HOW DID HAWAIIANS BECOME OUTCASTS IN THEIR OWN LAND?

Here's What The History Books Won't Tell You -

Western diseases, to which Hawaiians had no immunity, decimated their numbers.
At the time of western contact, well over 500,000 people inhabited the
Hawaiian Islands.

By 1805 that number had been more than halved.

By 1853 there were only 71,000 Hawaiian or part-Hawaiian people in the islands.

Within 100 years of western contact, the Hawaiian population had been reduced by nearly 90 percent.

Accordingto the 2000 census, the numbers of people who claim some native
Hawaiian ancestry have increased to over 400,000. But only 239,000 live
in Hawai`i and they are the poorest, most locked-up population in the
state.

Although they onlymake up about 20 percent of the state's population, in June 2001 they
made up 39 percent of the state's prison population, according to the
state Department of Public Safety.

Sadly, today they make up 37 percent of the state's homeless population.

  • To My knowledge as  a hawaiian i was too in prison and also a woman , who was homeless before . i trusted in my lord and savior he is the only person who deleivered me and helped to serve him so i be able to have a roof over my head and also food to eat, today is christmas eve and i am happy igot to spend this time with a family member of mines and see the people i know and especially to the all of you who talked to me merry christmas and a happy new year. I have gone ahead and seen in prison how over crowded and also it sad to be in prison , especially in the holidays , i wish they would release all the womens and people in juvinille systenm to be back with there families , and get the help form churches and hale naau pono it helped me. i wish too they would get help from alcoholics and narcotics anoymonus and all other programs that will help them , most of to help the prisioners they should have a job and a drug program and also church it is very vital and education too get their degree in prison. I wanted to study law in prison did not get the chance too do that because  there was no thing to deal with that kind of education here on oahu in prisions, and getting educated in prison and keeping them occupied and having their families and childrens together is very cruicial. I was blessed to get out because iwas clean and sober for 4 years and the only sober person in prison because of my past . People should never determine people of their past they should determine how will they be in there future. Past should be used for other people who does allegedly crimes that is real brutal not to the inocent.
