Aloha, my name is Kawika, and I just wanted to see what other hawaiians thought about the Akaka Bill, Kau Inoa, and the Hawaiian sovereignty movement.Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand...The Akaka Bill is an attempt to gain federal recognition for native hawaiians from America, creating a self governing hawaiian nation within a nation...simillar to indian tribes on the mainland.Kau Inoa is a registry of hawaiians. Their purpose is to collect contact info on hawaiians all over the world so that they can keep us informed of issues affecting hawaiians and let us know when important issues are being voted upon.Groups like Kingdom of Hawaii and Free Hawaii believe that hawaiians should not be made into "tribes" and be federally recognized, but instead have the hawaiian islands returned to its native people for a true hawaiian kingdom and be free from America and it's leaders.Again, I'm not sure if all this is correct, I'm just a hawaiian person, interested in the issues affecting us all. I would like to form my own opinion but right now, I feel like I lack the knowlege and understanding to do so. PLEASE HELP. Share your opinions and help a hawaiian with a thirst for knowlege, form and educated opinion.Mahalo and AlohaKawika Kamakawiwo'ole...

  • Aloha e Kawika.

I have to second alot of what Tane posted. If I were you I would read more about it by unbiased sources and really utilize critical thinking in finding out your opinion about the aforementioned matters.

FWIW my frame of reference differs from a few people here in that my nationalities are Hawaiian and American. In my experience the local, state, and federal governments have done Hawaiians wrong. For example, the Akaka Bill is called the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act but it's name really should be the Native Hawaiian LAND Reorganization Act. They want the land because it is an appreciable asset. They know this yet they won't say it. Therefore they will try to transfer title even though they do not and/or will not say it which is shady.

Even then WE will decide how, when, where, etc we re-organize... on our terms. They do not seem to respect that. Instead they want to "resolve" it for us but in exchange the steal our land while using lame tag lines all in an effort to try to deceive. As an American who is also Hawaiians I ALWAYS read between the lines so to speak and can see the hidden messages. Unfortunately I see another land grab in the works with the Akaka Bill and Kau Inoa as tools to try to legitimize doing Hawaiians WRONG which is so wrong....

I would look to the source (nana i ke kumu) too. Why do they want the Akaka Bill? Why do they want Kau Inoa? Follow the money trail. Always... and that will answer your questions.

In order to develop a conclusion though... you may want to read about it more. I still read as much as I possibly can when I have time and like Tane has already stated, "after studying the bill and the ramifications, I still stand against it."

You will have to decide for yourself though. For me... I stand... and think differently... and after reading and reading more about these issues the more I realize what length some people will do just to try to get the land. Despite the marketing which are lies... I still stand against it.

    Aloha,

  • All good comments and references stated above. Personally, after studying the bill and the rammifications, I still stand against it. It is right that you research and look things ups and the history of the U.S. in its seditious and nefarious actions. Their government is as phony as a four-dollar bill. I just got through reviewing the 14th amendment and it is hair-raising that many don't understand it. Even U.S. citizens don't realize many things in the Constitution and the little nuances that contradict themselves. The same is with the Akaka Bill Basically it is what is not being said that is treaterous. On the surface it looks benign and harmless but legally, it is a lethal weapon used by the U.S. A.

What is overlooked is the massive ku'e petitions supported by 98% of the Kingdom's citizens/subjects. This is the most massive petition of any "modernday" people of any country who are trying to preserve and support their country. Not even the U.S. has had a petition so massive in which the people spoke strongly against the U.S.A.'s criminal acts and demand that the U.S. restore the Queen and her government. Unbeknownst of many Hawaiians, Hawaii nationals and U.S. citizens and those around the world, this has been a continuous fight to regain our country from the U.S. and wanting the U.S. to deoccupy our country that still exists under its belligerent occupation and the destruction of our neutrality. The U.S. continuously violates both the laws of occupation and the neutrality of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Their media had always suppressed the facts and replaced it with the fraud and myths to discount the Hawaiian protests throughout these years. They have shunned and barred anything that supports the facts in the media and scoffs at the idea of the truth. They have shamed and dishonored themselves in their travesty of justice. Like Bush caught in his lies; so have the U.S. government been caught in their lies for over 115 years; especially since we have the use of the computer and can easily get a hold of documents and journals.

