This is the first line that the crowd repeated after learning what to say in response to the sun setting! Dr. Sam Gon III stood majestically overlooking his halau as he proceeded to educate the po'e about season changes!
Got to love Sam's smile! By far, this experience was amazing. I took my journey towards learning more about our Hawaiian culture. The setting of the sun that slowly settled beyond the horizon was beautiful. Try taking pictures as much as you can with a camera!

and where there are many screen shots with a sexual undertone between an oiwi-with-a-kiwi-accent woman LOL and a Haole man.
Same old same old sensationalized BS LOL
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9PGflvRyLk By the way tomorrow is my birthday with my identical twin sister who is four minutes older than me. Guess where I will be? At da beach that's where LOL I don't ask for gifts. I have too much stuff LOL Instead whether it be $1, $5, or $20 I ask that my family and friends donate to one of their causes instead.Or better yet if you can't afford to donate to one of your causes I ask that people show MORE KINDESS and compassion for those Hawaiians who are less fortunate than they are. That "gift" to me is FREE! Mahalo!!! Latahs!!!
Edited to add pics of veggies from my square foot vegetable gardens which are very easy to create and maintain! I have five of them so that I can grow some of my own food.
Carrots, eggplants, and tomatoes from my veggie gardens:
Cabbage and collard greens on the left with my carrots, eggplants, and tomatoes on the right (again):
Of course in Ko Hawai'i Pae Aina they try to kill us off by infiltrating the food chain with crap for food. I am in the midst of some negotiations for some land and wow... what some people will do JUST to get the land. Wow LOLHowever I am fortunate that I grow much of my own vegetables. IMHO more Hawaiians should less we all make and I am not one to have much free time since I am trying to work so hard so that I can help pay for college tuition for some less fortunate oiwi. However I make time and square foot gardening is easy. Instead of using wood for three of my raised beds I use pallet guards... the kine you see at WalMart that are made of plastic. One of them is recycled plastic and the other is made of untreated wood. There are many ways that one can grow some of their own food. Just gotta make time for it.The only time I spend on this is as follows:- Setting up growing media takes about one hour per raised bed (once)- Planting takes me about 30 minutes total (once)- Watering takes me about 10 minutes total nearly every day or every other day or so- Maintaining beds in terms of weeds takes me one hour max for all five once per weekThe lowest cost was $70 for the pallet guard plus about $50 for the growing media plus about $5 for the seeds.Das it!For nearly $1500 worth of veggies that are FRESH instead of the crappy food that they try to infiltrate and/or push onto us like McDonalds and HUGE plate lunches instead of fresh fruits and vegetables, FISH, and POI. I am amazed at how they get away with it.I should post that in one of my uka million blogs because if one other Hawaiian does it it is one less Hawaiian who will not die from complications from obesity. When I have time... I WILL.
