The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) would like to invite interested parties to meet as part of on-going consultation for recent iwi kupuna findings by the Honolulu Rail Transit Project. The first meeting will be held: Consultation for Iwi Kupuna Thusrsday, November 8, 2012 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Hawai'i Community Development Authority | Makai Conference Room 461 Cooke Street | Honolulu, HI 96813 The purpose of this meeting is to allow interested parties to learn about recent discoveries of iwi kupuna and give everyone an opportunity to share their views and concerns and ask questions. We are interested in finding descendant families possibly affiliated with the discovered iwi kupuna and any information that pertains to burials in the Honolulu ahupua'a, especially along Halekauwila Street between Keawe and Ahui Streets. Information related to the recent archaeological work can be found at www.HonoluluTransit.org/Planning. All iwi kupuna found in burial sites will be considered as previously identified and treatment decisions will be made in consultation with the O'ahu Island Burial Council and lineal and cultural descendants in accordance with the Hawai'i burial law and administrative rules. Those with lineal ties to, cultural knowledge, concern or religious attachment to cultural and/or historic resources along the project alignment are encouraged to join the project's Native Hawaiian Outreach Program to stay informed of upcoming meetings and be provided with the latest project information.
