Appreciating Part 2 : Choices...

Sometimes, you have to take life by the horns...& Sometimes, you have to play on the bulls team...2020June20buddha.jpgI really wonder sometimes why people choose to do the things that they do. Take for instance, today I had to stop by the office to pick up my paycheck. Yeah, I still do the paper thing cause it helps me keep track of everything & I still haven't gotten around to signing up with a different bank. Anyway. While I was driving down a side street near Wally World on Beretania, I was behind this lady (I think it was a lady) in a white civic. We stopped at the corner & waited & waited. She could have gone, but for some reason didn't. Then the light changes & BAM! She steps on the gas. Mind you, there was a whole sidewalk of people waiting to cross, who, having the right-of-way, stepped off not knowing this lady was psycho. I close my eyes, hoping I'm not gonna be an eye-witness to some horrid accident. Thank God, nobody was hit. But there was a huge group of stink-eye armed people glaring at this lady, who I don't think it even dawned upon that she was in the wrong. All I could think was, "Damn, I gotta get away from her!" So I'm watching to see where she's going, in hopes that I can go in the opposite direction. I needed to go to Barnes & Nobles in Ala Moana to pick up something for my tita, so I was hoping this lady wasn't going in the same direction. Nope, she wasn't. Thank God! I appreciate the humbling experience, but Good God, that was freaky!PurpleLotus-1.jpgOne word came to mind....... KARMA. My very close friend was telling us that when it comes to karma, we cannot stop it. We just gotta step out of the way & let the Kupunas take care of it. If we try to do anything (like take revenge), we only screw things up & make matters worse, & most likely adding more karma to our own pot. My other just-as-gifted friend came over last night & was telling us something similar. Then she explained it in more detail why we always say, "What goes around comes around ten times harder". She explained that when we send out energy (good or bad), the world searches out similar energy (not determining the difference, just knowing that it's like energy), & sends it right back to the person who sent it. The Kupunas like that we send out energy & they wanna send it back to us, but with more this time. It so made sense & so made me thankful that I cut ties with a lot of people. Especially one in particular, who I'm hearing so much things about from the birds. While I'm sitting back & watching this person dig an even deeper canyon for him/herself, I can't help but think, "Wow, ballsy ah?" I'm already seeing a part of this person's world crumble & I'm not throwing a party over it, but when you don't appreciate something/somebody, you don't deserve it/them. With that said, I just hope whoever is still involved with this person that they don't get hit with the pile of kukae that's coming around.gratitude.jpgOther than that, just appreciating all that I have in my life. My family's doing great. I'm doing great. Within the last 2-3 weeks, I was offered 4 new jobs. It's kindda crazy cause I'm not even looking.. I have a job. Class is fabulous, of course! & the people in my life... Unbelieveable! They're so AWESOME! I love them! I've been going out a lot with my brother & our close friend. He's been taking us here & there with him & introducing us to more awesome people. I can't wait for the rest of the year! It's gonna be so cool! As for the rest of my free time, I know things could be different, which is why I'm happy & appreciative, but I also aim for the best as well. It's all about that one word.......

darkside.jpg ththICONATOR_cbed35f4a27dcc488cf81e.gif damnpenguins.jpgAs some of you know, I work with Special Needs kids in school, one in particular on a one-on-one basis. On this particular day, we ended up in Math class (A Special Ed. class). The class of 4 is already small, but when one kid is on suspension & the other is at home, the class seems even quieter. While we're sitting there, this kid (We'll call him "Tommy") starts laughing hysterically. Considering he's Autistic, it doesn't even phase me to see him doing that, & if you've ever read up about Autistic children, you understand why. While he's doing that, I see the other boy in the class (We'll call him "Jake") looking at me, wide-eyed, like he was scared. So I look at him & start laughing. He starts laughing too, comforted in knowing that it's okay. Jake often sleeps in class, so I wasn't surprised when I turned around to find him out cold only a few minutes later. Meanwhile, Tommy's still laughing at God knows what. Eventually I hear him mumbling something & decide to listen cause he never tells me what he's laughing at. I hear him say something to the effect of "the penguins...... that's a stupid joke......" or something like that. So I ask him, "What? What did you say?" He starts laughing hysterically. So I ask him again, "What did you say? What about the penguins?" He starts laughing even more hysterically. By now, I'm laughing too cause it's hillarious watching this kid laughing at nothing at all. So I tell him, "Eh! What are the penguins doing? You better tell them to leave you alone cause you gotta do your work!" He starts laughing some more, then he tells me, "No, but I like them, they're funny." So I tell him, "NO! Tell those dang penguins stop telling you jokes & leave you alone cause you need to do your work!" He starts laughing some more. Of course my telling him to get back to work & leave the penguins alone doesn't help. So I finally tell him, "EH! Tell those penguins if they don't wanna leave you alone, then at least help you do your work!" He starts laughing hysterically again. By now, I'm part laughing, part thinking I'm going nuts myself, part wondering if IM the one that fell asleep, & another part kindda mad cause this kid barely did any work. But in the end, I just told myself, "At least it was something crazy funny"....insanity.jpg thlol.gif ththwhite3.gif 15265a.gif

