It is blasphamy that the US named the submarine which destroys like...the USS HAWAII...as our word has no violence in it. My father was a architectural engineer. What's that? He designed submarines at Pearl Harbor/Design Division. He was a graduate of Anapolis. One day he came home, sat us down, and said,"I won't go to work one more day and support the US war machine that kills innocent people all over the world!" He QUIT! My Mother was worried as we had many bills to pay, but he refused to return. He even said NO to his pension...as that was also "part of the destructive machine". If my Dad could show his resistance and paid the price...so can all of us. We need to say NO. NO to Cliff Carpernter's comment that..."We're thankful that the USS Hawaii is here to protect us." Frankly...the only protection we need is FROM THEM!!!--------------------------Friday, July 24, 2009USS Hawaii submarine arrives at new home port of Pearl HarborFirst Virginia-class sub in Isles greeted by crew's families, as well as state and Navy officialsBy William ColeAdvertiser Military WriterPEARL HARBOR — A state with a warrior tradition yesterday welcomed a 21st-century combatant to its shores: the Virginia-class submarine USS Hawai'i.The state's new namesake submarine, a $2.5 billion technological marvel, was greeted accordingly when it pulled up to Pier Sierra 9 just after 10 a.m. to a reception of about 90 crew family members and more than 100 other invited guests. The Kamehameha Alumni Glee Club performed a pierside chant and war song that had been sung by the warriors of King Kamehameha I as they prepared to go to battle in Waimea on the Big Island."We're thankful (the Hawai'i) is here to protect our nation," club member Clif Carpenter told the audience. Also on display was the human side of the separation that comes from being at sea — in this case, the voyage from Groton, Conn., to Pearl Harbor.A cheer rang out as the 377-foot black submarine came close to the pier with about 24 sailors standing at attention on the mostly submerged hull. About four command members looked on from the sail."Hi, Daddy!" shouted one small child as the sailors smiled back. There also was a a fly-over by three F-15 fighters, a performance by young hula dancers, and a blessing and haka with koa spears.Rear Adm. Douglas McAneny, who commands the U.S. Pacific Fleet submarine force, said it's been 30 years since Pearl Harbor has been home to a new class of submarine. Hawai'i is the first Virginia-class submarine to be based in the Pacific."USS Hawai'i is not just a good-looking boat with a great name," McAneny said. "It is exactly the submarine we need to face the challenges in the Pacific well into the 21st century."Commissioned on May 5, 2007, Hawai'i was the third Virginia-class attack submarine built. The sub and its 120-man crew left Connecticut in May and stopped in Florida and Georgia before passing through the Panama Canal. The sub arrived off Diamond Head yesterday morning.Gov. Linda Lingle, the sub's "sponsor," went out by boat to greet the lei-draped Hawai'i as it came through the Pearl Harbor channel, and spent a few minutes aboard shaking hands with crew. The ship follows in a tradition of submarines with Hawai'i-related names. Preceding the USS Hawai'i were the ballistic missile sub Kamehameha, and Los Angeles-class sub Honolulu.Hawai'i is just the first of a succession of Virginia-class subs headed for Pearl Harbor. The Texas, North Carolina and California also will be home-ported here, officials said. Sixteen Los Angeles-class submarines already are based in Hawai'i.Chrystal Robinson was reunited on the pier with her husband, Machinist Mate 3rd Class Eric Robinson, 22, after last seeing him in May.Robert Darrin, who helps with navigation and also is 22, said the technology on the Hawai'i is "just amazing.""There's a lot to see down the road," Darrin said. "I'm not sure what the (Pacific) has in store for us. I'm sure a lot of exciting things."Much of the submarine forces' missions are clandestine. But some of the ship's features were shown to visitors by crew, including a topside lockout chamber that can hold 18 SEAL commandos.Gone is the hull-penetrating periscope and viewing tradition known as "dancing with the one-eyed lady." "Photonics masts" now provide the view, with cameras operated by joystick. With the removal of the periscope, the ship's control room was moved down one deck, creating more room. Modularity in the way up to 24 4,000-pound torpedoes or Tomahawk missiles are stored has freed up space for dozens of commandos. At a crew reception, Hawai'i skipper Cmdr. Ed Herrington said he felt like a "rock star" with all the attention his crew received.Lingle welcomed the crew as part of Hawai'i's 'ohana. She also acknowledged that some in the state oppose the military's presence but added that "on balance, there's overwhelming support in the state — we're very proud Americans here in Hawai'i."