Do your critical thinking and use logic and common sense. Go into the Library of Congress and read some of the journals like the North American Journal, The WASP, the court opinions of the varied cases that decifer the U.S. Constitution. Their history and the myths they put forth. There is all kinds of info out their; it's just knowing what to look for and how to connect the dots. The U.S. Americans are for the most part very good people and even they are being victimized by their own country. The constitution still protects the white men from the original states; check out the upper case C = Citizens v. lower case c = citizens. In law, there is a BIG difference. Read the opinions of the court and those who are well-educated in law. There is a difference in common language and legal language that will translate much differently. All laws are referrrenced to the U.S. Constitution and based on its writings. The fourteenth amendmend is a very important amendment that does not concern those except for the black slaves and the White men descended from the original colonists. There is a double standard expressed. Learn it. This is how they get around our laws and manifest destiny is still alive in their interpretation of the law. Our status as Hawaii nationals is peerage to the original colonists; why give it up to become dependant people subjugated to their lords and masters when we are already masters in our own country? Do you want to trade in our treasured hulu to the eagle's long feathers? Do you really want to give up you citizenship to your country as a first class citizen to become wards of the U.S.? Why accept the crumbs when you own the whole pie? Why not be confident of who you are as a Hawai'i National?
  • e Kawika, The AKaKa Bill creates a Hawaiian Governing Entity. A Hawaiian Governing Enitity with no powers of a government to make laws. Not a Hawaiian nation in any way or form. The Constitution of the United Sates does not grant Congress to recognize our Kanaka Maoli Hawaii as Native Americans. Native American recognition can only be granted to the Indiian Nations of the American continent. Our people are not an Indian Nation of the American coninent. We are not the Indigenous people of the American continent. The best advise I can share with you is to read Public Law 103-150 and understand how that Apology applys to you as a Hawaiian. Sovereignty, Independence and nationhood first begins with you. The AKaKa BILL is just another illegal act by the United States since Jan 16, 1893 when they invaded the Hawaiian Kingdom, my nation. I am not a citizen of the United States. I am a Hawaiian Nationalist of the Hawaiian Kingdom by document.
  • "The Akaka Bill is an attempt to gain federal recognition for native hawaiians from America, creating a self governing hawaiian nation within a nation...simillar to indian tribes on the mainland."

Theoretically that is what they want us to believe BUT if you read the words a HUGE red flag is that we will fall under the Department of Interior from the 110th Congress May 10, 2007:

    http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s110-310

    Excerpt:

"SEC. 6. NATIVE HAWAIIAN INTERAGENCY COORDINATING GROUP.

    (a) Establishment- In recognition that Federal programs authorized to address the conditions of Native Hawaiians are largely administered by Federal agencies other than the Department of the Interior, there is established an interagency coordinating group to be known as the `Native Hawaiian Interagency Coordinating Group'.

    (b) Composition- The Interagency Coordinating Group shall be composed of officials, to be designated by the President, from--

    (1) each Federal agency that administers Native Hawaiian programs, establishes or implements policies that affect Native Hawaiians, or whose actions may significantly or uniquely impact Native Hawaiian resources, rights, or lands; and

    (2) the Office.

    (c) Lead Agency-

    (1) IN GENERAL- The Department of the Interior shall serve as the lead agency of the Interagency Coordinating Group.

    (2) MEETINGS- The Secretary shall convene meetings of the Interagency Coordinating Group."

The Department of Interior has a history of treating some tribes poorly. There has also been money mismanagement and abuse and chances are they will treat Hawaiians the same... or worse.

"Kau Inoa is a registry of hawaiians. Their purpose is to collect contact info on hawaiians all over the world so that they can keep us informed of issues affecting hawaiians and let us know when important issues are being voted upon."

That is what they would like us to believe spending millions to try to get us to "sign our name"

    http://www.kauinoa.org/

However what they do not fully disclose (and I believe in full disclosure) is that by signing one's name they may amend the by-laws without our knowledge and be able to transfer title without our consent. I do not know how some people can condone that....

    http://www.kauinoa.org/faq.php

It is no secret that OHA is behind it but they have a fiduciary duty to us. A fiduciary acts in a position of and confidence for another. The fiduciary owes complete allegiance to the principal. That is the fiduciary (OHA) owes COMPLETE allegiance to US. They are supposed to be LOYAL and OBEDIENT to us as well. However they do not. They want to try to shove this paperwork down our throat to try to "speed up" the transfer of title WITHOUT our knowledge and/or our consent. You see... everything dealing with real property MUST be in writing. They KNOW this and that is why they want us to SIGN.

To me to try to deceive is doing Hawaiians wrong so I highly suggest that other oiwi not place their name just so that OHA can use it to try to transfer title without your knowledge. I would urge other oiwi to seriously think about removing their name if they have "placed" it.

I urge all oiwi who have already "placed" their name to send a CERTIFIED letter to

    Hawaii Maoli
    P.O. Box 1135
    Honolulu, Hawai'i 96807

and TELL them to remove your name.

Also note that the mailing address is a POST OFFICE BOX. That in and of itself is an epitome of shady.
  • Aloha no e Kawika,
Pono has reccomended excellent sites-There is a wealth of knowledge to be found on all. Also, if you get a chance to see the film "Noho Hewa" by Ke'ala Kelly, she does a wonderful job explaining why & how the Akaka Bill will take away our power as a soverign people. Our kupuna were against the USA occupation of the Kingdom of Hawaii from the time of the overthrow and by agreeing to Akaka Bill I believe we will loose our legal rights as a soverign government. I give you much respect for asking these important questions and educating yourself on these issues. Maika'i!

this is where you can view the updated "KAKA" bill please notice in the begining it turns Hawaiians into Native Indians or " USA" this is HEWA ! Since we were NEVER PART OF da USA!, what this BILL does do is forgive USA for all the WRONG IT HAS DONE TO OUR AINA & KANAKA MAOLI and prevents us from anymore protesting .
  • aloha e Kawika,

kua inoa and the akaka bill both are to be used together to take our Sovereignty away from what "OUR KAPUNA'S" fought so hard to put in place.... Please go to these sites to read up & LEARN :)
