Let's pretend I visit your house. You offer me food and rest. I decide to stay. Then, I order you and your family around, use your things and rearrange the rooms.I take down your photos and religious symbols, replace them with my own and make you speak my language. One day, I dig up your garden and replace it with crops that I can sell. You and your family must now buy all of your food from me.Later, I invite my father and his buddies over. They bring guns. We take your keys.I forge a deed and declare my father to be the owner of your house.I bring more people. Some work for me. Some pay me to stay in your house.I seize your savings and spend it on my friends. You and your family now sleep on the porch. Finally you protest. Being reasonable, I let you stay in a corner of the house and give you a small allowance, but only if you behave.I tell you, "Sorry, I was wrong for taking the house."But when you demand your house back, I tell you to be realistic. "You are part of this family now, whether you like it or not," I say. "Besides, this is for your own good. For all that I have done for you, why aren't you grateful?"Now Do You See Why Hawaiians Want Nation Back?
and so what do we do with that awareness?? whatʻs the next step?? if it seems that the world is unchangeable, then it probably will be...but there is always the final frontier: ourselves!! as we do what we can do externally--learn our history, language and culture, plant kalo, restore the `āina, protect the iwi, fight evictions, return the water, protect wahi pana, etc.--we have more than enough work within ourselves...we have all been wounded, all of us...we are all colonized to some degree--most of us have little to no maoli identity/lifestyle left...so we must look i loko, inside, and wage the struggle in our heads and hearts...this is the ultimate battle, the real war..how can we effectively wok towards collective sovereignty when we do not have personal sovereignty...we must reclaim ourselves, and no matter how hopeless and unchangeable the outside world seems, we have more than enough work within to keep us busy for a lifetime.
He who has the guns win. The Government may talk about Freedom and use it to their advantage but since the time of the American Indians trying to get back their land. This will NEVER happen to the HAWAIIAN people because they are to much money to be lost plus the sticking lawyers from both sides will eat up the money to fight the cause. In order to take over a country first you remove the weapons that can be used, then you destroy their Gods or what ever they believe in. You replace their educational system or you destroy their educational system. You put the educated, the teachers and leaders into force labor camps or shut them up by giving them money, house and enough stuff to keep them happy and fed. See in this world or Govenment that we live in it is all about money. Money talks bull shit walks and if you step on some ones foot they will come at you with a big stick. The problem with the USA is the people have lost their sense of being, No pledge to the flag, having political people become safety your safety police, removing the right to bear arms by slowly brain washing the people to thinking the right to own fire arm is only for military purpose, letting our lands, jobs and sometimes our hopes and dreams be cast away to some foreign soil because the cost to run a company is cheaper over seas. With hope and dreams for the younger generation you will have notthing for them to look forward to when they grow up. If you look at the American history there's lots of stuff and stories that were pushed under the rug and hidden from the history books or the stories were protrayed to make the American Congress to look like the good guys. You catch my drift about what I'm trying to say. Hope you look deep into your heart and not your pocket book.
