spirit: “  aina gives life”

Just injecting and rape of all she has

The Spirit: “  aina gives life”

It’s not stewardship but Kinship

“  Aina gives and is life”

I stand with no blur but humbler with Consciousness

“  Aina gives and is life”

I feel like in my dream The Spirit that I refer to are my Ancestors that have passed on. They see that I have been influenced and forgot the relationship I have with 'aina. I'm grateful that I'm Conscious.

Young Asians have supported the Occupy

Young Asians have supported the Occupy Wall Street phenomenon by occupying their own cities in the past month. Whether or not one supports these Occupy movements, what's unmistakable is the fact that it is not just the bottom rungs of our society who are dissatisfied with the status quo. It is also those who are in their prime years, having received decent education and grown up as Asia's tiger economies were taking off. They are the "tiger cubs" - young people who grew up in Asia's fast-growing economies with protective parents who use their newfound affluence to ensure that their children make the most of opportunities that the elder generation never had. ...Moncler Down Jackets Moncler Down Coats Moncler Collection Moncler Online Moncler Vest Moncler 2011 Moncler Mens Jackets Moncler Women Coats Moncler Kids Moncler Women Vest Moncler Mens Coats Moncler Womens Jackets Moncler For Kids Moncler Boots Buy Moncler

PROTECT HUMAN RIGHTS, CULTURAL RIGHTS, AND THE RIGHT TO PROTEST!!! All of these would be dealt a severe blow by City Council Bill 54 (introduced by T. Gabbard), which is being finalized TOMORROW, 2:30 @ Honolulu Hale.
PLEASE HELP TO FIGHT!!!  Even a VERY short email (e.g. "please do not pass Bill 54) would do a lot.

Here is the link to email testimony on Bill 54: http://www1.honolulu.gov/council/emailph.htm
Here is the measure: http://www4.honolulu.gov/docushare/dsweb/Get/Document-117327/6btfbxr0.pdf
Here is the online speaker registration: http://www1.honolulu.gov/council/attnspkph.htm (like I said, I am not sure that they will take any speakers, but it does not hurt to try).

Please do the right thing.

Me ke aloha ʻoiaʻiʻo nō,

p.s. I just completed a weeklong cultural ceremony dedicated to Kānāwai Māmalahoe in Waikiki this past week, due to the pressing nature of this issue.  This ceremony generated MUCH positive attention to the subject.  I was told repeatedly by HPD during the ceremony that "when Bill 54 passes, we will not let you do this".  Please understand that, although I am a powerful community peacemaker, this would without a question mean WAR -- and when a peacemaker goes to war, she will fight righteously until victory.  I will never let the cultural rights of my people, nor the human rights of our poorest citizens and those who speak out against the abuses of government, be trampled out of existence in the name of real estate concerns, convenience, and lack of creative solution-building.  Here are some pictures and links to help you understand this better:

“My Hawaiian Genealogy - A Visit With Robert Ebanez”

Being Hawaiian in most of the 20th century meant assimilation. Speaking Hawaiian, studying the culture and learning your genealogy were all discouraged. Such was the world Robert Ebanez grew up in, yet as a teenager he found himself yearning to learn those very things. Donʻt miss our visit with Robert as he recalls an encounter with his auntie who much to his surprise turned out to be not only one of Hawai`iʻs greatest scholars, but the one largely responsible for the Hawaiian Cultural Renaissance today - Watch It Here

Canadian Dictator Prime Minister In Hawaii

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is in Hawaii for the 'Three Amigos' conference.   Harper has created a police state in Canada making sentences for growing or having marijuana sentences higher then those for pedophiles!!!   He has eroded democracy and wants to end the reservation system to assimilate First Nations (Canadian Indians) into society.  He wants to sell off all our resources and create a private prison system.  He is a 'new Christian' and has created a theocracy.  Harper is doing his best to sell Canadian resources to the world.  Please do not support this man!!!

Honolulu Civil Beat - November 8, 2011

The protests at `Iolani Palace on Monday may have been peaceful. But the demonstrators seemed to have more of an edge in the courtroom.

A Honolulu judge on Tuesday released 19 Hawaiian sovereignty protesters, but not before indignant exchanges with the prosecutor.

When their legal names were read aloud by the state attorney general, each one objected and asked to have the record reflect often just a Hawaiian first name prefaced with "his highness" or "her highness."

Each one stated they are not US citizens and are "living sovereigns" of the Hawaiian Kingdom.

The protesters have been charged with second-degree criminal trespassing, a petty misdemeanor, for refusing to leave the palace grounds despite a state order.

And while members of the group Aupuni O Ko Hawai`i Pae `Aina/Hawaiian Kingdom Government told media Monday night that they would go back to the palace after being released, it's unclear when they'll return.

After the arraignment, several declined to talk about next steps and said they planned to rest and celebrate with their families this evening....
