I am not Kanaka Maoli (unless long ago a Kanaka Maoli went to Kansas and met my great-great or great--great-great Gramma, an Arapahoe woman of Kansas)...I am Irish (3 sets great grandparents from Galway and Kerry town, also an occupied, colonized, emerald island) and Arapahoe, ( that tribe forcibly moved to Wind River Wyoming, to share land with Shosone, who had been enemies)...I do support Hawaiian Sovereignty and the special rights of indigenous peoples to self rule, self determination, land, water, cultural practices, and the right to redress of wrongs. Inequities exist because of colonialism, cultural trauma, cultural loss, and racism. Mahalo for today at the palace, mahalo to Kekuni for his clarity of vision, purpose, wisdom and joy...for all who shared their mana`o and for the fine food from the Hoe family...while I am "other" than Kanaka Maoli, I don't want for Kanaka Maoli what my ancestors got, that is not sovereignty.