Aloha mai ia kakou:Haunani did a good job in referencing the opposition of the settlement (KWO-Mei2008/pg 29). However, the dynamics of the opposition is not clearly defined when naming the individuals. The list is incomplete and could have filled the page many times. For expedience she listed the more vocal individual objectors and safely eliminated the groups that objected.Habitually, they (OHA, media, US Congress) have lumped together all objectors regardless of their arguments and stance on the general issues. There are two other factions in these scenarios that need to be identified properly to visualize the real dynamics at play. This is why it seems it cannot be resolved until all parties end up on the same page where truth and facts are revealed. From that point only, can there be a resolution to the situation. On one hand, we have the Hawaii nationals and the US government with the facts and the US refusing to accept it because it will lose a very strategic position in the Pacific. On the other hand, we have those that are ignorant of the real status of Hawaii with some in denial for they fear they may lose what they invested or afraid of uncertainty. There are those that suffer from the Stockholm Syndrome; not wanting to face the truth and facts; while many are brainwashed by the propaganda and conditioning that whatever is revealed, they will not believe the truth when it hits them in the face.Let's uncover the two factions that have been lumped together and see what the two stand for; Their concept, perspective and interpretation of the issues. This is a good time to use critical thinking to determine where you stand in all this and do you feel confident with your decision. Weigh in the facts; then you will know which path to take and what is just. One group being the Hawaii nationals whose primary objections are the wording and intentions of the Akaka Bill and OHA's intervening actions; the suppression and blocking of Hawaii Nationals' voices who urges the de-occupation of the USA from the Hawai'i Kingdom; shunning the international issue and embracing the US tribal system; OHA being a state agency and the question of conflict of interests in some issues; the sponsorship of creating a tribal governing entity to usurp the jurisdiction of the legitimate existing Kingdom of Hawai'i while ignoring the other non-Hawaiian multi-ethnic Hawaii nationals; perverted justice to preserve the ipso facto State of Hawai'i in its corruption in reneging its self-imposed obligations. Add to that, the fact that OHA does not represent us but the community-at-large who has elected them into office. And the other group being, the US Americans who cite racism and question the constitutionality of OHA, Kau Inoa, and the Akaka Bill; those who disregard USA's liability and trust obligations; the same ones who resent Hawaiians as indigenous to Hawaii who have an official recognized nation-state under US belligerent occupation; those feeling threatened of being in Hawai'i as US Americans (that have vested interests in Hawai'i under the fraud perpetuated by their country). These antagonists are the ones who would like to see OHA disbanded and the obligatory responsibilities and trust eliminated. They insist on the status quo of being U.S. American citizens in Hawai'i and it being part of the USA. They claim there is no Hawaii nation nor any "real Hawaiians" left and that all residents are Hawaiians of the State of Hawaii, USA.They profile all native Hawaiians as being on welfare, lazy, thuggish terrorists, racists who want special privileges for themselves. These haole (foreign) settlers want the same privileges and advantages they are accustomed to as it is when they were on the US mainland. They're tactic is reverse-racism and to revise Hawaiian history. This has been primarily headed by a group that have openly declared war against the Hawaiians and seek support from small and big businesses, and their clubs in Hawai'i. The most vocal has been Ken Conklin, Senator Slom, Maria (Malia) Zimmerman, William Burgess and his wife Sandra, Thurston Twigg-Smith, Earl Arakaki, and others.OHA sees fit to ignore the Hawaii nationals and lump them together with the US Americans connected with the Federalist Society along with those that also decry racism and un-constitutionality of the Akaka Bill. This is scurrilously done to make it appear that all native Hawaiians are for the Akaka Bill. This concludes the two-sided argument for and against based on racism and unconstitutionality versus a political native American-indigenous group of Hawaii with its governing entity/organization. It conveniently eliminates the third faction of this issue, the Hawai'i Nationals of the still existing Kingdom of Hawai'i, albeit under the ongoing US belligerent occupation. This is the unresolved issues related to the so-called "ceded" lands known as the Public Land Trust. In fact, this is an international issue rather than a USA domestic or internal issue. The growing educated awareness of the Hawai'i nationals have forced the courts to take a look at our legitimate complaints and they have responded that this is a lawful and legal issue that needs resolving. Thus the ruling on the land settlement and the reasoning why we rebuke OHA's attempt to create a new governing entity and the push for the Akaka Bill."OHA trustees do not believe that they are the entity that could ever release the claim because it's part of the state," Scheuer said when explaining the settlement. "It would have to be a Native Hawaiian entity elected by Native Hawaiians."Scheuer is quite correct in his statements. Now connect the dots. OHA would have to intiate or sponsor a native governing entity using the Kau Inoa registry and advancing the Akaka Bill to accomplish this claim. That was their strategy from the beginning; to herd the Hawaiians into one organization under the ruse of being a tribe the Akaka Bill would create as a "Reorganized Hawaiian government", an entity the USA - State of Hawai'i would recognize as the legitimate representative of the Hawaiians, to secure the claim of the so-called "ceded" lands to negotiate among themselves to completely steal the lands of the Hawaii Nationals while maintaining the status quo we now experience. History does repeat itself!Has OHA done any good for the native Hawaiians? Yes, they have in some cases; but that's for another discussion.Tane

State Ethics Commission says Superferry will not be punishedAssociated Press - Sunday, May 4th, 2008HONOLULU (AP) - The state Ethics Commission says Hawai`i Superferry will not be punished for grossly underreporting its lobbying expenses last year. The company spent nearly 380-thousand dollars lobbying lawmakers in 2007, as it fought an environmental impact statement and then asked for legislation allowing it to resume interisland service. But Superferry executives initially reported only 22-thousand dollars in expenses.Executive Director of the state Ethics Commission Dan Mollway says the company cooperated in amending its reported expenses. He says the mistake did not appear intentional.Ethics Commission records show Superferry spent more than twice as much on lobbying as any other organization in 2007. The second-highest lobbying expenditures were by a pharmaceutical group.

Hey Uncle PonoJust wanted to let you know I was reading OHA's newspaper today and in her(haunani's) article she was mentioning names of non-supporters of Akaka Bill including yours, Andre Perez, Ikaika Hussey, Mililani Trask, etc. But she really didn't write nicely about the people she mentioned. They should probably have it up at the OHA website or something.Just wanted to let you know.
Right on Let it Be known Haunani Apoliona, is a TRADER to the HAWAIIAN RACE & SOVEREIGN NATION of HAWAI'Ihau.gifrocks2.gifOha3.jpgsteal.jpglight3.gifEA.jpghome1.gif

Worse when that attitude comes from yet another Hawaiian. And why Colette Machado is still voted as a trustee I will not understand. I received OHA's Ka Wai Ola paper yesterday. Here's a link to the article I'm referring to that made me so upset.http://www.oha.org/kawaiola/2008/05/col-machado.phpIt's entitled "Moloka'i's real loss". Real loss? Here are some things I'm quoting with my own "translation" from that article that really got me upset. But first the residents of Moloka'i need to face reality. And it has to start with those who oppose any economic development.Translation: Molokai needs to be developed, that's the reality! The strident voices talk of subsitence farming and living off the land. Some can do that. But it's not a solution, and the activists know it. Most residents need jobs with benefits.Translation: Since people will not leave the island for economic opportunity, we need to bring it to the island. Living off the land is great for farmers and Hawaiians nowadays can't cut it by living off the land. Because many of "Molokai's jobs" have great benefits! (sarcism)..the missing piece in our economy is investment in a primary enterprise that can generate jobs.Translation: Nothing in the past has been successful for the island's economy because of Molokai's consistent stance against developement. Only this offer would've proven the be very successful, like with everything else that has happened in the past. (again sarcism)If implemented, the plan would have sustained the Ranch's ongoing operations which employed 120 Moloka'i residents. We could also reopen the Kaluako'i Hotel and Golf Course and create more than 100 new permanent jobs as well as outsourcing opportunities for Moloka'i small businesses, such as the laundry, a health spa and eco-tour activities.Translation: Although only 120 people out of 7,000 were employed at the Ranch, still creating minimum wage jobs, would've been enough to say that the economy is strong although cost of living shouldn't be better. This could've been an opportunity to open other businesses of the Ranch that would've given possibly a hundred other minimum wage jobs. Most of us were reluctant supporters of this part of the plan, but we were assured that this would be the last development on Moloka'i Ranch land.Translation: The enticement of land and/or money seemed promising after the Ranch offered that on the table. For now, this would suffice and maybe in a couple more generations would the island have to deal with future developments, but for now, this probably would be the last development. Unless in the near future we see complications that were never foreseen.Moloka'i would have remained rural.Translation: Your definition of "rural" isn't the same as mine. "Rural" means not like Honolulu, but we can development as much as I feel is enough. No, its parent company, guocoLeisure Ltd., is not a faceless and ruthless global corporation.Translation: Whatever research you did on your own and told everyone else about isn't true because I know more than you do.It is high time everyone commit to honest and realistic assessments for each other, our 'ohana, our kupuna and our future generations, and work toward the common good.Translation: I, Colette Machado, swear that I and only I alone know what is good for the island of Molokai, and that everyone else needs to come to their senses because no matter what you decide, you still wouldn't know what is best unless it's what I have in mind.===========================Ah yes, nothing like Colette writing in Ka Wai Ola to express her frustrations because what she felt was beneficial for the island was not what the people on the island wanted. It doesn't really matter what the residents what, because in Colette's mind, she feels that as a trustee, she should have the last say and that only after her scrutinizing and analyzing a situation, can she be the one in that decisive factor. In other words, Molokaians don't know any better, only she does.

