Wow, I am so happy you finally replied to my comment. Been working on my families genealogy and there are so many missing links. Well this one has been solved. It really was meant to be, that my Dad ran into Kaliko and Keonaona on Moloka'i. It was from them that he was given the Aiwohi genealogy. Nice to meet you cuz. That was a truly inspiring story about the Pueo that guided Hattie out of the forest and into the loving arms of the Kawai family. I was saddened to hear that her own family had disowned her. She was only 14, a child still. That Spaulding you met was probably a descendant of Abigail and Hattie's other sister Lily, who married a Spaulding. Lily is buried in the Hopkins family plot in Makiki, Oahu where Kamohoalii is buried along w/ Abigail and their children. Samuel Aiwohi's 2 wives and their children are buried there as well. He was a younger brother of Abigail and Hattie. I was just there today, visiting the graves and putting flowers. My Dad passed away last year and he is in the plot as well along w/ my grandfather, great grandmother, and great-great grandparents.
Most of the Aiwohi's migrated out of North Kohala to Honolulu. Anyways, good to make contact with you. On my maternal side of the family, I have ties to Moloka'i as well. My grandmother was a Townsend and they were from Kamalo. Still own property there by the church. My great-great grandfather was a steamship captain and he married a woman by the name of Luukia Kekahuna Holau who lived in Pelekunu Valley. I would like to plan a trip to Molokai sometime soon to visit these places. Do you go home often? Keep in touch.

I was on Tane's page and I came across your comment. I believe we are related. My great-great grandfather was married to an Aiwohi from North Kohala who came from a family of 14 children. She was Abigail Kamaka Aiwohi and she married Charles L. Hopkins, aka Kamohoalii. Kamohoalii had a son with Abigail's sister, Hattie Kapu Aiwohi. Awhile back, my Dad who is Charles K. Hopkins (named after his great grandfather) was on Moloka'i and ran into two sisters, one who I believe was your grandmother who told him about their father who was a son to Kamohoalii but that he didn't carry the Aiwohi name, something about it being hidden. So if this is correct, than Joseph Aiwohi Kawai would be my great-grand Uncle. I would like to talk story more about this with you, if you don't mind.

I've been busy self-reflecting on the issues that impact all of us. i've met great po'e and just tyring to finish my doctorate while I'm still alive. The main thing, our children is cared for.
