It would seem that OHA ought to be supportive of this proposedresolution - as it would receive moneys from positive actions that maycome about as a result of this resolution - even for potential valuesthat may result from its share of "viewing time in lieu of rent."

I was one of the "sponsors" of this proposed resolution.
_________

The following email is one person's reaction to the meeting and publichearing of the Board of Land and Natural Resources that took place onThursday, March 25, in Hilo.

It was interesting - of the 4 Subplans that were being addressed tobecome part of the Comprehensive Management Plan for Mauna Kea approvedlast year - that contained many mistakes, inconsistencies, etc., theBoard, without any modification, approved it all.

The process was a real sham. The Chair, Laura Thielen, after viewing thelist of those who wished to testify (which included those who were onlyattending), declared that, because of the length of the list, that eachtestifier would have 2 minutes to speak.

Of course, things were already unfair - as most of those who supportedthe proposed Subplans only wanted to say that they were in support -which could take a mere 30 seconds or less, while we who had substantialcomments were bogged down.

As for me - in the 2 minutes I had, I didn't even get through the tophalf of the first page of my testimony before I was cut off.

Then, ironically, because the list included those who ONLY signed up asattendees - the many names of those called were passed over because theyweren't around and didn't intend to speak.

The hearing was then cut off - with no one allowed to finish theirtestimonies that were cut off because of the grossly inflated numbersthat the Chair had considered in deciding on the time allowed for eachtestifier.

That the proposed documents contained major mistakes, errors, etc., andis about the sloppiest work I have ever seen, the Board after asking afew questions - approved the proposed Subplans - without any amendments, corrections or other considerations - as submitted.

So - our only remedy is to ask for a contested case hearing, thenprepare for the usual appeals that the law allows. This - we will do.

Hawaiian culture and society are centuries old, going through many transformations over time.

For its first thousand years, Hawai`i was a thriving and highly advanced communal society.

Many of those ancient ways are still practiced today, including the healing arts.

Technique and know how were handed down orally, over centuries, to present day practitioners, who know they are responsible for not only the well-being of people, but also the nation itself.

That’s why Elithe Manuha`aipo Kahn takes her healing practice seriously. So much so in fact today she employs those very methods used in pre-Tahitian Hawai`i – prior to 1100 AD.

See for yourself this week as we feature Elithe and her ancient knowledge on Hawai`i’s award winning Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

“Healing The Nation – A Visit With Elithe Manuha`aipo Kahn”

What if there were two Hawai`i’s instead of one? Not just one that led to the present day Hawai`i, but also an ancient and completely different society before that. What was it like? Elithe Manuha`aipo Kahn tells us the spellbinding story of that long ago ancient place, its powers to heal and how she uses them in healing our nation today - Watch It Here

HAWAI`I GOVERNOR OPPOSES AKAKA BILL

Honolulu Advertiser - March 25, 2010

Gov. Linda Lingle is stepping up her campaign against the current version of the Akaka bill, writing letters to all U.S. senators urging them to reject the measure.

Lingle was a staunch supporter of earlier forms of the Akaka bill, which would establish a process to create a federally recognized government entity representing the interests of Native Hawaiians. But yesterday she said the language in the latest draft "inevitably sets the Native Hawaiian governing entity and the state of Hawai`i on a jurisdictional collision course...."

Native Hawaiians, Army Sign Covenant

Agreement Aims For Better Relations

POSTED: 4:05 pm HST March 24,
2010
UPDATED: 9:35 am HST March 25, 2010
U.S. Army officials signed a covenant with Native Hawaiians
Wednesay, which they hope will bring greater understanding, more
dialogue, and better relations. A ceremony for the covenant signing was
held on the lawn at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki. It's an attempt by the U.
S. Army to mend fences with the Native Hawaiian community.
(This was a" Media opt" to promote military in hawai'i and to continue bombing in Hawai'i, also to counter the kanaka maoli that have never given up their sovereign rights to our "illegally occupied Sovereign Nation and Kingdom of Hawai'i)

ManyNative Hawaiians blame the Army for its role in the overthrow of their
kingdom, and with modern issues like the live fire training at Makua
Valley, the relationship between Native Hawaiians and the military has
been contentious.
( If it was not for the help of the USA military, the kingdom would still be in the control of the rightful rulers! The statement above voids USA as their part of continuing the wrongful and illegal acts and their MILITARY that is Destroying our AINA.)