I saw on the news last night that they are ASKING for volunteers to "test" the flu shot vaccine! IT'S HERE!Read the following article...and you will see the dangers. The choice is YOURS.-------------------------------------URL of this article: www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=14453Global Research, July 20, 2009The US Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, has just signed a decree granting vaccine makers total legal immunity from any lawsuits that result from any new “Swine Flu” vaccine. Moreover, the $7 billion US Government fast-track program to rush vaccines onto the market in time for the Autumn flu season is being done without even normal safety testing. Is there another agenda at work in the official WHO hysteria campaign to declare so-called H1N1 virus—which has yet to be rigorously scientifically isolated, characterized and photographed with an electron microscope—the scientifically accepted procedure—a global “pandemic” threat? The current official panic campaign over alleged Swine Flu danger is rapidly taking on the dimensions of a George Orwell science fiction novel. The document signed by Sebelius grants immunity to those making a swine flu vaccine, under the provisions of a 2006 law for public health emergencies. Not so sage SAGEThat is once the WHO in Geneva, on recommendation of the WHO's Strategic Advisory Group on Immunizations, declared H1N1 to be Phase 6 or Pandemic, automatic emergency health response programs could be activated even in countries such as Germany where reported outbreaks of even “suspected” H1N1 can be counted to date on the fingers of slightly more than one hand. The WHO's SAGE is also worth scrutiny. Its Chairman since 2005 has been the UK Director of Immunization at the British Department of Health, Dr David Salisbury. In the 1980's Salisbury reportedly drew major fire for backing a massive vaccination of children with a multiple MMR vaccine manufactured by the predecessor company of GlaxoSmithKline. That vaccine was pulled off the market in Japan after significant numbers of children developed adverse reactions to the vaccine and the Japanese government was forced to pay significant compensation to the victims. In Sweden the MMR vaccine of GlaxoSmithKline was removed after scientists linked it to outbreaks of Crohn's disease. Apparently that had little impact on WHO SAGE chairman Salisbury .According to one independent UK investigator, Alan Golding, who obtained Freedom of Information documents on the case, in “1986 Trivirix, an MMR compound containing the Mumps Urabe strain AM-9, was introduced in Canada to replace MMR I. Concerns regarding the introduction of MMR in the UK are recorded in the minutes of the Joint Working Party of the British Paediatric Association and the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) Liaison Group on June 26th of that year. Such concerns were soon to prove well grounded, as reports began to come in of an increased incidence of aseptic meningitis in vaccinated individuals. Ultimately, all MMR vaccines containing the Urabe strain of mumps were withdrawn in Canada in early 1988. This was before Urabe containing vaccines were licenced by the Department of Health for use in the UK ...”The report adds, “Smith-Kline—French, the pharmaceutical company who became Smith-Kline-Beecham and were involved in UK manufacture at that time, were concerned about these safety issues and were reluctant to obtain a UK license for their Urabe-containing vaccines. As a result of their ‘concern' that children might be seriously damaged by one of their products, they requested that the UK government indemnify them against possible legal action that might be taken as a result of ‘losses' associated with the vaccine, which by then was known to carry significant risk to health. The UK government, advised by Professor Salisbury and representatives from the Department of Health, in it's enthusiasm to get a cheap MMR onto the market, agreed to this request.”Today the same Dr Salisbury is advocating global proliferation of untested H1N1 vaccines, also manufactured by the same firm, now called GlaxoSmithKline. The last phoney Swine Flu DisasterThe last time the US Government faced a new swine flu virus was in 1976. Thousands filed claims contending they suffered side effects from the shots. This time, the government has taken steps to prevent any possible legal remedy should thousands of US citizens suffer severe complications as a result of being given untested vaccines. In 1976 President Gerald Ford, facing a difficult re-election campaign, was advised by the head of the CDC, David Sencer, to launch a mass national vaccination. As today with H1N1 Swine Flu, Sencer also used the scare of the alleged 1918 flu pandemic. Notably, some scientific researchers maintain that the deaths during the flu wave of 1918-1919, in the aftermath of the ghastly First World War, came not from any virus but from the governmental campaigns of mass vaccination against “Spanish Flu.” Interestingly, the Rockefeller University and Foundation was in the middle of that event as well.Cases of what was then called swine flu were found in soldiers at Fort Dix , N.J. in 1976, including one death. That death, whose true cause is in dispute as the soldier, sick with influenza was put on a forced march despite and fell dead, was used by Sencer to convince Ford to launch one of the most infamous public health fiascos in US history, forcing Sencer's resignation as CDC head. Federal officials vaccinated 40 million Americans during a national campaign. A pandemic never materialized, but thousands who got the shots filed injury claims, as they contracted a paralyzing condition called Guillain-Barre Syndrome or other side effects. At least 25 people died after receiving the vaccine died and 500 developed Guillain-Barre syndrome, an inflammation of the nervous system which can cause paralysis and be fatal. The US Government was forced to pay damages after vaccination victims made it a national scandal. In the end the 1976 Swine Flu vaccine proved far worse than the disease.Sencer was fired in 1977 for the fiasco but by then the damage had already been done.No Safety Test? Don't worry, be happy...The story gets worse. Now that the Obama Administration has signed a document of immunity from legal prosecution, the FDA in the United States and UK health authorities have decided to let Big Pharma put vaccine products onto the market before any tests of the possible harmful side effects of the vaccines are even known. The first doses