Mea mahi'ai me kona 'o'o, auamo, huli kalo. malo is lo'i stained and short, so not to impede work, his sweatband (lei po'o pale hou - literally head lei to block sweat) is also stained with the dark mud of the lo'i. The background figure is a cooperative adaptation of a base figure developed by a colleague, Michael Lothiam, an arti teacher in Australia, who worked with me to produce a poster depicting warriors across the Polynesian triangle (see elsewhere).