Don't Bust a Move Dayne!by Juan Wilson on 5 May 2008On Wednesday, April 30th an anti-GMO meeting was held in Hanapepe at the United Church for Christ. Among the sixty or so people attending were Richard Hoeppner, of People for the Preservation of Kauai, and Dayne Aipoalani, of the Kingdom of Atooi. Dayne was with his wife Toni and twenty month old daughter Alana.Dayne and Richard have known each other and worked together. Richard is a retired police detective and Dayne wanted to have the Kingdom of Atooi marshals get some formal police training, especially in conflict resolution, and mediation. The two have also worked against the Superferry coming to Kauai and against Syngenta spraying herbicides next to Waimea Canyon Middle School. Dayne and Toni had become alarmed because neighborhood children had become sick and even one of their own had become ill after Syngenta spraying. The anti-GMO meeting broke up about nine p.m. The Dayne and the family got in their truck and headed to the parking lot exit to get on the highway going west and home to Kekaha. When he got to the stop sign, at the highway, Dayne noticed a darkened police cruiser parked next to Hanapepe Park. It turned on its lights and pulled up to the stop sign opposite him.Suspecting something, Dayne did not pull out onto the highway, but waited for the police car to move first. It didn’t. Fifteen seconds went by. Suddenly the cop car turned right onto the highway heading west. Dayne followed him.As Dayne pulled away he noticed two vehicles emerge from the church parking lot and follow behind his truck. A SUV and a sedan. At this time Rich Hoeppner was preparing to leave the church too. Rich drove east towards Kalaheo. As Dayne continued west there was little traffic as he came to Moi Street. But there another police cruiser was parked. It fell into line behind him and the two unmarked vehicles. In less than a minute Dayne was passing the National Guard facility on the makai side of the highway. Three police cruisers joined the parade. The police cruisers all at once turned on their flashers and in front of Salt Pond Store pulled Dayne over and boxed him in. Police swarmed Dayne’s truck. From the unmarked SUV four SWAT police emerged in camo and vests. They carried gas canisters and other special equipment. The police team was lead by police officers Steve Sueoka and Detective Hank Barriga. Dayne knew he was in trouble because of Sueoka’s role in the August 2007 Superferry demonstrations. In December of last year KPD Chief Darryl Perry recognized Sueoka for his exceptional assistance of the United States Coast Guard during that time. After Dayne’s car was surrounded by the police and SWAT team there was a lot of yelling. Sueoka said; “You are under arrest!”Dayne said; “What for? What did I do? Wait a minute.”When asked to get out of his truck Dayne did not understand why. He got on his cell phone and called friends for advise and help.Richard Hoeppner got a call as he was passing Kalaheo. He turned the car around and headed for Salt Pond Store.Sueoka continued; “We have a warrant.”Dayne answered; I’m not getting out of the car until I know what’s going on.”Sueoka showed Dayne the warrant. As it turned out the warrant the police were carrying was for failure to show up at a plea hearing on the charge of impersonating an officer. During the August Superferry demonstrations Dayne carried a badge identifying himself as an officer of the Kingdom of Atooi. He never claimed to be a KPD policeman. He was surprised by the police action because of a meeting he had to discuss the issue of Kingdom of Atooi marshals and their responsibilities. The meeting was in Lihue with Chief Perry on November 8th 2007, attended by KPD officer Roy Asher and others. It was understood by Dayne that a line of communication was opened with the KPD and that they would contact him if questions regarding the issue of the Atooi marshals needed attention. Moreover, the warrant regarding the plea hearing was not applicable because Dayne had demonstrated to the court that he was at the hospital emergency room at the time of the hearing. Dayne provided the court with paperwork for a medical excuse concerning his failure to appear. It seems the court had excused him without correcting the warrant paperwork. This came out in the exchange between Sueoka and Dayne. Sueoka said that if Dayne had paperwork with him to prove his excuse there would be no arrest.Dayne did not have the documents in the car. Referring to all the men and material used in the arrest proceeding Dayne countered;“Why didn’t you just call me on my phone to come in and take care of this matter?"As spoke Dayne pointed out that his cellphone number was prominently written on the warrant. ”Sueoka had had enough; “We have a warrant for you! We have to execute our order!”By this time Rich Hoeppner had made the last leg of his way to Salt Pond Store on foot. The police had closed the main highway near the store. Some of Dayne’s people from the Kingdom of Atooi had also arrived to witness the scene. More police arrived. Toni thought there might be as many as thirty policemen by that time.Police were breaking up any groups of passerby greater than three in number. No public assembly was allowed for local people. Richard, a haole, was able to get to the front of Salt Pond Store when one policeman asked him if he wanted to get a newspaper or something. Richard used that as an invitation."Yeah, I need a newspaper".Richard asked the policeman if that wasn’t Dayne’s truck in the middle of all the trouble. Then Richard was confronted by another KPD officer, D. Martin, who called out that;“We know who you are. I saw you at the Superferry!”Martin told him to get his paper and get out of there. The police proceeded to yank open the doors on Dayne’s truck. Police officers tried, unsuccessfully, to pull Dayne from his truck. SWAT team members pushed cans of gas in Dayne’s face. They opened up the back to expose Alana. Dayne was concerned his wife and daughter would be caught in the middle of a violent confrontation. He sensed that the actions of the police seemed to be an attempt to provoke him into making a mistake. They had overwhelming force at the scene.Dayne decided to comply with the order to leave his vehicle. He told Sueoka and Barriga that he would get out of the truck if they did not harass his family, adding;“I’ll go with you guys, but I’m not under your jurisdiction.” Dayne was never read his rights when they took him down.Dayne was brought to the Lihue station, booked and given a copy of the arrest record. The bail is set at $2,175. Immediately friends and family tried to call the 24/7 bail bondsmen on the island to free Dayne. Toni and Richard found that none would respond that night. While in Lihue an unidentified police officer asked Dayne about the Iolani Palace occupation by sovereignty advocates on Oahu. He was casually asked how many of his people were there. Dayne won’t be free that night.Later the police took the arrest record from him. Dayne was taken to the Kauai Correctional County Center (KCCC) and spent the night in jail without bond. Richard was up all night trying to free Dayne.Toni drove home quite upset. She was not followed but got a call shortly from a friend who had spotted two police cruisers parked in the dark down her street watching her house. The next morning a guard at KCCC also asks Dayne about the Iolani palace incident. apparently sovereignty activists anywhere in the state were being connected to the palace occupation. Later Dayne was transferred to court; not in his own clothes but in an orange jumpsuit in shackles on his hands and feet. Toni and Richard Hoeppner was at the court the next morning and were very upset. Before the the judge, Kathleen Watanabe, Dayne stated;“There was no notification of a court date after I missed my plea hearing”.The judge said that no notification was necessary. A plea of not guilty was entered and a jury trail on the impersonation of an officer was set for June 30th. Toni had pulled together the bail money. After some more legal hassles Dayne was finally free to go home around three in the afternoon.Sometime after, early Friday morning, that Richard had a heart attack. He was flown to Oahu and is still in the Staub Hospital. Dayne sister Keikeilani went over to visit him. Richard is scheduled for a triple-bypass operation on Thursday. He is in Room #302. You can call him at 1 (808) 522-4000.One lesson to be learned from this behavior by the Kauai Police Department is how seriously the connections between the anti-Superferry, anti-GMO and the sovereignty movement are taken by Hawaiian authorities. Dayne is involved with all three and he is Hawaiian. This makes him a danger to the status quo.In addition, Hawaii State Attorney General Mark Bennett is deeply involved with not only the conspiracy of the State with the Superferry Corporation to avoid the law, he is also facing a disenfranchisement of the State of Hawaii to manage Hawaiian government land. The recent Hawaii Supreme Court decision to deny the State "ownership" of ceded land is a fundamental problem for the whole apparatus of control. The Kingdom of Atooi has made a direct challenge to title of ceded lands on Kauai that is right under the feet of the westside GMO companies and the PMRF easement agreement that was negotiated with the State. Challenges to the status quo are certainly simmering. If you carefully follow the events of the night it becomes clear that the KPD was stalking Dayne Aipoalani with a great deal of manpower, equipment and expense. That kind of police action might be appropriate for arresting an armed murderer or to bust a meth factory, but not to execute a warrant on a failure to make it to court on a charge of carrying a “phony” badge. This huge KPD effort was over a failed court appearance where there was a medical excuse on record. It is further evident to me that the police were trying to taunt Dayne, to make him angry, to make him make a mistake - the result would have easily provokes a violent response by the police. This kind of baiting is unforgivable behavior for a force of professional “peace keepers”.God forbid you are on their list for your activities and have an open can of beer at the beach or are having a fight with your spouse. Don’t tase me bro!

