UHMC Pow wow

On November 19th 2011 at the University of Hawaii Maui college I and other Hawaiian studies students were able to participate in a Pow wow. Our Oli papa open the event with chants that we learned throughout the semester. This was the first event that our oli papa chanted at outside of class. It was a very humbling experience to chant with my other classmates and feel the Mana grow with every chant that we chanted. The Hawaiian club that we are also apart of were selling Kalua Pig plates. Students and I were able to also join in dancing with the different Native American dancers. Thank you to all that help make the Pow wow possible and allowing me to connect with other indigenous people.

  • Leonard Peltier is a great part of the sovereignty movement here on Oahu as well as throughout the Pacific Ocean.  If one goes to Laulani Teal's blog cite go through until one reaches Gail Prejean.  He used AIM (American Indian Movement) to futher the stop the bombing action on Kahoolawe.  Oglala is our sister sovereignty movement.

Years have gone by and I do miss Gail a lot.

Right now it's not okay for the rest of the Hawaiian Nation to come to an 'ideology' agreements on state platform.  One must stand tall on Na Kanaka issues, until the Hawaiian Nationals are in place.

The Pow Wow is okay, however so is our Independence Day on Nov 28th at UH Manoa as well as Makahiki (I never knew if this is war or peace).  Remember we are not the pilgrims getting together with the Native Americans for Turkey day.  I too celebrate with my children on Thanksgiving Day (a contridictory) but as a Kanaka, I stand on the side of my culutre.

The native american 'state/federal' recognition have caused lots of damage to the Native American people across the US and it's all about selling native lands and gambling casinos for education.  One needs to know language, art/craft in other to be recognized under their state/federal rules.  The 'roll' is a death march to the beat of yanky doodle and the outcome for the roll is a death certificate.

Have a wonderful day, I mean that!
