The Massie Case and Injustice, Then and Now
UH Manoa Architecture Auditorium
Wednesday, October 21, 6 pm to 8 pm
A nationwide sensation in 193132, the notorious Massie Case served as a touchstone for
race, class, and injustice in Hawai‘i for decades. The case began with an accusation of rape
by European American naval wife Thalia Massie against five local young men, and ended
with the vigilante killers of one of the men, Joseph Kahahawai, having their prison sentences
commuted to one hour spent over drinks with the governor.
A distinguished panel will discuss the Massie Case and its relevance today, outlining the facts
of the case, discussing the ways it affected the subsequent history of Hawai‘i and its various
communities, and its contemporary echoes in such issues as racial differences in prison
sentencing:

Mahalo A Nui Loa, for your fine comment. On behalf of Our O'hana lineage of: Alapa'iNui(his
Sons named: Kaohimaunu(yes, for the record, Alfred Spinney, is MY direct line to KAOHIMAUNU
because, My Great-Grand, Mother named: Lily Keolamauloa Kaohimaunu: Hauanio is a sibling of
Alfred Spinney's Tutu), ame Kanekoa), and to his Heirs of His body lawfully begotten, and to their lawful Descendants in a direct line, failing whom, the SACREDNESS shall descend to Alapa'iNui's
direct line that, I AM, do accept your "condolences." Mahalo A Nui Loa, for your kind words of
attention to direct our subject matters and concerns to the "Hawaiian Kingdom government...per
conduit of "aupunihawaii@hawaii.rr.com." It is with deep regrets that, this route is NOT the route
that our O'hana, would consider. For history purposes, I DID, once upon a time, have a vested
interest of a "Special Appointment," as a Magistrate affiliate with this very aupuni. When I later...
learned that a so-called "King" of a "special" indulgences authority were to create a sort of...
Mo'i Kane positioned, I, took the liberty and, made a drastic step, to verbally terminate! As I, went on to read the administrative rule, I AM suppose to write a letter, of termination. I have yet, to do so.
I shall soon, disclose of a recommendation from you, to "post" a disclosure of our SACRED lineage,
"Royal" ame Konohiki Mo'okuauhau(genealogy). rule, I AM, soon...to resign as a "Magistrate" for Neepapa Aupuni Hawaii. It has been over two(2) years, since, I, physically left the positioned of
a Magistrate. By the way, when looking up such a word as "magistrate," do you know that, this
word means MAGICIAN, only thing, we did not hold a wand but, a gavel. Ha! Ha! HA! With
Much Aloha I Ke Kahi I Ke Kahi Nui, Ki'ai Nui. "Until We Meet Again."
There is little comfort in knowing that Thalia and her husband lived miserable lives after their departure from Honolulu with Thalia eventually committing suicide. Her mother, lived a long life of luxury, the real master mind behind the murder of Joseph Kahahawai.
This case should be standard reading in post-contact Hawaiian history classes for all high school students of Hawaii. It creates understanding of how local culture evolved and why so much animosity towards haole exist, even today.
My priority are: Roman Numeral I. I have already written My "Sister's Message" to the President of the United States (BUSH) and, some of the Congressional members. In this letter, I have cited that...
My Brother were born in and under the KINGDOM of OWHYHE(Hawai'i). I have shared, our Mo'okuauhau/Genealogy and, our direct lineage to the KUMULIPO. At the time of My Brother's passing, I, yet to state publicly about my mana'o. I have stayed out of the public eyes, for the past five(5) years and, decided to go on a public broadcasting station, on October 22, A.D. 2009. I have stayed silent
because I was taught: "Pa'a ka waha," but, My silence were saying "more than the words can" I AM here
for you, my brother and, when the right time comes, I will be there. I believe, that the right time is now and, I have opened myself to the news media in North Carolina, where My brother's case is going to be heard, in a few weeks. I do not think, that the circuit court in North Carolina is the proper venue but,
My Sister-In-Law and the other class action suit parties has already ventured into that "venue" even
inspite, of my adverse mana'o toward the "wrong" jurisdiction, is gone deft ears. Though in My contemplation, I have full knowledge about the process with the DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY and,
how the secretary plays an integral role in my filings as A SECURED PARTY, trade-mark, trade-name under the National Universal Code and, commonly known as "UCC." You see, we all became "slaves"
for the so-called: "STATE OF HAWAII." I shall in the near to be future, disclose further about the "UCC" and, how the rich gets richer under the UCC. Allow me, if you will to return back on track about the Massie's case. In this case, one might look up...Who BONDED the case? Whenever someone bonds
the case, bond the witnesses and bond whatever, they OWN the case! With me, because of My Private
Status as a "SECURED PARTY...," I AM, deciding to BOND My Brother's case and become an INTERVENOR in that case. At this time, I would like to take this opportunity to share to the Kahahawai Ohana but, first I would like to share that I have recently met a nephew who's name is: Shane family of:
Phillips and, how he shared an old newspaper clipping with us, this past Monday(October 5, A.D. 2009) and, I told him, "Wow! this case needs CLOSURE!" He looked at me, and, I began to tell him the story
about the "signs" about the Massies case. I told Shane that, last week when I took a trip to Kakuihewa(O'ahu), I was told just about when we passed-by the grave-site where Kahahawai is buried in an "un-marked" grave, of how I was told about a little story about the Massies case. When I, later
met up with My Cousins from Haiku, one of my cousin began to talk about how she went to the same
grave-site to pay a visit to her Kupuna and, how she had noticed that the grave-site of Kahahawai
is un-marked. The same week upon my return back to the island, I am given a newspaper article to be read and, low and behold, it is about the Massies case. So, My friends and family members began to tell me...how these "signs" must have wonders for CLOSURE. But, I would like to take this opportunity to focus on the Life and lagacy of My Brother. It is like My Niece's statement that she conveyed and
purported to all of us, who attended her father's service and, she began to utter the following statement:
"Don't remember how my father died, but, how he lived." With This Mana'o. We PULE KA KOU I KE
PULE" for all the families who are seeking for the TRUTH and how the TRUTH will set all of us FREE!