Saturday, May 2, 2009 Honolulu AdvertiserNo Deal For State, OHA On landsBy Gordon Y. K. PangAdvertiser Staff WriterA bill that would have the state negotiating to transfer nearly 20 percent of its land inventory to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs in exchange for giving up all future claims to ceded lands appeared dead last night at the Legislature.Conferees from the House and Senate had until midnight to find an agreement on Senate Bill 995 which may end up settling, once and for all, how much OHA should receive as its share of the revenues generated from the use of ceded lands. But key House members declined to support the bill, effectively killing it.OHA and the state have long agreed that the agency is owed a portion of money generated by lands once owned by the Hawaiian monarchy and that are now part of the state's inventory. In fact, the state in recent years has paid OHA $15.1 million annually. What's been in dispute is how much OHA should receive, and should have received over the past three decades. But what really had people raising eyebrows was a new wrinkle in the plan that allows OHA the option of settling all ceded land issues involving OHA. The proposal was introduced by Sen. Clayton Hee, D-23rd (Kane'ohe, Kahuku), chairman of the Senate Water, Land, Agriculture and Hawaiian Affairs.By offering OHA $251 million in cash and 20 percent of the 1.8 million acres of ceded lands to be determined in negotiations between the agency and the Lingle administration, OHA would need to agree to no longer make any claims to "income or proceeds of any kind or nature whatsoever" stemming from ceded lands. It would also no longer receive $15.1 million annually. While those in favor of a larger settlement see it as a way of resolving the ceded land dispute with the state once and for all, opponents say it is not enough to resolve the so-called "global" issue of the overthrow and worry that it could extinguish any of their claims.Hee said such a settlement would make it difficult for OHA to "assert other entitlements" but he does not think it would stop others from filing claims if they wished."This doesn't preclude or prevent others from asserting their rights to other issues," Hee said. The full houses of the House and Senate would still need to have approved House Bill 995. The bill would allow OHA the option to accept either a settlement to resolve revenues from past years only, or a broader package for both past and future revenues. OHA would have until Jan. 1, 2010, just before the state of next year's legislative session, to decide if it wants either option, or neither. The past-revenue-only settlement option would allow OHA to accept a $200 million package of cash and/or land, with the properties expected to include lands in Kaka'ako Makai, Kahana Valley, La Mariana and Pier 60 at Sand Island, the He'eia Meadlowlands, the upper reaches of Mauna Kea, Waikiki Yacht Club, state-owned fishponds, the Ala Wai Boat Harbor and Kalaeloa Makai. OHA would still receive $15.1 million annually until the future revenues issue is resolved.Rep. Mele Carroll, D-13th (E. Maui, Moloka'i, Lana'i), chairwoman of the House Hawaiian Affairs Committee, said yesterday afternoon while she was supporting the plan, she was trying to get key colleagues to agree.OHA's board members discussed the bill at its board meeting on Thursday, but chose not to formally approve it. However, according to administrator Clyde Namu'o, attorney William Meheula was asked to make suggestions to lawmakers on how to make the language more palatable.LONG LIVE THE HAWAIIAN KINGDOM, o Pomai

Pono and I attended a brief session this morning which we later found out it will be tonight at 10 p.m. in Room 309. I don't know to much about this time of the night, but it seems the politicians will be making decisions while you are sleeping, eating, watching t.v. or partying!Schedule another time? Hmmm....
Wow, we exited the Capitol faster than we got there! Pono and I went to the Capitol to hear what Clayton Hee had to say along with Livi. To my surprise, there was no parking, but finally found one near Iolani Palace. On our way out of the Capitol, we saw a charter school there. The charter school was making a presentation to the legislature for funding. I was for happy for them. Sometimes it hard to tell children that monies are being slashed and they are ones who are affected. Why do Hawaiians got to "beg" for monies from the FAKE STATE OF HAWAII every year!I encouraged them to persist and mention how education has helped them. They want to continue to college, they must pursue regardless of challenges! Say it from it from the heart because it comes from within.

