Delicate Questions of CA Community Organizing

There was a time when, in my enthusiasm, I did not understand many nuances, and was a "fool rushing in where angels fear to tread." Now, I may not understand all the nuances, but I at least know they do exist -- often where and when I least expect it -- and I'm a little more careful where I put my feet, and try to remember to check to see if I have permission to go there! I bring this up because this bears upon the whole topic of community organizing here in California, when Maoli issues are involved. Here's an example: Let's say someone comes over from the continental U.S. and does something which has a very negative impact in your community. Let's say it's something so bad and shameful that you want people back in that person's home town to know about it. You're an activist, and you want people back in that region to organize something to call attention to this problem, on the perpetrator's home turf. What do you feel should be the proper considerations in creating actions that might have an impact on the community perception of local Maoli living in that community? What are the better or best ways to coordinate with the people there? What are the worst? What is acceptable (generally) and what is not? Ideas, thoughts, experience, all welcome please. I ask because a request for action has been made, and it would be good to know your thoughts. Mahalo.

  • A Promise
    Ua mau ke ea oka aina ika pono...The life of the land is perpetuated by those who live in righteousness.
    And again we receive this promise in MATTHEW 5:5). Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth"
    Allways remember;
    Meekness does not mean weakness! It does not mean we must retreat from our principles. It does not involve the
    surrender of ones rights. Meek men and women of of our ancestors showed firm resolve, courage, conviction and strength. So must we. The phrase "inherit the earth" is a figure of speech which denotes the highest of blessings. These blessings are realized when the righteous enjoy the good things of life which the wicked often overlook in their pursuit of whatever. Also there is the peace, security and hope in Ke Akua !! Pule for this person, and all will be Pono.
