My Hilo Grandpa

My maternal grandfather: Charles DeSilva aka Carlos DeSilva. (Pukiki and popolo.) Son of Ernesto And Luisa (Dias) DeSilva (great granddaughter of Augusto Dias) of Hilo. I've never met him because he died before I was born but his nephew and my cousin Paul DeSilva (pukiki and popolo) told me that he was one of the cool DeSilvas: Smart, kind, and humble. He was also a hermit of sorts. I can see where I get that from LOL....My mother is his daughter (known as "Jo Jo" in case any of my relatives see me here they'll know who I'm referring to) and I am his granddaughter. His nephews are Paul DeSilva (pukiki and popolo) (he pretty cool considering but at least he stopped writing those pilau letters in the papers about Hawaiians because well all Hawaiians are my cousins so I asked him how he can write about Hawaiians that way considering my Hilo Grandma was Hawaiian and I also asked him, "How do you think your cousins who are Hawaiian feel when they read what you wrote about them? How do you think they FEEL?" He has since stopped writing those pilau letters in the papers on account of me asking him this seemingly trivial question.) and Kihei DeSilva (oiwi) ( to me he's cool and humble two qualities that I admire and value greatly because well through their grandmother Luisa Dias the DeSilvas in Hilo, parts of California, and throughout are descendants of Augusto Dias, one of three Portuguese men credited with the invention of the ukulele, so to know that they are mo'opuna of Augusto Dias and to be humble about it and not walk with their nose in their air... is unique but then it's easy to be arrogant. It's very difficult to be humble.) Of course I value humility while I am repelled by arrogance which is how my Hilo Grandpa was: Smart, kind, and humble.