For my family and friends who going spock this out:Preface: Kalani recently wrote about how some people are translating documents written in olelo oiwi when they do not have a knowledge and/or fluency in olelo oiwi:http://www.maoliworld.com/profiles/blogs/some-hints-on-doing-hawaiianOne thing that is bad style is to translate something that one does not understand. Unfortunately like he pointed out... it happens. For me I ONLY comment on things that I KNOW about which include but is not limited to math, title, and land. Das it! It's not good practice to translate what one does not know.In any case I know about politics (LOL)... title, and land just to name a few. However you will NEVER see me translate documents written in olelo oiwi and try to pass myself off as a "researcher." A researcher who researches documents written in OLELO OIWI and TRANSLATES OLELO OIWI... yet does not KNOW olelo oiwi is only lessening the LEGITIMACY and INTEGRITY of everything and EVERYONE who has worked on what they have been working on for the last 200 YEARS or so.For example with the Princess Ruta ordeal.I can understand if people feel hurt that Ruta was chosen based on her LINEAGE. It's like one child being chosen while the other was not to inherit title. However an inherent problem is when a so-called "researcher" uses documents written in OLELO OIWI and translates them when they do not speak or KNOW HAWAIIAN.A person of CLASS would accept their fate out of respect for their kupuna. Instead some people are translating documents written in OLELO OIWI when they do not UNDERSTAND and are not FLUENT in olelo oiwi. During the process they are dissing the following types of people:- Hawaiians at UH-Manoa and at UH-Hilo due to pilau words like "textbook Hawaiian"- Everyone whether ali'i or makaainana who has some connection with the Kamehameha Schools because other ali'i whom I KNOW do not appreciate their relatives being dissedWORSE is that some of these people who diss do not understand olelo oiwi yet translate documents that were written in olelo oiwi and make ANY KINE.With all of that stated LOL... I understand politics, title, and land even though they are diametrically opposed to EVERYTHING that I believe in. In fact I amaze myself being able to understand and how during the middle of my current negotiation I have managed to translate thousands of pages in English into a few sentences LOLHere is my translation of how senators voted on S.Amdt. 1014 to S. 896 (Helping Families Save Their Homes Act of 2009) :In my work I see lots of families who cannot afford to pay their mortgage. Sometimes to no fault of their own.Well on April 30, 2009 the U.S. Senate rejected this amendment. The Senate roll call is as follows:http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=1&vote=00174This is an article that was posted at MSNBC.com:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30503750/Note a few things:1. Akaka and Inouye voted FOR it... which is good.2. In the local and national B.S. media they are trying to portray President Messiah Obama as the "good" guy while trying to portray the politicians as the "bad" guy trying to deflect blame on a party that is also responsible. This is typical in MENTAL WARFARE LOLWhat did this do?It removed about 15,000,000 homeowners from the retail, real estate, education, travel, AND consumer markets. Again, Congress AND President Messiah Obama are creating more of a mess for our typical homeowners (i.e. the middle class whether Hawaiian or American... CALL IT WHAT YOU LIKE.)This also rewarding BANKS for THEIR mortgage mess by denying consumers the ability to move, sell, move up, move away, sell their property, or do much of anything except pay about 50% or more of their monthly gross and/or net income to their mortgage company. Obviously Congress and President Messih Obama are SO quick to bail out corporations yet not help bail out PEOPLE who NEED and/or WANT help.Congress AND President Messiah Obama are responsible and should be held for their decisions and actions. (I realize that some Hawaiians have already renounced their American citizenship so when I state "our country" it only applies to those like me who choose to maintain both!) Our country is getting in MORE debt which will be passed on to your great grandchildren. THIS is NOT good. Whether we like it or not... whether we realize this or not... it affects HAWAIIANS and NOT in a good way.How does this affect Hawaiians? Instead of holding Congress and President Messiah Obama accountable for THEIR decisions and actions some people will continue to BLAME Hawaiians and make them scapegoats for EVERYTHING that is going wrong. You watch!Like with the Akaka Bill which they try to use to play mind games but it is really the Native Hawaiian LAND RE-Organization Act. Some people are quick to BLAME... but instead of blaming the TRUE culprits like Congress AND President Messiah Obama for this clusterf*ck knowing that Hawaiians and/or their legal heirs do NOT agree and did NOT SIGN... they blame HAWAIIANS.Some of you folks have asked me what does it matter to ME? Why do I state that? Why do I think this way???? LOLIt should be obvious LOL If and when people blame HAWAIIANS they are also blaming HAWAIIAN CHILDREN in the process though covertly. THAT is why LOLLatahs!!!
