TAXPAYERS STUCK WITH UNSOLD SUPERFERRIES

Ferries In Default Rust On Taxpayer Dime
data.jpeg

Hawai`iʻs two former Superferries sit at a dock in Norfolk, Virginia, waiting for someone to take them off the government’s hands.

The US Maritime Administration has taken bids for them in an attempt to recover some of the $138 million in taxpayer money paid to cover defaults on loans it guaranteed for the owners, Hawaii Superferry Inc.

The company sought bankruptcy protection and defaulted in 2009.

Hawai`i Superferry, chaired by former Navy Secretary John Lehman, spent up to $20,000 a year lobbying Congress, the maritime agency, the Environmental Protection Agency and other agencies on Title XI and “vessel financing issues” between 2004 and 2006, according to federal lobbying disclosures.

The loan guarantees helped the firm finance the ferry purchases from shipbuilder Austal USA, based in Mobile, Alabama.

The Superferry’s default occurred because a Hawaii court ruled the state shouldn’t have let the company skip an environmental impact study, said William Schubert, maritime administrator from December 2001 to February 2005.

Today marks the 113th anniversary of the US imposed illegal annexation of Hawai`i.

How has this played out for Hawai`i Nationals and native Hawaiians?

Native Hawaiians constitute roughly 23 per cent of the population, yet represent 54 per cent of the prison population.

They have the lowest per capita income, highest poverty rate and shortest lifespan of any ethnic group in Hawai`i.

Despite record profits for many businesses, jobs are scarce and most of the available work pays minimum wage or close to it.

On every island married couples with children often work two jobs each to make ends meet - if they are fortunate enough to find that many jobs, even at minimum wage.

Hawai`i imports two-thirds of its food from the US mainland. Locally grown food is expensive due to high land prices.

Is it any wonder more and & more people want the illegal annexation and occupation to end?

Let's pretend I visit your house. You offer me food and rest. I decide to stay.

Then, I order you and your family around, use your things and rearrange the rooms. I take down your photos and religious symbols, replace them with my own and make you speak my language.

One day, I dig up your garden and replace it with crops that I can sell. You and your family must now buy all of your food from me.

Later, I invite my father and his buddies over. They bring guns. We take your keys. I forge a deed and declare my father to be the owner of your house. I bring more people. Some work for me.

Some pay me to stay in your house. I seize your savings and spend it on my friends. You and your family now sleep on the porch.

Finally you protest. Being reasonable, I let you stay in a corner of the house and give you a small allowance, but only if you behave. I tell you, "Sorry, I was wrong for taking the house." But when you demand your house back, I tell you to be realistic.

"You are part of this family now, whether you like it or not," I say. "Besides, this is for your own good. For all that I have done for you, why aren't you grateful?"

da KAKA BILL 195 PONOSIZED

da KAKA BILL 195

9334361470?profile=original

Governor NEIL ABERCROBIE of the FAKESTATE enacts bill 195 to further the DESTRUCTION and GENOCIDE for Native Hawaiians and their "NEUTRAL" SOVEREIGN KINGDOM NATION
Gov. Neil Abercrombie on Wednesday signed into law a measure that recognizes Native Hawaiians as the indigenous people of Hawaii.
Act 195 gives the governor the power to appoint a five-member Native Hawaiian Roll Commission that will build the foundation for self-determination.
“This is an important step for the future of Native Hawaiian self-determination and the ability for Native Hawaiians to decide their own future,” Abercrombie said. “This commission will put together the roll of qualified and interested Native Hawaiians who want to help determine the course of Hawaii’s indigenous people.”
Act 195 starts the process that will eventually lead to Native Hawaiian Recognition. While in the U.S. House of Representatives, then-Congressman Abercrombie worked closely with U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Akaka on moving the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act, which was first introduced in 1999.
In 2000 and 2007, Abercrombie successfully shepherded the legislation through the U.S. House of Representatives committees and won approval by the full House.
Akaka praised the bill signing stating: “The enactment of this bill is yet another example of Hawaii’s ongoing desire to recognize the unique contributions and traditions of the Native people in our state. Native Hawaiian values shape our sense of identity, our sense of aloha for one another, and our sense of what is pono, what is just. This new law complements our efforts in Congress and demonstrates that the people of Hawaii strongly support the right of Native Hawaiians to reorganize and perpetuate their culture and way of life.”
U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye said: “The passage of this bill by the Legislature and enactment by the Governor will aid our efforts in Washington to recognize the self-determination rights of Native Hawaiians. This parallel course demonstrates a measure of support by the people of Hawaii for the recognition of the native people of this land and will facilitate their efforts toward self-governance. It is right, just, and long overdue.”
Akaka and Inouye originally were scheduled to attend Wednesday’s bill signing in Honolulu, but stayed in Washington, D.C. due to Senate business involving ongoing debt ceiling negotiations.
More than 150 people attended the bill signing ceremony at Washington Place, including groups representing the alii societies and trusts; OHA trustees, Native Hawaiian civic clubs, and state lawmakers.
Abercrombie has 180 days to appoint the five-member Native Hawaiian Roll Commission. The Commission will be responsible for preparing and maintaining a roll of qualified Native Hawaiians as defined by the Act. The roll is to be used as the basis for participation in the organization of a Native Hawaiian governing entity. The Commission is composed of five members, one from each county and one at-large seat. Once its work is completed, the Governor will dissolve the Commission.
“We recognize the special relationship to Native Hawaiians that is part of our public conscience, enshrined in our laws, and entrusted to our leaders,” Abercrombie said. “With the signing of this bill, the State of Hawai’i is closer to the reorganization of a Native Hawaiian governing entity. As Native Hawaiians rise, all of Hawai’i rises.”
The Office of the Governor will announce the application process for consideration to be named to the Commission later this week.