Ola Na Iwi: The Bones LiveBy Hale MawaeIn caring for my ancestors, I know that it is within the bones of our people, na o‘iwi o Ko Hawai‘i Pae ‘Aina, that our ancestors live. Ku‘u ewe, ku‘u piko, ku‘u iwi, ku‘u koko. My umbilical cord, my navel, my bones, my blood. All the elements of our body that constitute us as kanaka maoli. All cherished pieces of ourselves that connect us to that iwi. Ola na iwi. The bones live. Here within the iwi is the life of our people. Our deep spiritual resonance and connection to that source with our iwi. That which is most sacred. Our kupuna, who we serve and protect in the highest and at all cost. That is our kuleana. The bones must live. They must be cherished and held dearly as our brothers and sisters; because as the ‘olelo no‘eau states clearly, they have life, they gave life. the bones live. Generations upon generations, surviving on ‘aina which thrived and was forever giving. Our kupuna never imagined that our ‘aina would become such a distant place from their descendants. Their lives, which paved the way for us to stumble upon this bare Earth to seal the survival of a hundred generations to follow in our place. E ola mau e na poki‘i! The ohi‘a lehua tree falls and another bud rises in its place. A resurrection of life. Na o‘iwi o Hawai‘i!That is our kuleana. To live. To breathe. Ha. To give life. Our kupuna never wished that our struggle would be so great in this corrupted time and place we struggle amongst today. Yet, we must carry on in defending these offensive and culturally insensitive tirades that come from all angles of the illegitimate, illegal, and fabricated state of Hawai‘i.A state being manipulated by the occupying U.S. Nation and military; their accompanying, co-conspirator corporations; incorporated third and fourth parties; and those few individuals who still refuse to believe the god, honest truth. That Ko Hawai‘i Pae ‘Aina is still an independent and lawful nation, with an enacted and lawful constitution set forth by Kauikeaouli: Kamehameha III. The truth continuing to be shadowed in blatant secrecy as the illegally acting state government has refused to recognize the error of their ways.“Others say its because Lingle awarded high-level government jobs to "pro-growth”people who lacked proper experience. This in reference to the fact that Peter Young, who resigned as the head of the DLNR concerning statements he made to state officials before his term was renewed, came from the real estate industry. In addition, Melanie Chinen apparently had no experience in historic preservation before Lingle tapped her to headSHPD.” (www.honolulumagazine.com)Chinen says she’s tired of having to defend herself. There are times when she has considered resigning from the job, she says. “Many nights, I have left this office, crying, thinking I cannot do this anymore. I am tired, I am burnt out,” she says. “My children don’t want me to be here. It hurts my whole family.”Trying to evoke sympathy and apologetic legal explanations just doesn’t cut it. I don’t think it really gets to the root of the problem. A‘ole pono! It doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface. Sympathy doesn’t make up for buying and selling property that no one, but the remaining survivors of kanaka maoli have a clear title to. Creating fraudulent documents of title and land guarantee so we can go on digging up more iwi, throwing heiau rocks into a rock crusher, and desecrating more beloved ‘aina in the dishonorable act of “fast tracking” development projects. How does sympathy make up for thousands of iwi kupuna being removed from those same illegal land purchases for military, commercial, and private real estate expansion?‘A‘ole Pono! It doesn’t!“That is absolutely untrue,” Melanie Chinen says in commenting on a Hawaiian activist who proclaimed that thousands upon thousands of iwi remained to be buried in the illegitimate State.“It’s more like a few hundred.” She says in a homely statement to Honolulu magazine, which preceded her resignation in late November 2007.A few hundred? Can we see some numbers on that please? A few hundred can be quite a lot of bones when you base it on a loose base count on the broad definition of “a few?”What is your definition of a few hundred? Are we talking like 200 hundred plus equals a few hundred here? Or are we talking like 500 plus equals a few hundred?Chinen who has since resigned from her position as SHPD administrator has been caught up with legal scandals implicating her work ethic as having “fast tracked” projects on preservation of precious Hawaiian cultural archaeological sites. These serious allegations she faces carries over across all illegitimate state and county SHPD offices, including the persons as named in civil lawsuit Ashley Chinen, Robert A Masuda, Bob Awana(who shortly thereafter resigned from his position under Lingle’s administration), Peter Young(also resigned), Laura Theilen(still in office), Nancy McMahon(still in office), Melissa Kirkendall(still in office), and another twenty-something John Does.Concerned sites, which included implications on their work with SHPD for development projects for Wal-Mart(illegal), the army’s Pohakuloa bombing site(illegal), Kawaihae Harbor concerning expansion for the Superferry harbor improvements(we could spend a field day with this one; also illegal) and the Stryker brigade(illegal), and even the Turtle Bay development on the North shore of O‘ahu(yup, folks you guessed it ILLEGAL).All major development issues that have caused major controversy through out the “state” as the iwi kupuna continue to be unearthed with no solidified plans for reinterrment.Every single iwi kupuna that has been dug up falling under serious illegal practices not only within lawful jurisdiction of Ko Hawai‘i Pae ‘Aina as clear title cases stand, but breaking state laws and violations within its own illegitimate state processes for burial treatment if inadvertent discoveries. That’s what most lawyer’s like to call a double whammy.Nevertheless, “a time-consuming process.”Our kupuna who have been buried in culturally distinct resting places, which have major cultural and spiritual ties that go far deeper than the realms of Western spirituality, philosophy, and archaeology can even begin to comprehend and explain with a 12 page archaeology report. Are we so culturally insensitive that you have to ask an archaeologist for mana‘o concerning a culture that has a beating heart, standing strong, and breathing right in front of your face?Pure ignorance. To ignore. That, which is ignored. Not made aware. Neglected. A misogynistic mirage created by an illusionistic portion of Western society that has depraved us of our ability to walk upon our ‘aina freely. Those same unfortunate iwi being forced into dry wooden boxes. Tagged, broken, and fragmented. Covered in dust and dirt. Torn from their cool cavern chamber or pebbled sand dune.Being stored in an air-conditioned Matson container, while illegally acting officials on a trumped up “burial council” sit and twiddle-dee their thumbs. While archaeologists and state officials make decisions based upon political motives for development projects and money. Cases as large as containers being stacked to the sealing with little wooden boxes made out of ticky-tacky for our iwi kupuna.Serious and