Hey Lisette! Saw that you live in BKLYN. Me too! I'm an illustrator living in Williamsburg and looking to contact other Kanaks in the area for collaboration, friendship, talk story, etc.
Sounds great. Looking at the pics on your profile - looks like you have a lot to do with the "film."
If so, I'm impressed.
I'm in awe of those who are able to make good film, or who are so dedicated to the medium to make it a life work.
I tried one time - in 1983 - "The 'Aina Remains" was its name - which was a video about my community - Pauoa - 1) the land provides us with housing (discussing some the architectural styles on Pacific Heights in Honolulu) , 2) the land provides us with food (Francisco Marin was instrumental in bringing many new varieties of food to Hawai'i), 3) the land is a stage for our rituals (we re-enacted the planting of the Queen's garden at Uluhaimalama) , and 4) the land preserves our history (the petroglyphs in Nu'uanu).
On the other hand, I have more footage on the construction of the voyaging canoe, Hawai'iLoa, that took place from 1990 to 1993 - but a final product hasn't arrived yet. Guess I'm saving this project for my old age.
