  • Aloha e Kealoha,

Ya, I would love to get the information. I'm going to an artists meeting tomorrow at the Hawaii State Art Museum. Maybe they have soe information for that too. but my personal email is: momishells@msn.com. It's funny cause I never considered myself an artist...I just do it like you said for fun...Jewelry making is so cool. and I would love to see your work.

    Mahalo Nui!

  • Aloha e Kealoha,

Mahalo. Actually, I've been a teacher in the schools as a cultural resource for over ten years now. I work through an organization called SKEA Society for Kona's Education and Art so I had to go to a meeting with the Hawaiian immersion school teachers to set up things last year and I told the woman who coordinates for SKEA that my son is a talented artist and that he was in the car. So I made him come in and do that poem for the teachers and they really really liked it. One teacher fourth grade said he was having a hard time getting through to the kids so he would really love for him to do it. The coordinator came in to observe him with the kids...Kawika was nervous but when he was finished...he said he really liked it. He took all of the slam poems that they wrote and I told him, "your suppose to return them to the kids" he really liked them and we enjoyed reading them too. Some of the students "really expressed themselves". Ya, I agree and would love for him to get into college along with his girlfriend. I believe they have Molokai Community College but thats it. HE also somewhat has the option of going to school at Hilo too since we have a place he can stay at on that side. So actually, I want the same for him as myself....the sky is the limit...? Mahalo Nui!

  • Aloha e Kealoha,

That is awesome that you help people although, currently my son became a father recently on Molokai so I don't know if he is in a position to go to college but Mahalo Nui. I think it would be wonderful if he could get scholarships and I agree he is talented but has some growing up to do. He has written music with his friends and absolutely loves that. He is into Reggae and does write some poetry to go with his friends compositions. Anyway, he was asked to do that slam poem for one of the gatherings to oppose La`au point on Molokai but he had moved back to Kona for it. He actually wrote as the closing poem for the last parent meeting for his Natural Resources Academy class. He finished off his Sr. year on Molokai. Ya, I'm proud of him and I see his talent. I could ask him if he is interested. Would the college have to be away from home? Could he attend on Molokai? I appreciate your wanting to help.

    Aloha no,

  • Aloha,

Mahalo for your comment on my son's poem. He wasn't reading it but I agree could have put more feeling into it if he had more time on the cam but I think he took it on a regular digital cam so his time was limited and he wanted to get the ambiance of what is going on in the background. People on the street, the palace, and shopping area, then the car in the front. I see what he was saying... He pretty much wrote it on his own so I give him credit for that. :) but it is "his" expression so who am I to say...he is the artist. but thanks for your comment. I appreciate it.