of swine flu vaccine will be given to the public before full data on its safety and effectiveness become available. The untested “pandemic” vaccines will be spread over two doses in a higher quantity, and one brand reportedly will contain a chemical additive, an adjuvant, to make it “go further,” dramatically potentially increasing the risk of side-effects.Children will be among those first in line for the shots and may get the vaccine more than a month before trial results are received. In the UK the government's National Health Service, NHS, has been ordered to plan for a worst-case scenario in which swine flu might cause 65,000 deaths over the coming winter, including several thousand deaths among children. The British Government has placed advance orders for 132 million doses of vaccine with two manufacturers, GlaxoSmithKline and Baxter, who have licensed “in advance” three "core" vaccines in preparation for a pandemic, conveniently enough even though we are told by WHO and epidemiologists that we cannot prepare in advance for what could be a more ominous mutation of the currently very mild H1N1 problem.Curiously enough, a full year before any reported case of the current alleged H1N1, the major pharmaceutical company, Baxter, filed for a patent for H1N1 vaccine: Baxter Vaccine Patent Application US 2009/0060950 A1. Their application states, “the composition or vaccine comprises more than one antigen.....such as influenza A and influenza B in particular selected from of one or more of the human H1N1, H2N2, H3N2, H5N1, H7N7, H1N2, H9N2, H7N2, H7N3, H10N7 subtypes, of the pig flu H1N1, H1N2, H3N1 and H3N2 subtypes, of the dog or horse flu H7N7, H3N8 subtypes or of the avian H5N1, H7N2, H1N7, H7N3, H13N6, H5N9, H11N6, H3N8, H9N2, H5N2, H4N8, H10N7, H2N2, H8N4, H14N5, H6N5, H12N5 subtypes."The application further states, “Suitable adjuvants can be selected from mineral gels, aluminium hydroxide, surface active substances, lysolecithin, pluronic polyols, polyanions or oil emulsions such as water in oil or oil in water, or a combination thereof. Of course the selection of the adjuvant depends on the intended use. E.g. toxicity may depend on the destined subject organism and can vary from no toxicity to high toxicity."With no legal liability, could it be that Baxter is preparing to sell hundreds of millions of doses containing highly toxic aluminium hydroxide as adjuvant? Perhaps it is time to demand that all leading officials of WHO, SAGE and CDC, the US Obama Administration, Cabinet officials and members of Congress who voted the $7 billion H1N1 emergency funds and who have gone along with the declaration of pharmaceutical company immunity from subsequent prosecution for damage from their products. The same should apply as well for other national health bodies demanding its citizens take the H1N1 vaccine from GlaxoSmithKline or Baxter to see if it is really safe. And WHO stopped even tracking H1N1Another indication that the world is being taken for colossal suckers in the entire WHO Swine Flu scare scenario, the WHO itself, the world body entrusted to monitor outbreaks of so-called pandemics or even epidemics worldwide, has just decided to stop tracking Swine Flu or H1N1 Influenza A as they prefer to name it now, so as not to offend Smithfield Foods and other industrialized pig CAFO producers. The World Health Organization in a “briefing note” posted on their Web site posted the baffling notice that they would no longer track outbreaks of H1N1. The last WHO update, issued July 6, showed 94,512 confirmed cases in 122 countries, with 429 deaths. The WHO apparently claims that the numbers of laboratory-confirmed cases were actually meaningless. The briefing note said countries would still be asked to report their first few confirmed cases. It also said countries should watch for clusters of fatalities, which could indicate the virus had mutated to a more lethal form. Other “signals to be vigilant for,” it said, were spikes in school absenteeism and surges in hospital visits. The Atlanta CDC has also agreed to the WHO count drop. Dr. Michael T. Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, admits that the existing tests to confirm H1N1 Influenza A are not even certain, but rather hit-or-miss. “Bad measures can be worse than no measures at all,” he stated. So the WHO has decided to drop tests that anyway did not give a scientific picture of who had H1N1 or not, and as well they have decided to drop counting any test results or cases of H1n1 around the world with the comment that “we can assume almost all cases are H1N1 Swine Flu. This is science on which basis we are told to vaccinate our young? Whoah there...Not with our children.-----------------------------------

Please read...and be AWARE.----------------Constitutional TyrannyBy Mark LernerPublished 07/22/09http://www.campaign forliberty. com/article. php?view= 145Printer-friendly versionThe Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee met July 15th to hear testimony regarding the Real ID Act 2005 and the newly introduced Providing for Additional Security in States' Identification ("PASS") Act. Senator Lieberman is the Chairman of the committee. As you will see, the "fix" was in.For two weeks the Stop Real ID Coalition, of which I, Mark Lerner, am the co-founder, had lobbied to provide testimony to the committee. Thousands of our supporters called the committee on our behalf. The answer we received from the committee staffers was there was going to be two witnesses that were already scheduled to testify before the committee that were opposed to the PASS Act, thus my testimony was not needed. This is where the "problem" started. I had already spoken with one of the two people that were supposedly going to oppose the PASS Act. He told me his organization was supporting the PASS Act. The second person was a former DHS senior person who had previously stated he preferred Real ID but would accept the PASS Act. He did believe the PASS Act did need some strengthening to work.My own area of knowledge is in the areas of biometrics and global information sharing. I have testified on the state level many times. I must have been considered credible because legislation opposing Real ID resulted.Knowing that I was not being allowed to testify, I decided to attend the hearing. Committee staffers had notified me that I would be allowed to submit written testimony. I declined because the "fix" was in. Few people ever read written testimony.Long story short-The hearing proceeded and not one person provided opposing testimony