Aloha E na Po'e Lima Maika'i, As part of our 'Modern Issues' of Hawai'i class here at MCC we sometimes address hana no'eau and cultural practices and their interaction with modern times. ki`i punohu

I have been wondering if there are others who work or have worked on making ki`i punohu (ki`i out of the spines of the slate pencil urchin), such as noted by Forbes at a fishing shrine on Kahoolawe. Mahiole

Aloha e na hoa, anyone looking for authentic replica of mahiole made from 'ie'ie? I make and sell them for cultural practitioners and for private collections. I also teach beginning 'ie'ie weaving (basketry, fishtraps) at Leeward Community College. Presently looking for students to start the next class.
