  • 2766656729?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024We are training the next generation of our Ohana to do Lomilomi. Kalani McCandless is at Kealakehe High School. It takes at least 10 years to train a practitioner to do all aspects of Lomi Lomi which includes la'au lapa'au, ho'oponopono, Ho'oma'ema'e/cleansing.
  • aloha Kamea, Auntie Margaret's daughter is teaching and so is Haunani Hopkins and Auntie Lehua McCandless-Sen. http://lomihawaii.com

  • Moving to Big Island in October. Anybody know where's a good place to learn lomilomi? I know Aunty Maragret is no longer with us and I'm not sure if her daughter Nerita is still teaching. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Mahalo nui!
  • I sincerely could use this type of massage!
Need to learn and practice the art of it in daily living .
    E Malama Pono
  • E maika'i no i keia 'ao'ao... I glad for know this page & hui exists... Pono makou e malama i ko makou mo'omeheu a mau a mau!!!!! E ho'omau i ka hana maika'i :)
  • Ae, pololei no ho'i. As my Tutu said, Pa=touch Ola=life, health, healing. It was not psychology it was actual touch with aloha, that aloha carries mana. For the word of God says, "Perfect Love cast out all fear". Fear cause stress which makes affects the nerves and cause the muscles and our internal organs to tense up. Our Kupuna knew about the effects of stress on the autonomic nervous system. This is why the Kahuna Anaana had power because of the fear they would put on the victim. Jesus has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, of LOVE, and a sound mind. We can do lomi lomi with ALOHA and see the results when we cast out that spirit of fear.
  • "One of the messages I give wherever I speak is that this work, the work of massage, is not about technique. It is all about touch. Touch happens before we apply our technique; the technique is merely an excuse to touch someone. Touching imparts caring, support, and nurturing. Touch is giving love and that is what massage is all about, giving love through the skilled act of touch.
The heart of lomilomi is love and respect for others. Lomilomi gives love and it is therefore one of the true acts of human kindness and one of the greatest of healing arts."

(Excerpt from Robert Noah Calvert founder of Massage Magazine, author of The History of Massage, in the book Na Mo'olelo Lomilomi: The Traditions of Hawaiian Massage and Healing, written by R. Makana Risser Chai, 2005)

Makana Chai is a member on this site as well and has written 2 wonderful books on lomilomi. The first is "Na Mo'olelo Lomilomi" which is more of a how to do lomilomi book. Her second is a beautiful book with pictures and comments called, "Hawaiian Massage: Lomilomi, Sacred Touch of Aloha" which is more of the "why" to book. Makana has done such a wonderful job especially because of her hard work and efforts in research and interviews. They are wonderful to learn about why and how to do lomilomi.
  • Lomi Lomi is my birthright. I descend from the Alii Kahuna of Moanalua going back to Tahiti. I teach and practice lomi lomi as passed to me from Auntie Margaret Kalehuamakanoeluluuonapali Machado and Uncle Kalua Kaiahua. My Tutu Paula Elderts McCandless said her name and my name is Pa Ola, the touch to heal. But most of all I give the glory as a Native Hawaiian to the Lord Jesus Christ, it is the Lord that heals, we are just the vessel. He Iesu wale no hiki ho'ola mai ana ia kakou a pau loa.

Lomilomi is not a massage!

It's a way of life. If you truly understand what lomilomi is then you should know that lomilomi is aloha. Aloha for one another, aloha for yourself, aloha for the plants, the wind, the ocean. Lomilomi is aloha for our ancestors, for the keiki, aloha for our kuleana. Lomilomi is continuous, constantly, forever. Share lomilomi every second of everyday, and you will get lomilomi from everyone around you.
