  • Do kanaka still live and subsist in the valley? Who cares for the lo'i there? Is it a park now?
I visited there in the early 1970's and I remember how breathtaking it was then.
  • I don't know why Paaohao sounds familiar to me. Probably a name I encountered while doing someone's genealogy. I had a classmate - John Nahoopii who lived in Kalamaula. Maybe his family comes from Halawa side too since I know that there were the Kalilikane family also living in Kalamaula whose family comes from Halawa. I assume they were pretty much displaced and ended up on homestead in kalamaula.
  • Epic.. I was just looking at a similar pic taken of Halawa valley in the 1950's, this looks like a similar pic to that. Halawa is my 'ohana's stompping grounds, we come from the Pa'aohao line and my great tutu was Luahine Naho'opi'i. Do any of those names sound familiar?
  • Beautiful!