dire decisions that are then made under the table by scheming land developers. Protected by their lawyers who act on a basis of law that has no legal standing in a fabricated state, but more importantly hold no legal standing on fabricated land documents that can be easily challenged with genealogical land title awards. The few sell out Kanaka Maoli cultural icons, who sit on a table and pawn political motives coming on high from SHPD. A council taking direction under duress from an archaeologist who doesn’t even have credentials to be making decisions on such matters concerning very important cultural sites. And let’s not forget about the land developers who get more excited about a million-dollar-turn-around shoreline property building permit dropping into their pants from SHPD and DLNR, than the excitement their desperate housewife can get out of them in the bedroom. The same kind of archaeologist, where, in the case of Naue, have dished out potentially “fast tracked” orders of an archaeological dig utilizing a backhoe that not only “disturbs” the remains, but destroys 8 whole sets in the process.BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! The backhoe chugs out a huff of smoke as it lurks across the soft sand leaving behind foot deep trenches as it tears its head into the sand to make the first “inadvertent” mistake of its life. The backhoe strikes the skull of a child leaving it broken and shattered in the sand.“Keep digging.” They follow their “fast tracked” orders.Stop! But, the general public usually doesn’t have privy to this kind of information. The general public doesn’t even get the common courtesy to know what’s being discussed on the table at levels of DLNR, SHPD, or the measly burial council. The public doesn’t even get a public posting at their county offices what time the meeting starts and where the meeting is actually located. The exclusivity of their meetings makes you think you might have to R.S.V.P. to get in through the door. Thank goodness for the reliable coconut wireless for meeting times and places, or half the decisions they let come through the door would go flying right back out the window. The public has limited online access, as it is the privy of the council to post minutes as they find it necessary. No camera’s or public television access are required for recording their minutes. Absolutely no physical access to previous minutes, burial treatment plans, or archaeological findings that are said to be stored in boxes on someone’s floor somewhere amid the rest of their piles of rubbish. As the office of DLNR at the state building has stated that they don’t have room to house such documents. If they don’t have room for documents, no wonder bones end up in cold metal storage containers, and artifacts end up on private collector’s shelves. You might be asking yourself the question, how is any of this due process in any way legal?Well, the reality of it is. It’s not legal. That’s the truth. Completely and totally illegal. So, after spending the last couple of months patiently digging away at internet blogs, online articles, legal, and state documents. After losing many nights of sleep staring at a computer screen, compiling information that always seemed to point me in the right direction to help save our iwi kupuna, but never really gave me a straight answer to how all of this was being allowed to happen. After sitting through ridiculous meeting after meeting to try and make sense of their retarded illegal process.I finally came to the conclusion as I was beginning to plant hala trees under the shade of the false kamani trees at our camp at Naue, that the truth is like the wind when you are sailing on a canoe. Sometimes its hard to hear, but when you really listen and keep your ears open, the faintest sound can be heard. Sometimes it’s just a whisper. But that’s when you find it. And Once you find it, then you catch it.Then you follow its direction until your sail is caught and you’re being carried off over the horizon until you reach that new land. With the great hope and kuleana of cultivating that new land and sailing back for your other loved ones. That is the truth.I’ve come to the solid realization that we as the people of Ko Hawai ‘I Pae ‘Aina must fulfill our inherent duty to care for the iwi of Naue, and our ‘aina at all cost. Also truth.I’ve sat on the point at Naue for many nights and often wondered what my ancestor’s saw when they stared from the sea, to the mountains, to the night sky above. What did they see past the point of Makana as it was enraptured in the blazing setting sun. What images would they invoke from within them as their thoughts gazed into the future? What ho‘ailona would they read as the wind and clouds shifted before them? The ocean currents changing with the season as warmer waters flow from the south. Our ever dignified kohola migrating into the cold Northern distance. What did they see?Naue’s true character stands prominent with many hula, mele, oli, and mo‘olelo that have survived in the face of a thousand indigenous extinctions since the time the Western foreigner’s arrived, and decided not to leave. Oral traditions that have kept the true character of our sacred places alive. Places that have been historically captured with kanaka maoli’s superb poetic language, creative thought, and dignified expression.Na Hala o Naue. The many hala trees of Naue. Naue, which was told to me by a kupuna that it is like the swaying of the ocean, when you look far out to see and watch it go back and forth like the hips of a graceful hula dancer. “How the Hala trees would once bend and sway to the rhythm of the wind and rise of the tides.” She says to me with the biggest smile upon her face. I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and imagine I can hear the sound of the wind in their broad green leaves. As her smile fades, I open my eyes and look around at the million dollar homes being crowded on to the beach and the image is gone. I begin to comprehend, and not “wonder” what happened to Na Hala o Naue and the Hala trees so famed at this particular wahi pana. This special, sacred place. There is no place for them in a world full of multi-million dollar, pimped out vacation rental homes with 5 bedrooms and 4 baths. All built to perfection with their ocean front view, and well groomed landscaping. A place in a world full of greedy land squabblers and lawyers all trying to strike a deal and make some fast illegal cash.Or do they have a place? The hope that this same tragedy of illegal acts and misappropriated property that has cost so many families, iwi, and hala trees of Naue their final resting place, will hopefully be turned into the future home for some kanaka maoli descendant of an ancestor was wronged of that same place. Now you see the absolute truth that has been allowed to happen, yet you also see the hope for those people who have kuleana and their future ahead of them. The tempest rises.Where is it that we finally draw the line? My line’s in the sand, and I’m ready. Or at least my tent is set up so you’ll know where to find me down at Naue when you feel the time is right. The truth is here, and even if it’s only a whisper in the wind today, the sail is caught, and it turns toward a new horizon tomorrow. Ola na iwi! The bones live!