Maui News - March 1, 2009...a Kahului resident, whose great-great-grandfather helped draft 1839 documents of the Hawaiian kingdom, said he opposes the Akaka Bill "mind, body and soul.""The Akaka Bill is a race-based bill," said Foster Ampong, an advocate for Hawaiian independence. "Because you're talking about Native Hawaiians, as defined by law - 50 percent or greater Hawaiian blood."Ampong said the Akaka Bill does not address the most critical legal issue for Hawaiians - nationhood."The Akaka Bill is another attempt at creating a fraud or appearance that the Hawaiian Islands and people were acquired by the US lawfully - and in essence and in fact it wasn't," he said."For me, it's my passion. It's what I really, sincerely believe - We are Hawaiian nationals, not just Native Hawaiians by blood or ethnicity. . . . We have our very own bill of rights that formed our lahui, our nation," Ampong said.Likewise, another Akaka Bill opponent points out that the kingdom of Hawaii had a relationship as a co-equal with "England, France, Russia, Belgium, Netherlands, all the powers of the world."Kaleikoa Ka`eo, Hawaiian studies instructor at Maui Community College, said of the Akaka Bill - "I am actively involved to organize against its passage" because the bill would diminish Hawai`i's international standing, making it "go to the back of the line" and give up a status it already had."It's like saying you attained citizenship - and now you give yourselves the right to attain a green card as an alien," he said. For Ka`eo, a major issue "is that the so-called Akaka Bill provides no land, not one acre of land, and no access to water - that's not really self-determination," he said....Read more…

What a memorable experience this was!!! I had made a new friend who took a "Producer" class with me at 'Olelo and her name is Dee. Dee invited me to this presentation to video tape Dr. Benjamin Young. Well, Dr. Young was the honored guest. Dr. Young did a wonderful presentation on Hospitals in Hawaii and many was formed since the arrival of missionaries. Dr. Young noted various women in Hawaiian (eg. Queen Kapiolani, etc.) history who contributed to forming medical clinics and hospitals in Hawaii to provide medical care to Hawaiians .Standing room only by the end of the presentation. I must admit, his mana'o substantiate many reason why health statistics of kanaka maoli have deteriorated. By far, Dr. Young has noted that we faced many challenges when examining historical facts (diseases, TB, small pox, etc), however we must care for ourselves!!! As I examine my dissertation, his mana'o gave it more "substance."Mahalo for Dee for inviting me and Dr. Young for his presentation! I thank my two youngest daughters for their support. They are my "TWINKLE LITTLE STARS!"
Music was played by different bands at Pearl City McDonalds. I attended the event and was very pleased with the music by young teens. Mahalo to McDonalds for accommodating all bands!
When I filmed the PSA, they had their instruments. At this event, they had music played and sang their songs! MAMAZ BOIZ "rocked the house!" Rebel Souljahz, William Su'a, older brother of Bayne Su'a sat across as his brother sang!!! (second from left)
Other pics!
THIS BAND HAS DONE NUMEROUS PSA (PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS) encouraging community to recycle and driving safely on the roads to name a few!!!A mixture of local flavors and Polynesian harmonies makes this band a MUST SEE!!!! Many members attribute their musical talents because of being "active in church."

I don't know about why anyone would settle for 200 million owed to OHA! That is a ridiculous amount and HEWA for Mr. Hee ever to suggest to Mele Caroll, "take it or leave." I shook my head side to side! I wouldn't settle for that amount. They owe KANAKA MAOLI more monies all these years they didn't pay yet!If a Hawaiian did that and dragged it for thirty years or so, guess what they going "chain you too!"I have to give Mele Carroll a "hands up." Mele is more sensitive about the issues that impact kanaka maoli. I've heard her in hearings and ask good questions, make clarifications and answers questions. It is a difficult task, but what is it about her that "sparks an interest." Perhaps her attitude and the way she upholds herself pressured by all sides.
Other pics!
Gee, what is next?