to the PASS Act. Not only was I lied to but so were the thousands of citizens who called. The hearing was a "staged" event. One would have to believe there were provisions of the Real ID Act that were not just needed but could not be achieved at the state level by state lawmakers before supporting Real ID or the PASS Act. The National Governors Association worked with Senator Akaka (the author of the PASS Act), the National Conference of State Legislators, and DHS to come up with the compromise legislation, the PASS Act.The NGA and the NCSL sold out states’ rights and the rights of citizens for money. No surprise. Our organization is opposed to the use of biometrics and RFID with state driver’s licenses. International standards under Real ID apply to the license itself and the digital facial image. American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) standards for driver’s licenses were adopted as part of Real ID. On AAMVA’s website they proclaim they are an international organization that serves law enforcement and motor vehicle administrators. The International Civil Aviation Organization, an agency of the U.N., adopted standard was applied to the digital facial image/photograph for state driver’s licenses during the rulemaking process for the Real ID Act.By using international standards there would be global interoperability/ information sharing. The photo was mandated to be facial recognition compatible. Real ID/PASS Act=Being enrolled into a single global biometric identification system that links our body to our ability to buy and sell. After the hearing I asked people to call the committee staffers and Senator Lieberman’s office and again asked if I could testify in person before the legislation came up for a vote in committee in about two weeks. Once again committee staffers lied. They told callers two people had testified against the PASS Act and went further by saying I did not know what I was talking about. The actual testimony is provided on the committee’s web-site.We are going to focus our efforts on the House Homeland Security Committee when the legislation goes to the House of Representatives.I have met with the ACLU about the Real ID Act. That meeting with the support of Republican state lawmakers resulted in the ACLJ opposing Real ID. The provisions of the PASS Act would not allow the ACLJ to support the PASS Act. I spoke with the ACLU and they were already opposing the PASS Act as they did the Real ID Act. EPIC and others are also opposing the PASS Act as they did the Real ID Act. On our website, www.Stoprealidcoali tion.com you will find a video of a conference we sponsored last year at the National Press Club (NPC) in Washington D.C. You will be surprised at the diversity of those that stood together at the NPC when you watch the video. There is hope. Mainstream media is watching and reporting. The AP is honoring their responsibility as a media organization. We have been told many times we would fail; each time we prevailed. The Campaign for Liberty is a valuable ally in this "fight." Failure is not an option.

Just thinking. What could Kanaka Maoli boycott as a way to bring about Justice?----------------------------------* Transport Workers to Boycott Honduran ShipsITF calls for boycott to protest military coup, flagsof convenienceby Bruce BarnardJournal of Commerce, Jul 20, 2009 3:18PM GMThttp://www.joc.com/node/412425The International Transport Workers Federation calledfor a worldwide boycott of Honduran-flag merchant shipsto protest the military coup in the Central Americannation.London-based ITF said its call for action "is likely toaffect the loading and unloading of the 650 shipsflying the Honduran flag."The ITF called on its 656 member unions to take"peaceful" and "lawful" measures to put pressure onHonduras's military government, which deposed PresidentManuel Zelaya in a coup on June 28. "We have to putreal pressure on the Honduran military to allow thecountry to revert to democracy," ITF General SecretaryDavid Cockroft said. The ITF had already targeted the Honduran fleet as partof its long-running campaign against flags ofconvenience. It condemned the Honduran flag as "a low-cost cosmetic ship registration by companies with nolink to the country and no intention of employing itscitizens onboard."The boycott would hit Honduras's two main exports -textiles and coffee, which are mostly shipped to theUnited States.Honduras's interim government on July 19 rejectedmediation efforts by Costa Rican President Oscar Ariasaimed at resolving the political crisis.Robert NaimanJust Foreign Policywww.justforeignpolicy.orgnaiman@justforeignpolicy.org

Richard Figueroa aka Richard Kamahele Figueroa: There seems to be something wrong with what Richard Figueroa is doing so I am reposting this here.I am reposting this here just in case it is deleted elsewhere :-) FWIW I have no problem with capitalism as long as one does not step on the iwi and/or oiwi to get ahead at the EXPENSE of the iwi. (NOTHING and NO ONE will ever change my mind about that LOL) I also believe in the TOTAL independence of the Hawaiian Kingdom. However some things and some PEOPLE seem to be problematic. There seems to be HUGE red flags and I am reposting them here mainly for my family and friends to read. This was my response to someone else who wrote about Richard Figueroa which I am reposting here. Thank you to THE king who inspired me to take the time and energy to post this and repost this:"* The U. S. law requires it, Richard believes it is very importantto act in full compliance with both U. S. and Kingdom law."That is EXACTLY why I don't buy his [Richard Figueroa] product. It is being DEPENDENT... NOT independent: "Not governed by a foreign power; self-governing. Free from the influence, guidance, or control of another or others; self-reliant:" And I believe in the TOTAL independence of the Hawaiian Kingdom.* It provides full transparecy at all times. The Kingdom and FullOnHoldings have nothing to hide."