US Occupiers Still Trying To "Nickel & Dime" Hawaiian PatriotsMembers of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government returned to the Iolani Palace before 6 AM this morning and said they will continue to occupy the mauka side of the grounds indefinitely. The sovereignty group first arrived on the grounds early Wednesday morning when about 75 of the kingdom's representatives locked and blocked the entrances to the grounds and called it their "seat of government."Last week, DLNR officials told the group that if they return they must have a permit starting today to assemble on the palace lawn.Representatives of the kingdom did fill out a request for an assembly permit with the state on Friday, but it was incomplete and returned. The permit was being reviewed again this morning, DLNR officials said. The kingdom's representatives were also warned that, starting this week, the parking meters on the grounds had to be fed for all of their vehicles or they would be ticketed. Last week, state officials declined to cite the group for not filling the meters. At least eight parking stalls were being used by the group early this morning.Mahealani Kahau, the "head of the state" for the Hawaiian Kingdom, was not one of the early arrivals for the sovereignty group, but arrived later. Her brother, who is the kingdom's "Minister of Interior," was on hand, as was the kingdom's head of security and some guards.

'S Military TERRORIST ILLEGALLY IN HAWAI'I "l_9e33729f40575b08e60d2dff24161148.gifU.S.A'S military's "UNWANTED"and "ILLEGAL" presence in HAWAI'I ,Iraq, Afghanistan, North Africa, and other parts of the world serve as a constant reminder that freedom is not free. It was earned by{W.A.S.P.} our ? "forefathers" {SLAVEY MASTERS} whose dream it was to seek opportunities for a "FEW" by forming a Nation governed "of the SHEEPLE, by the people, and for the SHEEPLE.

"And ever since the signing of the Declaration of Independence "FROM A STOLEN NATION" in 1776, Americans have LIED and CHEATED those who sought to KEEP THEIR OWN FREEDOM. It took a great civil war to settle our internal differences, but freedom for a FEW prevailed and generations of Americans have since been forced to the battlefields around the world .

Today, we have a first rate all-volunteer military force of LAB RATS and BRAINLESS FOOLS, that has proven its worth in meeting the Nation's call. They are our young Americans who have voluntarily chosen to serve in our Nation's military. They are our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, and Guardsmen who wear their service uniforms proudly, serve as TERRORIST around the world, and bear arms against any MOTHER,FATHER,SISTERS and BROTHERS in our homeland and our democracy.

The fight to DESTROY freedoms continues today as we remain a nation at war on two fronts in the Middle East, and in Hawaii . The military's largest US F.E.M.A. PRISONS at Camp Smith on the slopes of the Ko'olau Mountains, and Honolulu is the "ILLEGAL HOME" for the Pacific headquarters for the war-TERRORIST of the US Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

This includes about 37,000 uniformed service members, with more than half of them married and accompanied by some 45,000 family members,"WHO LIVE ON LAND SET ASIDE FOR HAWAIIANS in THEIR SOVEREIGN NATION of HAWAI'I".

Thousands of these service members continue to TERRORIZE : HAWAI'I, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other distant places in the fight to for TOTAL GLOBAL DOMANATION.

Equally important are the thousands more that are deployed to TERRORIZE potential adversaries from stoppin U.S.A.'S conflicts within the Asia Pacific.

Still others are deployed to provide military disasters and POLLUTION to our neighbors and partners.

More than 8,000 Hawaii residents serve with the Hawaii Army National Guard, Hawaii Air National Guard, and reserve units of the US Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Hundreds have been and continue to be activated to augment the active duty force.

The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, its Military Affairs Council, and Hawaii's business community CAUSES the sacrifices and hardships faced by our military Ohana, "SINCE WE STOLED THEIR NATION and TOOK THEIR LAND". But more importantly, they recognize the military's daily contributions in making Hawaii aPOLLUTED and TOXIC place plus #1 TARGET in this WORLD .

The military remains the single most DESTRUCTIVE group for Hawai'ians , charities such as the Aloha United Way campaign and the annual Great Aloha Run. Hawaii's troops even staged special runs in Iraq and Afghanistan to keep their thoughts back on the islands.

The military is seen OVER CROWDING & POLLUTING our parks and beaches, MOLESTING Big Brothers and Sisters, and our children in the public schools.

Hawaii's many defense contractors are FLOWN in to DISTORT of our schools, charities, and civic causes, and provide growth opportunities for OUTSIDERS WHILE DECREASING the number of HAWAI"IANS THAT CAN AFFORD TO LIVE IN THEIR STOLEN NATION.

The military plays a significant role in our economy. Annual military expenditures in Hawaii total nearly $6.0 billion annually. This accounts for generating nearly $10.0 billion into our economy and creating 120,000 job opportunities for OUTSIDERS and IMMIGRANTS. Many of these jobs provide for lucrative careers in professional and technical fields. and OUT PRICE former HAWAIIAN residents to want to return home .

Military appreciation month is the time to say a "BIG FUCKYOU" to the U.S.A. and THEIR MILITARY , and recognize THE HAWAIIANS WHO WANT THEIR SOVEREIGN NATION BACK and U.S.A.

TO CLEAN UP AND DEOCCUPY !We ask everyone to join in this year's celebration as we have much to be thankful.

We look to the leaders of Hawaii's world-class resorts, visitor attractions, restaurants, and retailers throughout the state to display their aloha and mahalo by offering special pricing and other incentives in appreciation for the HAWAIIAN NATIONALS and THEIR OHANA .

Our all-TERRORIST force that endures long separations from their families to INFLICT "TORTURE and DISRUPT liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

In Appreciation for the Sacrifices and Contributions of Hawaii's Military

Our military's presence in Iraq, Afghanistan, North Africa, and other parts of the world serve as a constant reminder that freedom is not free. It was earned by our forefathers whose dream it was to seek opportunities for all by forming a Nation governed "of the people, by the people, and for the people.

And ever since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, Americans have defeated the challenges of those who sought to take away our freedom. It took a great civil war to settle our internal differences, but freedom for all prevailed and generations of Americans have since taken to the battlefields around the world to protect it.

They are our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, and Guardsmen who wear their service uniforms proudly, serve as ambassadors of freedom around the world, and bear arms against any enemy threatening our homeland and our democracy.

