Tambry Young has what a lot of other people in Hawai`i don’t – a long–term relationship that’s lasted for thirty years.

But there’s one thing she hasn’t had that most other couples do – an opportunity to marry her partner.

A member of Citizens For Equal Rights, Tambry took the issue on as her own. So much so that it’s her name now on the lawsuit – Young vs. Lingle – that was filed to change Hawai`i’s laws to allow civil union ceremonies for same-sex couples.

Tambry’s journey from observer to front lines fighter has been quite an experience. Along the way she’s discovered how much of an impact a single person can make when standing up for what they strongly believe in.

Her story’s an amazing one, and it’s brand new all this week
on Hawai`i’s award winning Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

  • I just watched this - thank for having Tambry on and featuring this flow for civil rights for all adults in a committed relationship. Ultimately marriage is needed for same sex couples; the depths of our commitments and the sacred parts of our relationships need to be acknowledged too. Tambry, thank you so much for being on this forefront.
  • It is so exciting to reconnect with old friend(s). When I got back from California, (Cal Poly), I met Nania Baher 1992, I always said to her that if I decide to be a Lesbian, I would definitely court Nania. She was so open to many things and I grew from knowing her. Rebeka, Dawna Williams, Susan Hippenstile --amazing women that stuck to having a Women Center on UH campus at Manoa

The need for OBGYN was a hot topic and I think that was brought us all together to create a center at UH Manoa. Wars, Hawaiian issues were all part of our three times a week meetings at the Atherton Bldg. I particuly enjoyed the Mahu group, lot's of fun there.

The Civil Union is important for non same sex unions too. Super Hot topic, I knew Tamby and her partner before the baby came along --cool and exciting that they have a little ten year old. Thank you for sharing.

I meet up with children that are in a same sex relationship all the time. So I am elated with this segment of Free Hawaii.