* Registration implies to all, including the U. S. and foreigngovernments, that we are to be taken seriously and know what we aredoing. This is not a situation of a complaining or demonstratingFaction. Take the Native Hawaiian people seriously, very seriously.Note: Richard has already written a detailed letter to over 120 worldgovernments asking for their support."If you read the U. S. Foreign Agents Registration Act of1938 (FARA) http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal you can see that a part of the domain has "criminal" in it.Then when you go to the United States Code 22 U.S.C. § 611 et seq it explicitly states:"SUBCHAPTER II--REGISTRATION OF FOREIGN PROPAGANDISTS"http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/usc.cgi?ACTION=BROWSE&TITLE=22USCC11What does propagandist mean?It can mean "a person involved in producing or spreading propaganda."Based on this law this is the "REGISTRATION OF FOREIGN PROPAGANDISTS."It states so right here: http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/usc.cgi?ACTION=BROWSE&TITLE=22USCC11"^ It gives FullOn, and in due course the new Kingdom government, theability to get the Kingdom's factual/legal position before the highestand most important U. S. government officials. We believe they arealready researching the facts and law regarding the rights of theKingdom and its citizens, and discussing it. Their research willconfirm Richard's, the Kanaka Maoli are entitled to full independenceand the Kingdom's governance over the Hawaiian Archipelago. Thesooner the U. S. knows it is wrong and the Kingdom is right, and thatother nations also know and challenge the U. S. as to its intentionsregarding the Kingdom and its independence, the sooner meaningfulnegotiations will take place with the U. S. resulting in fullindependence. It won't be easy or always polite, but the Kingdom andits citizens will prevail."Yes but not with Richard Figueroa who has filed papers with ANOTHER nation which is a contradiction.Instead it will be done by someone else who will go to the International Court --- NOT to an entity of the United States.IMHO that is why so many people are not buying what he is trying to sell. It's the little things.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Aloha kaua e Kai.If one looks at the website describing the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) note that there is the word "criminal" in the domain name as well:http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/fara-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"Thanks for the homework on the law."Aloha kaua e Kai.One thing that they do not fully disclose is that Thayer Lindauer is an MLM Lawyer: http://mlmlawyer.com who claimed that he was fired from YTB and wrote this letter to the Board of Directors nearly three years after he was allegedly "fired:"http://worldwidescam.info/Stockholder_letter.pdfyet all that time he didn't insist on going things on the up and up??? He is an MLM Lawyer:http://mlmlawyer.com/A HUGE red flag to me coupled with a statement that his ex-wife allegedly stated:"These claims arose out of a domestic relations case in which Rogers, an attorney representing Thayer Lindauer's former wife, sought to have Lindauer Law Offices, P.C., a professional corporation, and Thayer Lindauer, as its sole shareholder, officer, and director, held in contempt for failure to fulfill an assignment of earnings."http://vlex.com/vid/thayer-lindauer-helen-husband-36120633For those few oiwi who support him... it amazes me how they value the potential of making a profit over valuing the iwi. Amazing!!!"You do know for Figueroa to build his Ethanol plant in the Kingdom [the nation within a nation one] he needs a US okay. So he seeks US permission and not Hawaiian Kingdom authority to go forward with a vote!"The truth always comes out... and there we have it.Malama, LanaTopic: Richard FigueroaSubject: Richard FigueroaTag: Richard FigueroaLatahs!!!

NOAA to track munitions in seaMonitors at weapons dumpsites will check environmental effectsBy Gregg K. KakesakoPOSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Jul 22, 2009Nine ocean current monitoring sensors will be placed off Pokai Bay at two World War II weapons dumpsites Friday as part of the Pentagon's continuing assessment of the potential effects of sea-disposed munitions.Tony Reyer, a scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said yesterday that four sensors will be located at the conventional weapons dumpsite a few miles off Waianae known as ordnance reef. Two will be placed in 300 feet of water, and another two at 50 feet.Five others will be anchored with 3,000-pound weights in 8,000 feet of water at a deep-sea chemical weapons munition disposal site 10 miles west of Pokai Bay. A string of sensors will be linked at depths of 40, 492 and 1,476 feet.Kekaula Hudson, project manager for the Army Corps of Engineers, said the Army hopes to begin recovering some of the conventional weapons dumped at ordnance reef as early as next summer using underwater robots."The plan is to use a barge system," Hudson said, "and to treat the munitions on the barge and then take the scrap metal out of the state for disposal."All of the sensors will be battery operated and will be in place for a year. The sensors will record speed and direction of ocean currents to determine where they would carry munitions materials if they were ever released."These sensors will collect data that has not been previously available and will give us a better understanding of the ocean conditions in the area," said Jason Rolfe, co-leader of the $1.6 million NOAA project. The current data also will be used in other projects, Reyer added, such as coastal zone management, pollution control, tourism and search and rescue operations.Sensors will be deployed from the 68-foot NOAA research ship Hi'ialakai, commanded by Cmdr. John Caskey, and the UH research vessel Klaus Wyrtki.NOAA Munitions StudySixty years ago, the military dumped munitions off the coast of Waianae and now the NOAA is launching a study to learn more about the potential impacts from those sites.[ Watch ]Reyer, who was involved in NOAA's 2006 sampling of sediment, water and fish at ordnance reef, said the dumpsites have not caused any health problems. No explosives or related compounds were detected in the fish samples taken during the two-week survey. Most munitions are covered with coral growth. No similar tests were done at the deep-water dumpsite, Reyer said.Hudson said a follow-up screening at ordnance reef will take place next month.Tad Davis, the Army's deputy assistant secretary for the environment, safety and occupational health, said the Armywill spend $3 million to remove or destroy in place up to 1,500 conventional munitions using remote underwater drones and other robotic techniques perfected by oil companies. The weapons range from .50-caliber or smaller ammunition to 50- to 100-pound bombs and 105 mm projectiles. Many of the munitions have been in the water so long that they have been become part of the reef. The Army's goal is to clear the water from the shoreline to 120 feet offshore.

