  • Happy White Supremacist Independence Day!

Another year rolls around and I am once again subjected to the hierarchical schemes that try to convince me to trade in my humanity and compassion for patriotism. I think about all the crimes against humanity committed under that famous flag and once again I wonder: What does this holiday celebrate? A group of rich, privileged, European men deciding that the land they stole should be 'independent' from Europe, as if somehow without the precious Europeans the land we stand on did not already have its own sovereignty. Why would it not? Like so much in White European “American” culture, this farce of July excuses and even celebrates European crimes against humanity at the expense of ignoring the dignity of the Indigenous People on this stolen continent. What gave the “founding fathers” the right to declare themselves an independent nation on land belonging to people who were already independent in and of themselves from Europe and European influence? Why are all of the crimes against Indigenous people ignored, downplayed, or even celebrated? These are questions the average White “American” does not think about, simply because he or she does not have to. This is the backbone of American culture: Having pride in a White Supremacist history and contemporary system of racism while ignoring crimes against and accomplishments of Non-Whites through holidays and biased textbooks. We are taught all about the fathers of America, how they bravely fought for freedom, how they valiantly confronted the oppression by the redcoats, and on this day in particular, how they made a magical piece of paper that granted freedom and independence that still lives on today. I often get told that I am only free to spew my “anti-American” sentiments because I live in this country that happens to have a piece of paper that allows me too. What if that piece of paper was destroyed? Would I have no more freedom? Am I only free because the country where I live says I am? No. I am free not because of where I was born or where I live, but because I was born and because I live. The declaration of independence even says that these truths are indeed “self-evident”, yet most Americans seem to think that it is evident only as long as their government maintains a magical piece of paper. Americans also love to say that they are the greatest nation on earth, that they are the strongest, the most advanced, the most free, and not to mention the most blessed by their god. This arrogant attitude is of course a logical outcome of massive propaganda designed to make us trade in our logic and empathy for blind faith in whatever our government decides to do, a.k.a. “patriotism.” If we were indeed the greatest nation on earth, we could at least see that all the wealth we have in our country is a result of stealing it from others. The toys at McDonalds, the fancy car, the nice shoes, designer purses, designer underwear, designer everything, all these little petty material things we have and treasure so much, while the sweatshop employees across the ocean don’t make ends meet for their families. Not to mention that America is still colonizing all over the world, still violating the independence of nations all over the globe. Two wars that have cost over a million lives have been waged because of the deaths of three thousand people on 9/11. This is certainly not a just war by any means. America is also responsible for the economic policies that force the poor Indigenous people of “Mexico” and “Central America” to cross the four hundred miles of desert over the border to seek economic justice. And when they get here, they are treated horribly, many times worse than they were in their home country. Instead of seeing this massive wave of migration as the outcome of these unjust economic policies, it is seen as an “invasion” and the Mexican and Central American people are seen as criminals trying to steal American jobs. For all of her two hundred years, America has committed crime upon crime against humanity and never has truly amended. In conclusion, I’d like to say, don’t be ignorant, and don’t have blind faith in this corrupt system.

Oh, and have a happy white supremacist independence day!
  • Great article telling it like it is. They are still nutured in the doctrines of Manifest Destiny brought on by the Roman Catholic Church and the Jewish faith. Christians don't know whether to follow the teachings of Christ or the Jewish faith. "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" seems more profitable than "turning the other cheek", eh? It's more convenient to quote from the Old Testament (Jewish) than it is from the New Testament (Christian) and follow the base human reactions.

U.S. WASP racist-based propaganda and brainwashing society is enforced through education and the multi-media. They tell you how to think and to act. Don't fret, there are other countries that do the same thing; but for a country of independant thinkers, the U.S. Americans are lazy sheeple that learn compliance and have others do the thinking in their name.

The Christian bible-bangers quote from their own varied bible and interpret it according to how they want to. There are hundreds of Christian sects quoting their own bible. Which interpretation takes precedence? Which bible version is the real one? Which one is everyone following? It's easy to eliminate the verses one doesn't understand or like. So which Christian Church is teaching the correct words of God? How do you know what Christ is saying if you are a Christian, a follower of Christ?

What did the U.S. liberate Cuba from? Their country? What did the U.S. do for the Phillipines that they not already have; they were civilized and many were Christians before the invasion. What Christian religious sect did he want to enforce on them?

