  • "The Bishop museum collection contains several examples of this powerful artistic statement, including the one shown here. This beautiful flag quilt was a wedding gift bestowed by Her Majesty Queen Lili‘uokalani. Its pattern makes an especially strong statement, as the four small flags in the center of the quilt have their canton in the bottom left corner, which displays the flags as being flown upside down, the common nautical symbol of a nation in distress."
  • ALOHA Kaua, e Sandy, Queen Liliuokalani made the Quilt. Not with the state flags, but with the National Flags of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Look carefully at the Flags below and above the Crown, as you will noticed that she made the Flags in the Upside Down Position. The International symbol of Distress. Also noticed that she placed the Flags in the Hawaiian Tradition of being Crossed, being of Kapu. I'm not sure of what the symbols are on the left and right side of the Crown. Presently this Flag is on display at Bishop Museum.
For many years as I have carried the Flag of the Hawaiian Kingdom nation Upside Down. Many Hawaiians have spoken against me doing this saying that I should have more respect for the Flag of Hawaii.
So when I first saw the story about the Queen's Quilt, I knew that what I was doing with the Flag of the Hwaiian Kingdom is PONO.
I'm happy that you saw this Quilt. As it bring you closer to knowing of the history of the Flag of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
Long Live The Hawaiian Kingdom, o Pomai