I truly believe that keiki are so important. Keiki learn what they see and hear from their makua, us! Often times we find ourselves getting annoyed with keiki for making little mistakes but I think that we forget that we were all there at one point. How can we get upset at keiki for spilling milk if we don't first teach them how to pour milk? After learning a little bit about the Montessori teaching methods, a lot of things make sense to me now. In a Montessori setting the teacher follows the child and gears teaching toward the child's specific personality. How awesome is that? I think it would be great if we could all get back to that style of teaching and thinking. Kulia I Ka Nu'u is a program that I work with and it's a Hawaiian based Montessori curriculum that is taught to makua of 3-4 year old keiki to do at home for about 5-15 minutes a day. This curriculum is taught free of charge AND we have many sites around the island AND we have childcare free of charge for the duration of our classes. :) Let me know if you have any questions! Ke aloha no, Nohea.

For my family and friends who like KNOW:Some of y'all know that on my maternal side my great great great grandmother is/was Pale Kauwe. To me ANYONE who disrespects the Kauwe line get what is coming to them... and it shows. The Kauwe line is very deep and runs strong. That probably explains how strong the Amongs are especially the Among women. Rachel married Goo Ah Mong in 1930 then married Enoch Kaaua in 1939. My great grandmother Bessie comes from Rachel.Someone recently wrote about koko and the Among blood runs deep which Kalani already knows.Well Kalani sent this email to me LOL:
"I'm forwarding this to you for your HELP! lol Anyway, just that the Kauwe name comes up & when I search my database, really the only name that i do a search on & your ancestors' names come up. I know YOU are the key to unlock those of us who have been searching for awhile on how we are tied to one another. I know that once your ohana shares those hidden clues, we can connect more of our ohana together"
The spooky part was this part, "I know YOU are the key to unlock those of us who have been searching for awhile on how we are tied to one another." He wants me to tell him... but he didn't tell me what he wants to know????!!! LOLWell soon after he sent the email to me... my mom called me. I know that it is NOT a coincidence LOLOn my paternal side... my grandmother who is a member of Daughters of Hawai'i as well as other high societies like Ahahui Ka'ahumanu Society etc:
(I plan to apply to all of the hui that she belongs to.)Latahs!

A very long, but important read. For justice to prevail...the TRUTH needs to get out. The MEDIA is a crucial way that happens, so good to keep that in mind. This article is a good reminder. Donna-----------------------------Cronkite's Unintended Legacyby Robert Parryhttp://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/07/20-9Original: Published on Monday, 07/20/09 by Consortium Newshttp://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/071909.htmlWith his measured calm and seriousness of purpose,Walter Cronkite set a high standard for televisionjournalism that has rarely been met since hisretirement in 1981. But the legendary CBS anchorman whodied Friday also may have unintentionally contributedto the American Left's dangerous complacency aboutmedia. The feeling of many Americans (especially liberals)about the Cronkite era was that journalists could betrusted to give the news reasonably straight.Though far from perfect, the Cronkite generation stoodup to Sen. Joe McCarthy's red-baiting, showed thenation the injustices of racial segregation, revealedthe brutality of the Vietnam War (even while beinglargely sympathetic to its goals), exacted some measureof accountability for President Richard Nixon'spolitical crimes and took a generally serious approachto informing the citizenry.Cronkite personified the notion that TV news was apublic service, not just a revenue stream or anopportunity to place ads around feel-good features.Yet, in that way, Cronkite contributed to complacencyamong many mainstream and liberal Americans whobelieved that the U.S. news media, though flawed, wouldcontinue to serve as an early-warning system for theRepublic - and that they could focus on other concerns. The American Right, however, had a differentperspective. Right-wingers saw the Cronkite-era newsmedia as the enemy - undermining McCarthy'santi-communist crusade, laying the groundwork for anintegrated America, eroding public support for theVietnam War, hounding Nixon from office, andconcentrating public attention on various socialproblems.Cronkite was singled out for contempt because of hisperceived role in turning Americans against the VietnamWar, especially after the surprise communist TetOffensive in 1968. After returning from a trip toVietnam, Cronkite closed his Feb. 27, 1968, newscastwith a personal analysis of the situation."To say that we are mired in stalemate seems the onlyrealistic, yet unsatisfactory, conclusion," Cronkitesaid. "It is increasingly clear to this reporter thatthe only rational way out then will be to negotiate, not as victors, but as an honorable people who lived upto their pledge to defend democracy, and did the bestthey could."After the broadcast, President Lyndon Johnson isreported to have said, "If I've lost Cronkite, I'velost the country." Johnson began serious negotiationsaimed at ending the war before he left office, anendeavor that the Nixon campaign surreptitiouslysabotaged. In 1972, Cronkite also