Inouye Blasts Senators For Shelving Spending Bill

US Senator Daniel Inouye has chided his Senate colleagues for shelving an omnibus spending measure which contained an Akaka bill earmark hidden deep inside in favor of a short-term resolution keeping US federal expenditures at current levels.

In a US Senate floor speech yesterday, the Democratic chairman of the Appropriations Committee noted that Republicans who helped craft the 1,900-page bill ended up opposing it.

He said the measure was huge because it contains spending provisions that normally are in 12 separate bills.

He claimed US voters in November were not sending a message to eliminate earmarks.

What part of "No Akaka Bill!" doesnʻt he understand?

  • Sour grapes or not, we will see a country in shambles, but we must survive this in 2011 and 2012.  I strongly believe we can get through this dark period.
