PROTECT HUMAN RIGHTS, CULTURAL RIGHTS, AND THE RIGHT TO PROTEST!!! All of these would be dealt a severe blow by City Council Bill 54 (introduced by T. Gabbard), which is being finalized TOMORROW, 2:30 @ Honolulu Hale.
PLEASE HELP TO FIGHT!!! Even a VERY short email (e.g. "please do not pass Bill 54) would do a lot.
Here is the link to email testimony on Bill 54: http://www1.honolulu.gov/council/emailph.htm
Here is the measure: http://www4.honolulu.gov/docushare/dsweb/Get/Document-117327/6btfbxr0.pdf
Here is the online speaker registration: http://www1.honolulu.gov/council/attnspkph.htm (like I said, I am not sure that they will take any speakers, but it does not hurt to try).
Please do the right thing.
Me ke aloha ʻoiaʻiʻo nō,
Laulani Teale

p.s. I just completed a weeklong cultural ceremony dedicated to Kānāwai Māmalahoe in Waikiki this past week, due to the pressing nature of this issue. This ceremony generated MUCH positive attention to the subject. I was told repeatedly by HPD during the ceremony that "when Bill 54 passes, we will not let you do this". Please understand that, although I am a powerful community peacemaker, this would without a question mean WAR -- and when a peacemaker goes to war, she will fight righteously until victory. I will never let the cultural rights of my people, nor the human rights of our poorest citizens and those who speak out against the abuses of government, be trampled out of existence in the name of real estate concerns, convenience, and lack of creative solution-building.