gave traction to theinvestigation of Nixon's Watergate spying by devoting14 minutes of one newscast to explain the complexpolitical-corruption story.Plotting on the RightBy the mid-1970s, with the Vietnam War lost and Nixonousted, key strategists on the Right pondered how tomake sure another Watergate scandal wouldn't unseat afuture Republican President and how to guarantee thatanother anti-war movement wouldn't sink a futureVietnam War.The Right settled on a two-pronged media strategy:build an ideologically committed right-wing media andorganize anti-press attack groups that would putmainstream journalists on the defensive.Led by Nixon's former Treasury Secretary Bill Simon, conservatives at key foundations coordinated theirgrants to support right-wing magazines and to fundattack groups. Later, other right-wing financiers, suchas Korean theocrat Sun Myung Moon and Australian mediamogul Rupert Murdoch, joined the mix.Through the 1980s and 1990s, a vertically integratedright-wing media machine took shape, reaching fromprint forms like books, newspapers and magazines toelectronic forms like cable TV, talk radio and theInternet. Wealthy right-wingers poured tens of billionsof dollars into this process. The investment made sure that Americans across thecountry got a steady diet of right-wing propaganda fromradios, TV and print products, while mainstreamjournalists who dug up information that challenged theRight's propaganda came under coordinated attack. Manyindependent-minded journalists were pushed to themargins or forced out of the profession altogether. The mainstream news personalities who survived knewthat their livelihoods could be stripped away at amoment's notice if they were deemed by the Right topossess a "liberal bias." Many journalists twistedthemselves into contortions so as not to anger theRight.Meanwhile, the American Left made the opposite choice.Apparently believing that professionals like Cronkitewould stay in charge of mainstream news, well-heeledliberals put their money into almost everything butmedia. The Left largely ignored media in favor of "grassrootsorganizing" and embraced the slogan: "think globally, act locally." Progressives increasingly put theirresources into well-intentioned projects, such asbuying endangered wetlands or feeding the poor. So, while the Right engaged in "information warfare" -seeking to control the flow of information to theAmerican public - the Left trusted that Walter Cronkiteand future Walter Cronkites would keep the nationhonestly informed. However, in 1981, just as right-wing Republican RonaldReagan took control in Washington, Cronkite retired asthe CBS Evening News anchor at the age of 64. He soonfound himself excluded from any significant role at thenetwork he helped build. Then, backed by the Reagan administration'stough-minded "public diplomacy" teams, the Right rampedup the pressure on Washington news bureaus to rein inor get rid of troublesome journalists - achieving thatgoal with a stunning measure of success. [For detailson this strategy, see Robert Parry's Secrecy &Privilege: Rise of the Bush Dynasty from Watergate toIraq.]Failure on the LeftAs those right-wing pressures began to take a toll onreporters at the national level, the progressivesfocused on more immediate priorities, such as fillinggaps in the social safety net opened by Reagan'spolicies. With the numbers of homeless swelling and the AIDSepidemic spreading, the idea of diverting money to aninformation infrastructure seemed coldhearted. Afterall, the social problems were visible and immediate;the significance of the information battle was moretheoretical. In the early 1990s, I first began approaching majorliberal foundations about the need to counterright-wing pressure on journalism (which I had seenfirst-hand at the Associated Press and Newsweek), but Ireceived dismissive or bemused responses. One foundation executive smiled and said, "we don't domedia." Another foundation simply barred mediaproposals outright. On occasion, when a few center-left foundations didapprove media-related grants, they generally went fornon-controversial projects, such as polling publicattitudes or tracking money in politics, whichcondemned Democrats and Republicans about equally.Meanwhile, through the 1990s, the Right poured billionsof dollars into their media apparatus.Young right-wing writers - such as David Brock and AnnCoulter - found they could make fortunes working withinthis structure. Magazine articles by star conservativesearned top dollar. Their books - promoted on right-wingtalk radio and favorably reviewed in right-wingpublications - jumped to the top of the best-sellerlists.(Brock broke from this right-wing apparatus in the late1990s and described its inner workings in his book,Blinded by the Right. By then, however, Brock hadgotten rich writing hit pieces against people whointerfered with the Right's agenda, like law professorAnita Hill whose testimony about sexual harassmentendangered Clarence Thomas's Supreme Court nomination.)As the 1990s wore on, mainstream journalists adapted tothis altered media environment by trying desperatelynot to offend the Right. Working journalists knew thatto do so could damage or destroy their careers. Therewas no comparable danger from offending the Left. Thus, many Americans journalists - whether consciouslyor not - protected themselves by being harder onDemocrats in the Clinton administration than they wereon Republicans during the Reagan-Bush-41 years.Indeed, through much of the 1990s, there was little todistinguish the Clinton scandal coverage