have traveled to Samoa a few times now, the first time I caught a ferry from Upolu island to Savaii island, which was when i noticed a few other smaller islands doting the sea scape, they being Manono and Apolima.Manono in particular captured my imagination, whilst being larger then Apolima, is an island so small that it has no roads and so no cars, no restaurants, a few small shops selling basic things and with it the welcome of its local inhabitants.Traditional va’a’s (canoes) are used daily by the men to spear fish swimming through the reefs. No dogs are allowed on the island and so as you could imagine it is a peaceful and serene place, where every attempt to retain it’s natural environment is being taken.Manono is only 20mins or so by ferry from Upolu and presents the visitor with a casual walk of a few hours to circle the entire island, there is much more to Manono, but i think you will have to find that out for your selves!
