Homelani

Some people ask me why I like going to Homelani Cemetery. They tell me that I am morbid but I'm not. Instead I want to run to my Hilo Grandma. She used to take care of us during the summers in Hilo and Keaukaha. It's where she took care of us and fed us aku palu, ake, oio, pipipi, raw crabs, poi, etc so of course I want to run to my Hilo Grandma.Whenever I go to Hilo it's one of the first places I go to. Even as a child my mother and Hilo Grandma used to take us to buy flowers to leave on our relatives' graves to show respect so to this day that is what I do. We go to the Hilo Farmers' Market downtown. I miss Hilo.Sometimes I like to RUN to Homelani Cemetery when I experience maha'oi people on the East Coast and they can be REALLY maha'oi LOL Pushy and rude so I like to run to Homelani Cemetery to run to my Hilo Grandma.I visit her, my Hilo Grandpa, and my maternal great grandfather, John Moniz. His headstone is somewhere in the foreground of this picture.I also visit my other great grandfather Ernesto DeSilva's grave. I know some people never made a connection between "DeSilva" and "Robbins." That is because names can be deceiving. However I will be naming all of my imaginary babies Hawaiian first names. That is a given LOL.... If I have a boy his name will be Ikaika. Short and succinct... without being rude. Just like how I like.My mother didn't want me to take pictures at Homelani but it helps seeing it because that way I can remember exactly how it looks when I am on the East Coast. Under normal conditions I would never take pics of our kupuna but I miss my Hilo Grandma and that is where she is.