HOW WAS HAWAI`I ILLEGALLY TAKEN OVER?

USA covert and overt activities led to the invasion of the Hawaiian Kingdom and immediately recognized the phony "provisional government" proclamation without the people's knowledge.

Without US military intervention and US complicity, the US puppet provisional government would not have lasted for more than an hour.

Using that backing, they created the Republic of Hawai`i against the people's wishes.

All legal attempts to annex Hawai`i to the US failed because the people overwhelmingly protested and sent their Ku'e Petitions to Washington DC.

It was ignored by the pro-annexationists and provsional government.

In covering up the hoax, Congress passed the Newlands Resolution falsely declaring the majority wished for the annexation of Hawai`i without a lawful treaty.

That's how Hawai`i became unlawfully annexed even according to US laws.

WILL HAWAI`I SECEDE FROM THE US?

164588_485727361506_668411506_6497874_1687327_n.jpg

Hawai`i is not, and has never been in or a part of the United States.

So you cannot secede from something you've never been legally part of.

You cannot quit something you didn’t join. You cannot resign from something to which you don’t belong. You cannot divorce from someone to whom you were never married.

Hawai`i regaining its independent status is a matter of reinstatement; of putting something back into its rightful place.

Since Hawai`i was never lawfully made a part of the United States, its rightful place is still that of a sovereign, independent nation.

The current status of Hawai`i is that it’s people, lands and government are being held captive by the US.

The Hawai`i independence movement is not seeking to secede from a bad union, it is seeking freedom from captivity, and the freedom to resume Hawaii’s status as a sovereign and independent nation.

DID YOU KNOW THE HAWAIIAN KINGDOM WAS A MULTI-ETHNIC NATION?

In 1843, Hawai`i was a recognized independent nation.

Hawai`i had treaties with 25 world nations and had 96 legates and consuls throughout the world, including in the US.

But US covert and overt activities led to the 1893 invasion of the Hawaiian Kingdom and the US immediately recognized those who overthrew the kingdom without the people's knowledge.

Using that backing, they created the bogus "Republic of Hawai`i" against the people's wishes.

All legal attempts to annex Hawai`i to the US failed because the citizens of the Hawaiian Nation then overwhelmingly protested and sent their anti-annexation petitions to Washington, DC.

In covering up the hoax, Congress was forced to pass the Newlands Resolution declaring that the majority wished for the annexation of Hawai`i without a lawful treaty.

That's how Hawai`i became unlawfully annexed, and ultimately a fake state.

Uke strumming ali'i

Sometimes I think people make such broad statements, just for the sake of making a point.  From this page on the ukelele, he states:

"The ukulele received royal acclaim with nobles such as King Kalakaua, Queen Emma and Queen Lili'uokalani playing this instrument. This in turn may have made it more accepted by the people of Hawaii"

Really?  Where is it written that any of them played the ukelele?  Kalakaua and Liliuokalani were known for composing many songs and may have played the ukelele, I don't if it's true or not, but did Queen Emma play as well?  In her autobiography it doesn't mention that.  And why would the alii playing it make it more accepted?  It's like the Hawaiian people couldn't decide to do anything themselves unless the alli were doing it, or told them to do it.  Wouldn't the Hawaiians working and living with the portuguese, see them playing it and want to learn that way?  What did they do when a portuguese handed them an instrument and said "Here you try..." , " oh, no, no, I cannot, I need to know if my chief approves."  ????  haha.