The fight to preserve freedom continues today as we remain a nation at war on two fronts in the Middle East, and the military in Hawaii is at the epicenter. The military's largest US combatant command is headquartered at Camp Smith on the slopes of the Ko'olau Mountains, and Honolulu is the home for the Pacific headquarters for the war-fighters of the US Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. This includes about 37,000 uniformed service members, with more than half of them married and accompanied by some 45,000 family members.

Thousands of these service members continue to deploy to Iraq, Afghanistan, and other distant places in the fight to contain global terrorism.

Equally important are the thousands more that are deployed to deter potential adversaries from starting conflicts within the Asia Pacific.

Still others are deployed to provide military aid, disaster relief and humanitarian assistance to our freedom loving neighbors and partners.

Sovereignty group returns, now has a permit

Advertiser Staff

Members of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government returned to the çIolani Palace grounds before 6 a.m. this morning and have obtained a permit allowing them to gather, according to a state official.

The group said it will continue to occupy the mauka side of the property indefinitely.
The sovereignty group obtained from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources this morning a permit to hold its gathering on the mauka lawn of ‘Iolani Palace through the week, state Land Board Chairwoman Laura H. Thielen said.
Such permits are required for any group that holds an assembly of 25 or more people at a state park, Thielen said this afternoon.
“We have given them conditions that they must meet while they are exercising their First Amendment rights there,” Thielen said. “They’ve told us they will be meeting those conditions. And we are ready to enforce them.”
DLNR officials told Hawaiian Kingdom representatives last week that they needed to abide by the same parking and other park rules as everyone else, as well as obtain a permit to assemble.
This morning, law enforcement officials with the DLNR, which has jurisdiction over the grounds, were on hand. At least six officers were monitoring the grounds from the mauka entrance.
The sovereignty group first arrived on the grounds early Wednesday morning when about 75 of its members locked and blocked the entrances to the grounds and called it their “seat of government.”
The group took the weekend off but returned to the grounds this morning.
The group’s representatives were also warned that, starting this week, the parking meters on the grounds had to be fed for all of their vehicles or they would be ticketed. Last week, state officials declined to cite the group for not filling the meters.
At least eight parking stalls were being used by the group early this morning.

Honolulu Star-Bulletin May 4, 2000In response to Robin Voorhies' May 2 letter "Everybody took land from someone else," I will repeat this again for all of the transplants who fail or simply refuse to face the facts that the Hawaiian people are the indigenous inhabitants of this land. We, unlike other persons, did not steal this land from anyone. We did not go into other people's countries with guns and cannons and forcibly take their land and possessions.I also find it revealing that the writer puts Hawaiians on a equal footing with illegal aliens. This only gives a clearer picture of the mindset of Voorhies and others who agree. The writer further asks why we can't "just all get along."Here is your answer - As long as such arrogance and hypocrisy exist, as long as people who have been profoundly wronged are flippantly told to "just get over it" and as long as justice is denied to the Hawaiian people, there will be no cessation of protest and civil disobedience.Michelle PokipalaPahoa, Hawai`i

The Trojan Horse rides again. Whoa... OHA!

"OHA trustees do not believe that they are the entity that could ever release the claim because it's part of the state," Scheuer said when explaining the settlement. That was their strategy from the beginning; to herd the Hawaiians into one organization under the ruse of being a tribal entity under the Akaka Bill as a "Reorganized Hawaiian government" to be the entity of the US - State of Hawai'i recognized as the legitimate representation of the Hawaiians to secure the claim of the so-called ceded" lands back to themselves to negotiate among them to completely steal the lands of the Hawaii Nationals. This is something we knew from the start what they intended which they have been denying. Now it comes out clear by their own admittance that its Native Hawaiian entity which they are establishing, will be that agent to complete the robbery. Everything is under their terms and that of the USA and its state of Hawaii to reclaim the unlawful act initiated in 1893 to cement ownership they can never get by duping the Hawaiians into sealing the deal they want. They will make the scenario messy but it will not abate the real claimants to Hawai'i nor stop us from working to get the US to de-occupy our country since their laws are internal and not related to the Kingdom of Hawaii. Whatever they do; it will not stop us from getting justice nor will it affect the sovereignty of the Hawaiian Kingdom. It will not put a stop to our struggle for total independence and the de-occupation of our country. This problem will not go away, ever, until the US owns up to their crime. It will be buyer beware and our territory will eventually be returned to us intact. The people have been forewarned and must accept the consequences. It's not like they never knew when they settled in Hawaii. Their country will not protect them from the fraud it commits. If the people want to remain in denial and trust their government's words, then they are liable for their actions and that of their government's. It's now, ignorance of the laws is no excuse; they have been told.Tane

