I've been wondering about the idiom in the first sentence: "o na hekili kui-pamalo" what is the meaning of that rainless thunder? Mana'o?

I am always tickled by insult pieces. Not because I think it's cool to insult people, but that is something that you don't really pick up in classes at school, so examples like this are awesome! Any kind of strong expression of emotion is interesting to me as that is where I struggle with my own olelo.
Anywaaays, I will take a wild stab - I am thinking maybe the "rainless thunder" thing is like the saying "all bark and no bite." Since it is belonging to "that monk seal," I am thinking it could be fitting. Again, just a stab in the dark with zero searching of any resources. Good fun piece. Mahalo. And I hope somebody that knows jumps on.

yes, and I like the description of "that monk seal" alualu papai niho keke o Koholaloa -- undulating flabby skinned, tooth-grimacing one of Koholaloa. The rainless thunder thing is a good mana'o: noise without substance - good insult when criticizing somebody else's article...