PhotobucketAloha kakou, he Hawaii au,Just sharing my mana'o on the past celebration!July 31, 2011 Ka La Ho'I ho'I Ea came and went. The half day celebration was good but for me somewhat confusing. I have been attending this lokahi since 1987 and this is the first time I recall sharing the park with Canines (K-9's). But then, I found out Thomas Square is the only "Dogs Allowed" Park in the City & County of Honolulu and is part Special District Design in the U. S. National Register. The Civic Center, NBC Academy of Arts, etc. I got at Thomas Square at 7:00 AM to seek my site to put up a tent for Kalei Maile Ali'I (KLMA) HCC and FREEHAWAII and so noticed quite a few park residents under the cover of the giant sprawling Banyan tree, the center stage of Admiral Thomas Square, Liberator of the Hawaiian Nation.Back in the late 1980's, I also worked at First Insurance Company of Hawaii which borders Beretania Street, Ward Avenue and Hotel Street and on occasions would have lunch in the Park. There were a few park residents then but no dogs. This past Sunday, Juky 31, 2011 the park residents were having a house-warming and the dogs were the guest of honor and it seemed the Hawaiian Nationals were trespassers. I spoke with the Maintenance Man who was hosing down the restrooms and asked him how is it that Canines were having a show when July 31, is a National Celebration of the Hawaiian Nation. He replied they (Canines) always get permit for their dog programs and did not know no anything about Hawaiian Sovereignty Day Celebration. I said to myself, " where have I heard that remark about no permit before"?As the morning progressed, by 11:00 AM, we had more Hawaiian Nationals than dogs or Homeless. In fact, some of the Homeless said they don't have a house but they have home in the Hawaiian Nation. By 2:00 PM Hawaiian Nationals were leading 400 to 5, the dogs went back to their kennels and the homeless went to Kaka'ako Park for sunset dinner. Now, the dogs and the Homeless can't be blamed but the Parks Department of the City & County and the Mayors Office can be blamed. Two days of the year Hawaiian Nationals celebrate in memorial to La Ka Ho'I Ho'I Ea Restoration of Hawauiian Sovereignty on July 31 and La Kua' okoa Hawaiian Independence La Hanau of Sovereignty on November 28. Two days out of 365 for Hawaiian Nationals to celebrate in ho'o maika'I for the makana of Hawaiian Nationality by King Kamehameha the Great and his son King Kamehameha III, Kaui'keaouli while the dogs and homeless have 363 days to frolic in the Park. This is not ignorance. This is arrogance, the same arrogance that created Martin Luther King Birthday january 17 a State Holiday to silent the remembrance of the alleged overthrow of Queen Liliu'okalani and the Hawaiian Government on January 17, 1893. (Well planned1)Thomas Square is a vital lesson in Sovereignty. In early February of 1843, Lord George Paulet by naval power threaten to seized the Hawaiian Islands due to some concocted excuse that deprived an English subject in the Hawaiian Islands of their rights. Under Kingdom Law Hawaiians could not sell lands. Paulet lowered the Hawaiian Ka hae and raised the Flag of England over the Hawaiian Kingdom who was not internationally recognized as a Sovereign Nation. At the same time the Hawaiian Kingdom had seeked International recognition as an Independent Sovereign Nation of equal status by United States of America in late 1842 and by England and France in early 1843. There are records that indicate like Captain James Cook, Lord Paulet, sailed for a private commerce interest that of the East India Trading Company. On July 31, 1843, Within months, on July 31, 1843 Admiral Richard Thomas of HMS Royal Navy terminated the "occupation of the Hawaiian Islands by renegade Lord Paulet and restored the International Recognition of the Hawaiian Nation. That restoration is the validity of an internationally Recognized Sovereign Nation or Country. The English understood it but the Americans haven't got it yet!The United States of America under the veil of International Law of "Legal War" has militarily occupied the Hawaiian Nation since 1898, based upon "the Doctrine of Necessity" in the American-Spanish War in early 1898 which ended after two months. That "Doctrine of Necessity" terminated in mid 1898. That War is over, go home G. I.In honor of Admiral Thomas, King Kamehameha III, declared the area known as Kulaokahua as the first public park in the Hawaiian Nation and in 1850 renamed the area after Admiral Thomas. In 1925 the City & County of Honolulu named it Thomas Square which is now on the U. S. Historical Register, Special Design District. Kuloakahua (Thomas Square) is as sacred to Hawaiian Nationals as I'olani Palace and Mauna'ala is to the Ali'I. It should be the center of Hawaiian Nationalism and not a park for doggies and homeless. It should be the home of the Ku'e Petition of 1898. La Kua'okoa and Ka La Ho'I ho'I Ea became the first National Holidays of the Hawaiian Nation and were celebrated from 1843 to 1893. It wasn't until 1975, when Kauka Kekuni Blaisdell revived these National celebrations. The agenda of this years celebration was the "same ole, same ole" I think the agenda should allocating each faction 45 minutes to report of the pro and cons on vital issues of their activities. Each faction should focus on one or two issues and birddog the bugga to the end. While we were engulfed about Akaka Act 195, the 10,000 legged he'e went move and got Ambercromie to signed a 65 year leases for Fish Farming! And the Mayor CarLiar Railroading the people. We lack planning or plan last minute. I did not hear anyone on Sunday mention APEC? We are up against the greatest planners in the World. The USA just one of their lieutenants in their Syndicate. The alleged overthrow was just a diversion to create an illusion that American and European foreigners in the Hawaiian islands were being threaten by the Hawaiian rulers and the Hawaiian people as to soften the landing of foreign troops on the soil of an Independent Sovereign Nation. . The Committee of Safety were creation of the United States of America and their corporate partners, no different than Fidel Castro, Freddy Marcos, Noriega, Sadamn Hussein or Col. Quadafy, all elements of a well-planned agenda. Remember the Dean of Coaches John Wooden of UCLA, 'Failure to Plan, is Planning to Fail".I have asked International scholars about the Sovereignty of Baltic States being restored after their oppressors strategically pulled back like the Vikings of North would. Estonia was a "white slave" of Russian Empire and of Hitler's Germany since early 1930 to late 1990's. My question to them was how long did it take for them to come into an agreement of what they wanted? I was told it was slightly over a year. Slightly over a year after nearly 70 years of bondage and millions of slave camp deaths. But what did they WANT so much that brought them to lokahi? They only "NEEDED ONE THING, SOVEREIGNTY" That is all they needed. The Hawaiian problem is bag full of WANTS and no NEEDS! You would think Keoki Fukumitsu, who has dedicated his life to helping and serving others through farming and cultivation of kalo or taro, the staple Hawaiian diet, would receive some thanks and maybe even an award or two.