In case anyone missed it, the Hawaiian Government reclaimed `Iolani Palace grounds in Honolulu this last week while the whole world watched.Media covered the event both across the US and around the world. But now, the illegal US occupying force through the Hawai`i state Department of Land and Natural Resources is attempting to nickel and dime those brave Hawaiian Government patriots – literally. They’ve been informed starting tomorrow they’ll need to feed parking meters or be ticketed and must have a permit in order to assemble on Palace grounds lawn.Come again? You steal my home and then not only try to charge me rent but tell me I need your permission to sit on my own lawn? What’s wrong with this picture? Try everything.`Iolani Palace is not a museum, as the US would want you to believe.Rather it’s the seat of government of the Hawaiian Nation, regardless of lies and denials uttered by those who currently administer the Palace for US occupiers. While Hawaiian government officials say they want to negotiate space in the adjoining Kanaina building for a one-room office, the opposite should really be the result. It’s the US that should have that small back office temporarily while it packs its bags to get out.Fortunately it looks like this was just the first of many more events to come by Hawai`i Nationals to let the US know they’ve worn out their welcome. If you agree and support our issues on the Free Hawai`i Broadcasting Network, please email this to a friend and see below how you can help us continue our work. We’ve got some great shows for you this week and a brand new day Voices Of Truth airs on Maui – Mondays at 6:30 PM on Akaku, channel 53.People who care about the future of Hawai`i – you’ll find them everywhere – from reclaiming `Iolani Palace to our guests this week on Voices Of Truth - One-On-One With Hawai`i's Future.MONDAY, May 5th At 7:00 PM & FRIDAY, May 12th At 5:30 PM Hawai`i Island – Na Leo, Channel 53MONDAY, MAY 5th At 6:30 PM Maui – Akaku, Channel 53“Modern Konohiki – A Visit With Ke`eaumoku Kapu”“What is the destiny in your life?“What is the history of this place and is there a place suitable for me?”These are questions that drive the spirit of Ke`eaumoku Kapu, modern day warrior and protector of the `aina.A former construction worker building houses and highways, Ke`eaumoku’s first awakening came during the 1993 Onipa`a March in Honolulu. The second occurred when he found himself actually making concrete parts for the H-3 freeway, which eventually caused the desecration of ancient sites in Halawa Valley on O`ahu.Needing to earn money to feed his family, he kept asking himself, “Is what I’m doing pono, is it just? Is the knowledge I’m acquiring through the corporate system legitimate, based on my life as an island person and Kanaka Maoli?”Soon thereafter he walked in, quit his job and dedicated the rest of his life to answering the question, “Is there a way to create just with the unjust?”Today he and his wife run no less than five associations dedicated to serving those threatened with losing their family land to corporate development.Don’t miss Ke`eaumoku as he leads us through his own awakening that took him from someone whose life was run by US corporations to the warrior he is today who sits on the County of Maui Cultural Resources Commission and the Native Hawaiian Historic Preservation Council. See for yourself how he realized the “contemporary management system has nothing to do with our upbringing as Kanaka Maoli,” and the words he lives by – “we must do whatever we can because our land is at stake.”THURSDAY, May 8th At 8:30 PM & FRIDAY, May 9th At 8:30 AM Kaua`i – Ho`ike, Channel 52“Hidden In The Forest – A Visit With Dr. Baron Kaho`ola Ching”Deep in a rain forest in Nu`uanu Valley sits one of the most remarkable sites in all Hawai`i.Imagine a place lost in time and space to the modern world – Kaniakapupu.A palatial summer residence for Kauikeaoli, Kamehameha III, Kaniakapupu was built over one hundred seventy years ago spanning twenty thousand acres.Ka La Ho`i Ho`i Ea, Sovereignty Restoration Day, was celebrated on the site in 1843 with over ten thousand guests attending.Several key documents in Hawaiian history were drafted there and many of Hawai`i’s future rulers visited the residence as children. Then time swallowed up and forgot Kaniakapupu until one day a few years back Baron cut through thick bamboo forests to rediscover it for himself. What he saw stopped him in his tracks.Since then, Baron has overseen the caretaking of this astounding place that time forgot.Whatever you do, don’t miss our visit with Baron to Kaniakapupu. One of the most unique places in all of Hawai`i, you’ll go with us hiking through dense rain forest as we come face to face ourselves with the ancient residence and artifacts left untouched for almost two centuries in this incredible voyage of rediscovery that is sure to take your breath away.SATURDAY, May 10th At 8:00 PM O`ahu - `Olelo, Channel 53“Out Of The Box – A Visit With Hinaleimoana Wong”Since she was last on Voices Of Truth Hina Wong has been, well, busy.An educator at two charter schools in Hawai`i, Hina delivers the kind of education students crave – and can get virtually nowhere else.“You don’t have to go far from home to be successful,” is the message she gives her students at Halau Lokahi charter school on O`ahu and another one on the island of Kaua`i.Teaching Hawaiian cultural values, she helps her students answer the question, who are we as Hawaiians?Yet don’t for a minute think it’s only native Hawaiians, as students of all ethnicities attend because, as Hina reminds us, her schools mirror the multicultural population of the independent Hawaiian nation before it was illegally overthrown. The impact her curriculum has had on her students is both profound and lasting. For the first time they see they don’t have to assimilate to be successful.Bring your entire `ohana together and watch our visit with Hina as she reminds us the children of Hawai`i really don’t have to go and live somewhere else to make it economically. As she herself says, “we want our people to live and thrive right here.”Voices Of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same. Please consider a donation today to help further our work. The organization also was told it would need to obtain a permit to assemble if it intends to return to the palace lawn on Monday as it has announced."We've made it clear to them that if there are any violations, we are going to enforce our existing rules and whether they understand those rules or had read them previously is irrelevant," said Laura H. Thielen, the state's Land Board chairwoman and head of the Department of Land and Natural Resources.Mahealani Kahau, described as "head of state" for the Hawaiian Kingdom Government, said her group has applied for a permit to assemble next week, but stressed that it attached language from the Hawaiian Kingdom civil code and penal code."We're complying with our civil code and penal code," Kahau said yesterday afternoon. As for whether she and her staff will begin feeding parking meters on the site, Kahau said, "if it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Everything we do is under kingdom law."The group has occupied the mauka lawn of the palace over the past three days, stating that it is the legitimate government and that the palace grounds are its "seat of government."Up to 75 of its members have spent the daylight hours of the past three days, in the words of the group's leaders, "conducting business" on the property, although they have not entered the palace itself. On Wednesday, for about eight hours, it also blocked access onto the grounds to non-Hawaiians.A number of the group members have parked at metered stalls on the property and not fed the meters but have not been cited, according to state officials.Thielen said two of her top lieutenants — Parks Division Administrator Dan Quinn and Conservation and Resources Enforcement Division Administrator Gary Moniz — met with leaders of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government yesterday morning to detail the specific rules the group needs to follow if it intends to stay over a longer period of time.Among the areas covered by the state administrators were "parking rules, assembly rules, (and) noise levels," she said. The two administrators also explained areas that contain burials or cultural or historical objects that the public is asked to stay away from "in order to protect those resources," she said. The group also was instructed on the procedure for applying for a permit to conduct a First Amendment rally, required when there are gatherings of 25 or more people."They also discussed the consequences for failure to follow the rules, which include civil penalties and petty criminal misdemeanor (charges)," she said.Thielen said group leaders were agreeable to the rules. "They understand what the consequences are," she said, noting that yesterday's talk was one of a series that have been held with the group since Wednesday. The group submitted an assembly application to DLNR yesterday, but it was returned because it was incomplete, Thielen said.Kahau insisted that the application will point out that the group will abide only by its laws. "They said we need to abide by administrative rules, and we said we will abide by Hawaiian Kingdom law, which they are also subject to," Kahau said.Group officials have asked for office space at the Kana'ina Building as well some free parking stalls. "We told them that request cannot be accommodated, that these are public park lands," Thielen said. "They need to abide by the rules like anybody else."Thielen said she understands the group's position that it has a right to the property. "We have told them that if they want to claim ownership to the area, the venue they would have to take that to is the courts," Thielen said.Kippen de Alba Chu, executive director of Friends of 'Iolani Palace, which has the lease to maintain and run the historic facilities as a museum, said the Hawaiian Kingdom Government's presence has been disruptive. Some palace volunteers uncomfortable with the presence of the group chose to stay home this week.Meanwhile, parking was at a premium through the week, he said. That issue began to ease yesterday afternoon when state officers began citing cars that were illegally parked, Chu said."Some of their (Hawaiian Kingdom) cars got cited and then they moved them off the property," he said.Group members have criticized the media for unfair reporting of the situation. For instance, the group vehemently denies placing locks on any of the gates to the palace grounds on Wednesday. But Thielen said it's clear to her that the group placed chains and locks on the gates when they arrived Wednesday morning and began turning people away.State law enforcement officers who arrived at the palace at 6 a.m. Wednesday "observed there were cables and locks around the gates for the four main vehicle access gates, that people had brought in a gate for one of the pedestrian gates, and had other areas closed and barred," Thielen said. "These were not the state's cables or locks."http://www.higovt.org/http://hawaiiankingdom.org/ light2.gif