Mainly doing a graphical chart. Sometimes people create their own method, or own tree, which is fine, but then the last thing you want to do is create a chart that causes too much confusion. Something plain and simple will suffice. Not so complex.Another thing that would help. LEARN THE LANGUAGE! But even if you don't, and know the basics, there is a pattern to how Hawaiian genealogies were written, basically naming the person whose genealogy is stated, and then going up on one particular line, sometimes while going up that line, they mention a particular person who may have been well known more than others. In any case, here's an example.Taken from Ka Nupepa Kuokoa, Vol. 6, No. 40, 10/5/1867. It says:O Kahekili ke keiki alii, a ua kiekie no kona mau makua. It talks about Kahekili, an alii child and states his parents lofty genealogy if you want to put it that way.O Kahekili ke keiki a Nueku Kalola, ke kaikamahine a Kapaaakiha, a laua o Kalaniulumoku.......Kahekili, child of Nueku Kalola, the daughter of Kapaaakiha and Kalaniulumoku. It continues on to say who Kalaniulumoku was....keiki a Alapaiwahine, me Kalanihelemaiiluna, ke keiki a Kamehameha Nui. which continues by saying that (Kalaniulumoku) was a child of Alapawahine and Kalanihelemaiiluna, the son of Kamehamehanui. Now Kamehamehanui was the son of Kekaulike, an older brother to Kahekili who fought against Kalaniopuu and later Kamehameha I, and Kamehamehanui was also the brother of Kalola(pupukaohonokawailani), all of whom were children of Kekaulike and his wife Kekuiapoiwanui.Just an FYI, Kalanihelemaiiluna had another son aside from Kalaniulumoku. With his wife Kawao, he had Paki, the father of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop.Ok, so we continue with the father of Kahekili.O Luluhiwalani ka makuakane, ke keiki a Pualinui, ke kaikamahine a Kamakolunuiokalani me Kalaniopuu. This line says that Luluhiwalani is the father (of Kahekili), and Luluhiwalani was the son of Pualinui, who was a daughter of Kamakolunuiokalani and her husband the chief Kalaniopuu. Then the following continues with the maternal line.O Keoua ka makuakane o Luluhiwalani, ke keiki a Kahililalahau me Kekuamanoha, ke keiki a Kekaulike. This says that Keoua was the father of Luluhiwalani, and that Keoua was teh son of Kahililalahau and Kekuamanoha, and Kekuamanoha was the son of Kekaulike whom I mentioned previously as being the father of Kamehamehanui, Kalola and Kahekili.Further down it mentions S. M. Kamakau, so we're aware of the source. No piracies there unless someone has an explanation. So if I were to give a graphical representation of the above, this is how it would look like. To help lessen the confusion, I italicized all females.A graphical tree like that is plain and simple and easy to understand, unlike how some people may try to confuse others by indicating = or == and in the legend claim it means a marriage when they also use it to divide a generation, and even more confusing by using a | claiming a direct descent yet they also use the word "children" or "child". So basically either "child" or | is used. Very confusing, or the person who designed the tree is trying to hide things, if not create ancestors.A chart is merely to a means to make words that you would normally read more comprehensible. So focus, and think about what your goal is. If you throw in "siblings" and don't list them or list a few and show nothing below them, you're only causing confusion. Also, limit naming additional things, such as "hanai" or extra spouses, or worse, step-spouses that didn't have any issues, unless it's important to show them. Again, the more simple it is, the easier it is to comprehend. If you must add additional comments, put them away, and put them in some type of dialogue box and with an arrow point to that particular ancestor or that box. You could do that, for example, if one ancestor was a kahu.Another common mistake people make, adding surnames to ancestors who never even had surnames. Surnames didn't become more of a common practice for Hawaiians until after 1861. So stop adding them, if possible, list that ancestor's name as the name they were known as. No need to impress anyone by adding on additional names that they never went by.And because of the lack of surnames. Do not get confused by one Hawaiian name and assume that it is the same person throughout time. The only way to accurately get the correct person whose identity may be questionable because they seem to be the same as another person with the same name, is to see who their parents were, and if siblings were available, who they were, just to verify that person is that person and not someone else with the same name.