“The relationship between Native Hawaiians andthe military becomes increasingly hostile as the years progress. Enough
already. It's time for us to learn to work on building bridges instead
of blowing them up,” said Hawaiian activist Annelle Amaral.
( Hostile ? For demanding justice for our Nation from being illegally occupied, having our culture prostituted, erased and rewritten. This so-called "Hawaiian activist" has help the military countless times to sellout our nation and AINA; for which I agree, enough already!)

Thecovenant promises a mutually respectful attitude, more dialogue, and
preservation of culturally sensitive areas.
( This so called "Covenant" isnʻt worth the toilet paper it was written on and has as much meaning for them as the apology bill of 1993 NONE! ALL of OUR AINA IS A CULTURALLY SENSITIVE AREA , "If they understood the kanaka maoli way of thinking". Ua mau ke ea o ka ʻaina i ka pono; The perpetual sovereignty of the land is righteous.)

“We are creating avisitors center at the Makua military reservation which will provide a
location to describe the history of the valley and the rare cultural
artifacts, and plants located in that beautiful valley,” said Maj. Gen.
Michael Terry.
( What they are creating is a smoke and mirror trick to sell the public on THEIR agenda to continue bombing our AINA , while DESTROYING, EXPOSING and DESECRATING OUR IWI "GRAVES" AND SACRED SITES.)

As Hawaiian and military leaders signed thecovenant the Hawaiians at the ceremony made it clear they don't
represent all Native Hawaiians.
( Eo, so true, they only recognize the ones they can brainwash, manipulate, or those that have personal ulterior motives.)

They did stress the importance of goodrelations with the Army.
( Duh, of course, they donʻt want anymore attention to the truth of them belligerently occupying and usurping OUR SOVEREIGN NATION.)

“To respect the importance of hostculture needs and values, while also recognizing the contribution the
military presence makes in assuring our security and freedom,” said
Neil Hannahs, a Native Hawaiian Advisory Council member.

(Itʻs amazing what the Stockholme Syndrome can produce as exampled by "Nil" Hannahsʻ declaration. If they respected Hawaiʻi, they would de-occupy, make restitution and reparations for all the hewa they have inflicted on the Hawaiʻi nationals and their ʻaina. The USA militaryʻs presence has only put a friendly, neutral nation in HARMʻS WAY as it continues its WASP racist Manifest Destiny archaic doctrines with the mimicry of "...security and freedom" as a vacuous hype. The comment to Hannahs and his ilk that comes to mind is, "Sit UBU sit!".)

AKAKA BILL OFFERS RECONCILIATION NOT REMEDY

AKAKA BILL OFFERS RECONCILIATION NOT REMEDYMaui News - March 23, 2010The March 14 Viewpoint writer is correct, the purpose of the Akaka Bill is reconciliation. Reconciliation is defined as the renewal of amicable relations between two persons who have been at enmity or variance; usually implying forgiveness of injuries on one or both sides. The Akaka Bill, however, has nothing to do with reparation or restitution - defined as payment for an injury or damage; redress for a wrong done and an equitable remedy under which a person is restored to his or her original position prior to loss or injury. The only egregious mistake the U.S. made was that it never ratified the treaty annexing Hawai`i. This mistake is the cause of the "special relationship between the US and Native Hawaiians," the reason the Akaka Bill is necessary for the U.S. Had there been an annexation treaty in 1898, there would be no such thing as Native Hawaiians. They would have been assimilated as Americans. What the Akaka Bill does not offer is remedy, defined as the means by which a right is enforced or the violation of a right is prevented, redressed or compensated. In plain terms, Congress wants Native Hawaiians to forgive the US for taking away their country with no promise of repairing the damage or restoring anything. The Viewpoint writer writes "others accuse Hawaiians of being racists; or as traitors and idiots for not demanding the whole pie." Maybe he knows something he's not sharing with the rest of us.
