My great-grandmother, Po'oui Kanialama, the daughter of Kaohua'ino (who was named by Queen Emma) was born in July 11, 1866. Uncle Wilcox and my grandfather- another namesake David Kalaunuiohua Kahanu "KK" Kahaunaele (whose mother is Elizabeth Becky Kipola Kahanu, daughter of Alice and David "Tutu Man" Kahanu) are of the same generation.What is happening at Kawaiahaʻo now ALREADY happened to our ʻohana right before the 1920's. Uncle Wilcox (about 4 yrs old) and his grandma Alice Kaleionālani Miller went to Kawaiahaʻo to visit this David Kalaunuiohua Kahanu and could not find his grave for it was dug up and moved - with no advocacy, information, respect and care on the Church's part.We need to tune in to our naʻau. We don't know if this Kupuna Kahanu was part of the iwi that were dug up to build Likeke Hall (which is the hall that was recently demolished to make way for this new multipurpose hall), the iwi sent to Mōʻiliʻili cemetery and RE-dug up when that cemetery was sold, and returned to Kawaiahaʻo and reinterned on the property (Halealoha folks did that reburial) near the road to the right of the church (don't know the name of the road). No names there, but the burial mound looks like an ahu. This Kupuna, could also be part of the imprisoned and caged iwi in the basement of the church. We don't know but, maybe we'll get the messages. Pay close attention to our naʻau, pule to our kupuna and pale yourself (paʻakai/lāʻī/ʻolena/ʻohe) from the kaumaha unleashed by the Church, it's leaders and parishioners. The resulting kaumaha that we feel are extensions of the kupuna. They are communicating with us and we gotta take action. I strongly urge you to stop the unearthing of na iwi until you hold...... ho'oponopono with the descendants and other 'ohana that will be affected by the removal of the iwi. The concerns of the 'ohana is foremost over the construction of a building. The people are the church; not a building.