The U.S. soldier is an "advance guard of liberty and justice, of law and order, and of peace and happiness”? "...to civilize and Chritianize" another country; to be evangelists militant and triumphant? Is that what the U.S. America is all about? And for whom, really?

This is more likely why the U.S. tries to suppress what happened in Hawai'i because their actions contradict what they say they stand for. Hawai'i was civilized by its own standards and that of the international community; being the first non-white nation to be accepted in the Family of Nations, front-runner of the League of Nations and the United Nations. Christianity was practiced by the majority of the Hawai'i citizens for seventy years prior to the U.S. invasion and occupation.

Democracy? Many don't understand that a Constitutional Monarchy similar to United Kingdom is what Hawai'i has with a bi-cameral legislation. We even elected two of our monarchs as Head of State. Prior to the U.S. invasion and belligerent occupation, we had freedoms of religion, speech, of movement, habeus corpus, human rights, everything the U.S. professes to defend and more.

What the U.S. liberated Hawai'i from was it's independence, freedoms, democracy, liberty, resources, lands, country, nation-state, self-determination, sovereignty, a voice in our government, peace and happiness! In lieu of that, they gave us their racist version of those freedoms, democracy, and liberty; and the WASP mainstream society promoting their dogmas of manifest destiny.

Right on, U.S.A., you should be proud of yourselves! Nothing like taking great pride in shame and dishonor in your country, eh?

    A proud Hawai'i national,

    Tane
  • Put Away the Flags
    by Howard Zinn

On this July 4, we would do well to renounce nationalism and all its symbols: its flags, its pledges of allegiance, its anthems, its insistence in song that God must single out America to be blessed

Is not nationalism — that devotion to a flag, an anthem, a boundary so fierce it engenders mass murder — one of the great evils of our time, along with racism, along with religious hatred?

These ways of thinking — cultivated, nurtured, indoctrinated from childhood on — have been useful to those in power, and deadly for those out of power

National spirit can be benign in a country that is small and lacking both in military power and a hunger for expansion (Switzerland, Norway, Costa Rica and many more).. But in a nation like ours — huge, possessing thousands of weapons of mass destruction — what might have been harmless pride becomes an arrogant nationalism dangerous to others and to ourselves

Our citizenry has been brought up to see our nation as different from others, an exception in the world, uniquely moral, expanding into other lands in order to bring civilization, liberty, democracy

    That self-deception started early

When the first English settlers moved into Indian land in Massachusetts Bay and were resisted, the violence escalated into war with the Pequot Indians. The killing of Indians was seen as approved by God, the taking of land as commanded by the Bible.. The Puritans cited one of the Psalms, which says: “Ask of me, and I shall give thee, the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the Earth for thy possession”

When the English set fire to a Pequot village and massacred men, women and children, the Puritan theologian Cotton Mather said: “It was supposed that no less than 600 Pequot souls were brought down to hell that day”

On the eve of the Mexican War, an American journalist declared it our “Manifest Destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence” After the invasion of Mexico began, The New York Herald announced: “We believe it is a part of our destiny to civilize that beautiful country”

It was always supposedly for benign purposes that our country went to
war.. We invaded Cuba in 1898 to liberate the Cubans, and went to war in the Philippines shortly after, as President McKinley put it, “to civilize and Christianize” the Filipino people

As our armies were committing massacres in the Philippines (at least 600,000 Filipinos died in a few years of conflict), Elihu Root, our secretary of war, was saying: “The American soldier is different from all other soldiers of all other countries since the war began.. He is the advance guard of liberty and justice, of law and order, and of peace and happiness”

We see in Iraq that our soldiers are not different. They have, perhaps against their better nature, killed thousands of Iraq civilians.. And some soldiers have shown themselves capable of brutality, of torture

Yet they are victims, too, of our government’s lies

How many times have we heard President Bush tell the troops that if they die, if they return without arms or legs, or blinded, it is for “liberty,” for “democracy”?

One of the effects of nationalist thinking is a loss of a sense of proportion. The killing of 2,300 people at Pearl Harbor becomes the justification for killing 240,000 in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The killing of 3,000 people on Sept.. 11 becomes the justification for killing tens of thousands of people in Afghanistan and Iraq

And nationalism is given a special virulence when it is said to be blessed by Providence.. Today we have a president, invading two countries in four years, who announced on the campaign trail in 2004 that God speaks through him

We need to refute the idea that our nation is different from, morally superior to, the other imperial powers of world history

We need to assert our allegiance to the human race, and not to any one nation