in theWashington Post and the New York Times or on thenetwork news from what was in the New York Post and theWashington Times or on Fox News and Rush Limbaugh'sshow. The animus toward Clinton spilled over into Campaign2000 when the major media - both mainstream andright-wing - jumped all over Al Gore, freely misquotinghim and subjecting him to almost unparalleled politicalridicule. By contrast, George W. Bush - while viewed asslightly dimwitted - got the benefit of nearly everydoubt. [See Consortiumnews.com's "Al Gore v. the Media"or "Protecting Bush-Cheney."]Siding with BushDuring the Florida recount battle in November 2000,liberals watched passively as Republican activists fromWashington staged a riot outside the Miami-Dadecanvassing board, and the Washington Post's center-leftcolumnist Richard Cohen called for the selection ofBush as "a likable guy who will make things better andnot worse." [See Consortiumnews.com's "Bush'sConspiracy to Riot or "Mob Rule Wins for W."]Once five Republicans on the U.S. Supreme Court blockeda state-court-ordered recount and handed Bush the WhiteHouse, both mainstream and right-wing news outletsacted as if it were their patriotic duty to rallyaround the legitimacy of the new President. [For moreon this phenomenon, see our book Neck Deep.]The protect-Bush consensus deepened after the Sept. 11,2001, terror attacks as the national news media -almost across the board - transformed itself into aconveyor belt for White House propaganda. When the Bushadministration put out dubious claims about Iraq'ssupposed weapons of mass destruction, the majornewspapers rushed the information into print. Many of the most egregious WMD stories appeared in themost prestigious establishment newspapers, the New YorkTimes and the Washington Post. The New York Timesfronted bogus assertions about the nuclear-weaponscapabilities of aluminum tubes that were really forconventional weapons. Washington Post editorialsreported Bush's allegations about Iraqi WMD as fact, not a point in dispute.Anti-war protests involving millions of Americancitizens received largely dismissive coverage. Criticsof the administration's WMD claims were ignored orderided. When Al Gore offered a thoughtful critique ofBush's preemptive-war strategy, he got savaged in thenational media. [See Consortiumnews.com "Politics ofPreemption."]Over several decades, by investing smartly in mediainfrastructure, the Right had succeeded in reversingthe media dynamic of the Cronkite era. Instead of aserious and skeptical press corps, most nationaljournalists knew better than to risk losing theircareers by getting in the way of the Republicanjuggernaut. Many on the Left began acknowledging the danger of thismedia imbalance. But even as the disasters of the Bushpresidency deepened, wealthy progressives continued tospurn proposals for building a mediacounter-infrastructure that could challenge the "groupthink" of Washington journalism and start pushing themainstream news media back to its old principles. The Left's media activities centered mostly on holdingconferences to discuss "media reform," not actuallydoing journalism or building new outlets. Some Hopeful SignsHowever, there have been some hopeful signs forAmerican liberals. The Air America radio network didget off the ground in 2004 (although only barely) andhelped catapult two rising stars into prominence (AlFranken who is now a U.S. senator from Minnesota andRachel Maddow who landed a liberal-oriented show onMSNBC).But even that limited progress is fragile. GeneralElectric has okayed an experimental lineup of liberalhosts on its evening MSNBC lineup (also including EdSchultz and Keith Olbermann), a decision that could beeasily reversed if ratings lag or corporate prioritieschange.Meanwhile, the Right continues to consolidate its mediadominance, either through direct ownership of outletsor from the residual impact of three decades ofsuccessfully intimidating mainstream journalists. While Fox News delivers its usual right-wing fare, similar viewpoints are common at outlets like CNBC andCNN. While the Rev. Moon's Washington Times stillpublishes its right-wing diatribes, the WashingtonPost, the flagship of the Watergate coverage in the1970s, has evolved into a neoconservative newspaper, especially its opinion pages. The media asymmetry is also not without real-lifeconsequences.Even after the resounding victories of Barack Obama andthe congressional Democrats in 2008, there remains aprimal fear among many Democrats from states dominatedby right-wing media when votes come up on health-carereform or other progressive goals.Indeed, it's hard to understand why Democrats fromMontana, Arkansas and other states remain so timid ifone doesn't factor in the continuing U.S. mediaimbalance, which is especially intimidating in parts ofthe country where the right-wing media dominance isalmost total, where a politician can be demonized byRush Limbaugh, Fox News and pro-Republican outlets withlittle opportunity to mount a public defense.Walter Cronkite was surely not to blame for thisongoing distortion of the American media-politicalprocess. It was the failure of CBS and other mainstreamnews outlets to live up to Cronkite's standards thatenabled the Right to take the United States down thisdestructive path. The blame also must be shared by the American Left, especially liberals with deep pockets, for not backinghonest journalists who told the truth despite threatsof career retribution - and for not investing in amedia infrastructure that could defend the principlesthat Cronkite left behind.