With Sincere ALOHA I KE KAHI I KE KAHI/Ho'oponopono Nui: Living HuMan
Being With The Inoa: Noe'Lani.
"The Massies were a prominent family, a family with inheritances. Therefore, the primary notion of the wealthy getting their way is the outcome in this case, which also shows the deliberate disregard for human life, especially for those of color."
About my dad I don't know if I have the guts to talk to my dad about this case. Maybe I can and do what I did the last time. I called my dad and told him I had a friend that wanted to interview him on camera, I was surprised when he said yes. It was Pono's quick thinking and Ha'aha'a that got my dad to talk. Dad's also married to Skippy's mom's sister-- as in Judd. I also graduated from Kailua High School and the "Kill Haole Day" was revised during Bumpy's years at high school it was during the Veitnam War, I thought that was the cause. When I was a child, I can remember my dad leaving the car to go with his brothers and cousins because of the Massie case. I thought Joseph was buried at the airport, was his bones taken to the Kauhumanu side or the poor side of the grave near school street. This one question I might ask my dad.
Amelia there is so much I want to do but I am so limited by the old machoism. My dad just called me and he wants me to come and visit him. My cousin Keleileiki (I hope I got this spelled right) he's over there and it would be a good time to visit. Two hundred year old worm hole I can handle, but 2,000 years that's beyond my energy capacity for now and time is of the essence.
I spoke to Stannard not too long ago, he asked me if I read his book? So I am surprise that he is willing to be on this panel. Do you know he raised the issue of Mandala as a pedifile? What about Mark Twain he was a pedifile. I believe he was talking about how Koolau had both young and old in the same cells block at one time and they had to build another prison to separate the two differnt generations. I wonder was this the time Judd was performing vesectomy on the young boys. Which I believe was the method used for controling births. I also know that Uncle Jimmy(Joseph brother) was upset with Jon which is why I brought the subject up with him, so that he would let down his tabu a few notches. I feel this problem is important for the younger generation to know especially in Koolaupoko. Children in Kailua feel the wrongs but they don't know what the hell is going on. That whole 'wealth and power' wreaks havoc in Kailua that is why I am on to Monty and Laura DLNR like a banshee. Her mom did or forced the consent decree for bombing on Emmet and Soli through the use of Dr. Mills and probably my uncle Randy. When my uncle died it was interesting to glance at his coffin, John W and Soli all in one swoop (got off subject). This stinken Massie behavior gets played over and over. It's in the classrooms and that whole dam community.
Namakaeha spent the night and day with me and she brought her friend with her. And her friend young friend had all the trappings of that time. So this panel should be good, the fricken prison wreaks with this past stench. Do you think the audience and the panel will hang in the balance of justice or support the cry of rape as in Gudalupe Hidalgo 1848? I'm sure the Navy will be present and in cognito. I wonder if the Haole guy that wrote the book will be there the last time I saw him was at the Akaka hearings with the feds. He said his house was standing erect in Manoa where they murdered Joseph.
After hanging out with Kamaka I can't write her last name because I don't know her how to spell it. Volenhoff, I believe--she was always with Mililani. Because of her husbands imprisinment Palikiko--I became interested in Clarence Darrow. Would you believe Kamaka would carry her husbands trial case around with her, it was old and tattered in her arms?
My grandfather Auld also worked with Dillinghams so grandpa became the go between in many family disputes for the Massie case. My dad received lectures over and over especially by my mom. Kaohi
First of all...I would like to extend my "Mahalo A Nui Loa, to the Maoliworld Ohana, who has taken
their diligent efforts, to render their individual Mana'o about the "Massies" case."
