Laie Kuleana landowners occupy their ancestral land and burial site

We need people to come this morning 4 am, all day and take a stand with us until tomorrow morning. Where? Kamehameha Highway and Cackle Fresh Store, go mauka a quarter of a mile, you will see the camp. Last night we had an irate woman by the name of Roxie Apuakehau from the Mormon church attempt to stop the posting of our fence. She grabbed the poles and tried to shake and pull it out of the ground. Earlier we picketed in front of the Laie Shopping Center near Hawaii Reserves Incorporated (HRI) the Mormon real property management company after which we chanted "HRI get off our land." Kekela Miller a Hawaiian woman, employee of HRI came and attempted to chant and choked on the words of Kupuna because she knew what HRI is doing to Kuleana landowners is HEWA. Our 'olelo and leo, our Hawaiian words and voices are so KAPU that when we speak the truth they choke on their words. HRI called in their groundkeeping staff all Pacific Islanders to intimidate us but failed while Jace McQuivey, the legal counsel for HRI hid in the office and bobbing back and forth to see what was going on. McQuivey was responsible for Kupuna's being pepper sprayed with the support as high as the Mayor Mufi Hannemann. If you look at Hannemann's history he has been supportive of any developments in Laie by the Mormon entities when he was a council member to his current position and his hopes for the governorship. This is an assault on our Hawaiian people.

Aloha!

I'm excited about the Monday Night chats, but I may be on late tomorrow night. Some family stuff going on at the hospital, so you'll have to forgive me. I'll been on as soon as I'm home.

If I could, I'd like to start off with this one thought: How have we, and in what way have we, become too westernized in our thought patterns and points of view.

Ku Ching, Deb Edrozo, Lani Riccobuono (from here on Maoli World!), Paul Kealoha Blake and I met at Newark Buffet in Newark, CA last night to celebreate La Kuokoa. It was a truly wonderful time together, and perhaps it is the beginning of more activist fellowship here in Northern CA. It was a real pleasure for all of us to meet Lani, who is an incredible activist on many fronts.
Mahalo to the attendees, and mahalo to Ku for his hospitality and encouragement to get this event together.

We're getting a gathering together to celebrate Hawai'i Independence Day at 3:30 PM, this Saturday, Nov. 28th. Who wants to come? It's in the San Francisco East Bay. If you want to come, email waihili@gmail.com and I'll give directions.

Aloha kakou,
Have had a lot of sickness, some other things going on in my family and immediate circle of friends, so I've been really disconnected from Maoliworld lately. Nov. 20 at my house was cancelled.
But Ku Ching is in town (Berkeley/Albany area) and we are hoping to organize a buffet lunch to commemorate Hawaiian Independence Day on Nov. 28th. Email me at waihili@gmail.com for details. They are still not firm yet but the time is likely to be around 3-4 PM. If there are a lot of people interested, I'll take a head count and make reservations. We are thinking of an Asian place we know in the East Bay that's "all you can eat." We'll be going "dutch" so if you want to come, the meal cost is about $8.95. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Mahalo!

1. Demonstration in SF today; demonstrations in 29 cities on Saturday!
2. Demonstration at Times Square NYC
3. Report: Obama Poised to Announce 45,000 Troop Escalation in Afghanistan
4. Trolley Update and Details
1. Emergency Protest in San Francisco Today! Protesters will march from Union Square to the front of the St. Francis Hotel where Obama is staying to protest Obama's rebranding of the Bush/Cheney program of endless war, preventive detention, and legalized torture. World Can't Wait will award him with a newly-created, George Orwell "War is Peace" Prize. Watch for news!

There will be actions in at least 49 cities on Saturday! You can be one of thousands who are breaking the silence around Obama's trajectory of war, occupations and torture! Join us on Saturday at 3pm at Ala Moana Park (look for the blue earth flags at the Diamond Head end of the park). Call 534-2255 for details.

2. Don't miss the testimony of Staff Sgt. Sandra Lee, who spoke at last week's anti-recruitment demonstration in front of the Times Square Recruitment Station in NYC. How can the US military save Afghan women, when 1 in 3 of its own female members are raped by their fellow soldiers and Marines? Here's the link: Times Square Protest

3. The Obama Administration has reportedly told the British government that it intends to announce an escalation of another 45,000 troops in Afghanistan, potentially as soon as next week. Read more at: 45,000 troops.

4. Important update on trolley! The trolley company just informed us that they cannot provide the trolley. Several are out of commission, and other companies who regularly contract with them and have priority. We have reserved a flatbed truck and will have chairs and mats attached. The truck has a lift and we'll have steps to make it easier to get on the truck as well. We'll try to make it as comfortable as possible. On the positive side, the truck will have a sound system, your signs will be highly visible, and you'll definitely be heard and seen!

5. Check out the Afghanistan Fact Sheet at: Afghanistan Fact Sheet.
