  • Want to draw this 2010 conference to your collective attention:
    http://hawaiiconservation.org/2010hcc.asp
Theme this year is indigenous knowledge in ecosystem mangement:
Ecosystem management and restoration in Hawai‘i and across the Pacific continues to evolve. Over the past decade landowners, communities, agencies, and governments have begun to work together more collaboratively, utilizing diverse knowledge systems and decision-making approaches. The 2010 HCC will highlight success stories from Hawai‘i, New Zealand, Micronesia, and other Pacific Islands. Join us in an exploration of this emerging trend in ecosystem management and restoration through formal presentations, informal discussions, and other opportunities to talk story with scientists and citizens, cultural practitioners and researchers.

  • If you are coming to New Zealand then you must come visit us in Wellington. We can suss something out. I can find some money for the internal flights.
  • Yesterday Chaz Doherty chatted with our oli and hula group after practice, in preparation for our visit to Tuhoe in 2009... got us all excited about planning a visit to Te Ika a Maui. Maybe I will finally be able to make good on my desire to stand in your forests and hear the birds' stories.
  • We use Skype at our office, but I've never set it up on my laptop, I think I will do that...
  • Skype! yes I do have access.
  • Right on. I gotta talk with Alice - catch up after our korero in SF oh so long ago....
  • I'm still keen as. I have an airfare to Hawaii too! We have been told that it is easier for us to get money to go to Hawaii than it is to bring people down here.
  • Yeah, I'm with you two. Paul, Alice and I will be at the same symposium next week so hopefully we can get the Maori part of this act organised. Talked to Alice about it a few weeks ago, but very informally.
  • Tho I am now in Brazil working on a week-long Native Peoples Strategy for Amazon conservation with a team from all over N,C, and S America, I too am glad to hear a murmur from the group again. I'll be back i Hawai'i 24 AUG.

  • Back from ceremonies at Puukohola, making ready to leave the islands and return to SF. Lots to do. And this project is surely one of those "lots". Let's get talking with each other again. I miss you guys.