Just for history sake, when I first learned about the Massies case years ago, I happened to watch a "homicide story," on television. At the time, I did not study the Law and, therefor, could not
make sense of this crime. As time went on...because My Parents and Ohana always called me,
their "Lawyer/Attorney," and, for the past Fifteen years, I consider Myself a "Student Of The Law."
By having to write the word "Law," it is well known to me as: L=Learn; A=And;W= Win! This is
what, I have been teaching My Haumana, ever since. I do, have an extensive background of
the Law, statues, procedures and the like. I especially, have a passion for our Hawai'ian Kingdom
Laws and, International Law. I, have studied International Law, for the past Ten(10) years. But,
I have yet, to become an International Lawyer/Attorney.
My take to this crime, just to set the record straight? First of all, we all need to look at JURISDICTION.
Because, the crime has been committed in and, on our Koe Hawa'i Pae Aina. This heinous crime,
was never committed in the u.S. Inc., uNITED sTATES or, the uNITED sTATES territories, it took place
here, in Owhyhee or HavaIki on the Island of: Kakuihewa(Konahiki for the Island of: O'ahu). The next indication of mana'o are: DUE PROCESS OF LAW. Where in the process of the law, did the Lawyer/Attorney for both sides "mess-up?" Did anyone pull out the case, for review? Because, as I understand it..."there is no statues of limitations when it comes to FRAUD!" The next mana'o are:
Where is it, in the CIVIL/CRIME procedures that the Lawyer/Attorney "missed?" Remember...
the earthly "judge" who worn the "blackrobe-as per, blackrobe" itself, represents the INJUSTICES.
If some of us, have already taken notes, they would find that, the presiding judge is simply an
"ADMINISTRATOR." I want to think of the "judge" as an administrator of the "HAWAIIAN POSTAL SAVINGS BANK," according to the Organic Act. And, for all of those CO-HORTS/CULPRITS involved in this case, who are long over due for Ho'oponopono, their judgment time will come. At this time,
I am, fairly aware that as we are researchers, acting para-legals, we know that the Attorney(they
are officers of the court and raise their right hands up to the secrecy of the u.S INC'S BANKRUPTCY
of 1933-HJR 192)/Lawyers are so... for the sake of the client but, remember that the lawyer leads
only when the client directs him/her to do what is pono. I am, fully aware that even this
mana'o when it is not put on a "Verified Affidavit Of The Truth," this statement is based upon "HEAR-SAY" and, this avenue has cited cases already in existence and laws that comes under the hear-say
mana'o under due process. Whenever some Living HuMan Being take the initiative to file an Affidavit,
the affidavit is taken to a Public Notary, to file on the basis of: FACTS. Otherwise, every thing we say
can be held against us but, if we all RESERVED OUR RIGHTS, UNDER PROTEST AND UNDER DURESS, this matter becomes irrelevant and, NULL AND VOID.
Just for the sake of revealing My presence on this web-site. I too, like the Massies case, is with alot
of questions? My brother too, died on a foreign soil, in another country and, his case like many others are considered a HOMICIDE CASE. My brother's accusers are yet, to be charged. If I were to disclose to the the KAHAHAWAI Ohana what My intentions
are: I would say to them, "put back priority." I AM,
This should be interesting. My dad is Joseph Kahahawai (correct way of saying his name) first cousin. He is my second. I use to talk to uncle Jimmy--Joseph's brother and ask him why he stopped and threaten to sue anyone who spoke about the case. When uncle Jimmy was dying my dad was by his side often during that week at Casltle Hospital. His wife sold the property soon after his death and the graves suppsedly are still there, she wanted my dad to come and identify where these graves on so that it could be removed. Dad didn't do it, I believe. I'm not able to openly ask dad much questions, it's not a daughter thing to do, he has old ways.
I am not fawn of Clarence Darrow the guy that created two societies within the letter of the law, white and nonwhite. Clarence Darrow was also part of Los Alamos for some odd reason. I don't have the citation anymore, he and Lawrence were good friends. As to why he went broke that's questionable. He also is a hero to African Aemricans because he won a case just before he came here and made money on his case.
The other ugly part about this event his penis was cut off and he bled to death in their upstairs bathtub. The house I believe is still standing in Manoa a symbol of rituals and horrors.
Did you know that at Oglala a native American was murdered the same way. Which is why AIM went there in the first place.
When Kamaka was alive her husband Palikiko, she studied Clarence Darrow because she wanted to prove that her husband did not rape that old women in Nuuanu. According to Kamaka, she said he had put a kitchen cloth in her mouth and she suffocated and died. He did not rape her and she tried to correct that. It was her only mission in life when I first met her.
Back to Massie Case aside from being affected by this case all my life, (I can't see the transformation)and I want to know where he is buried. Accordingly he was buried at the Honolulu Airport. Does anyone know where at the airport? Kaohi
