I mention Democrats because Inouye and Akaka are Democrats. Also Abercrombie and his land and power grabs. Recently especially with him resigning to run for governor but both are cut from the same cloth.
I have lived and breathed O'ahu though and yes it is extremely tough on one's mind, body, and soul. Why some would continue to vote for Akaka, Inouye, and Abercrombie still does not make sense.
I think it's because the media has convinced Hawaiians that "Democrats = for the poor" while "Republicans = for the rich" then of course some men who were/are Republicans ruined it by doing disgraceful things so some Hawaiians reject Republicans in favor of Democrats.
IMHO those Hawaiians will continue to vote for Democrats. Thus shooting themselves in the foot which is an endless circle of violence against themselves. I think that some Hawaiians are masochists.

I know that you are far far away from home, however, one should know that the Republicans were at cause for the Akaka Bill. I know cause I'm there as to why the Dems labored the human condition for the akaka Bill is beyond my perception. But you are right about the self mutalation it's painful. For those of us on Oahu 24/7!!!
It's another to complain about the Akaka Bill after voting for the creators of the Akaka Bill (i.e. Democrats.)
Yet Some Hawaiians continue to vote for Democrats knowing that they created these policies.
I don't know about other people but if I was beaten I would stop wanting to be beaten. At some point at least.
It's like some Hawaiians are machochists.:

This is true, many Hawaiians attended to this, including those of us that were in opposition. As a matter of fact the creator of Maoli World also attended these many many meetings.
He is telling the truth 'sheep' or not which is what was expected of us in these meetings to behave as such, it was difficult to oppose the Akaka Bill out of pocket and from our own free will.
The question is although opposers of today (thank goodness) need to pay attention the the state's Sustainable Plan 2050 that is where the Akaka Bill and the military marries under the Bill of Rights given that one attended Bumpy' 'Social Responsibility Investment' meetings.
Sustainable education in the DOE has been around in Waianae thanks to Lucy Gay and her environmental group with welfare mothers and HECO.
I strongly feel that frontline protestors need to pay attention to the acceptance of Nuclear Fall Out within ones environment (communities). Military/Nuclear, military/nuclear, military/nuclear....2050 sustainable plan for Kanaka Maoli mmmm....Kaohi
