He kahuna ia no ke akua Ku, komo kihei, makini, apo akua ka'ai. And of course, the gourd headpiece is NOT a warrior thing, but a mea kahuna. Just a bit of thinking would tell you that a gourd helmet would not provide good protection, and would greatly impede sight and hearing.