Instead, he and his family, who have been on their land for over seven generations farming taro, making poi and feeding others are now in danger of losing it all.

Developers and others are attempting to gain title to his land because itʻs worth money and lots of it.

Keoki looks at his land and sees the taro he grows through his own back breaking work which enables him to feed his family and others in the local community.

Developers and others look at his land and they see fistfuls of dollars.

When we heard what was going on we went out to meet Keoki and find out why they call him the “Kaloman.”

What we discovered amazed us - not only a real life picture of how itʻs been done for thousands of years, but also a prime example of how to create a sustainable Hawai`i for the future.

Donʻt miss our awe- inspiring visit Keoki the Kaloman, and why he really is one of Hawai`iʻs true heroes all this week on

Tomorrow is La Ho`iho`i Ea - Sovereignty Restoration day in Hawai`i.

It was a wrong made right after five months - the restoration of the Hawaiian Kingdom when forced under British rule in 1843.

In the early 1840s, during the reign of King Kamehameha III, English consul Richard Charlton made outrageous land claims against the Hawaiian people to provoke a British takeover.

At his request, a British war cruiser arrived on Feb. 10, 1843, under the command of Lord George Paulet, who demanded special lands and rights from the king for British subjects.

In order to avoid bloodshed, Kamehameha III ceded his kingdom to Paulet under protest and appealed to Queen Victoria for redress.

British fleet commander Adm. Richard Thomas, enforcing his country's policy that the laws and customs of native governments be treated with courtesy and respect, sailed from Mexico to Hawai`i to remedy the trouble.

On July 31, 1843, Thomas ordered the Hawaiian flag raised and the kingdom restored at a ceremony at Kulaokahu`a - which today is known as Thomas Square named after him.

Kamehameha III proclaimed a 10-day holiday, and throughout his reign, July 31 was celebrated as La Ho'iho'i Ea or Sovereignty Restoration Day.

He also proclaimed the now famous motto, "Ua mau ke ea o ka `aina i ka pono," which means, "The sovereignty of the land is maintained by right behavior."

Join Us Noon - 6 PM Tomorrow At Thomas Square In Honolulu To Celebrate. The Public Is Welcome At This Free Event With Free Parking.
