Because it is very difficult to obtain niho palaoa legally, or large pieces of bone fitting for the size of a lei niho palaoa (in this state, anyway), I hope to carve one out of an olopua piece my father gave to me.
However, are there pilikia with using olopua in this way? Also, are there any oli I could say before, during and after while I work on the piece?
Any kokua is greatly appreciated. Mahalo!

E 'Anake Kalei, mahalo nui no kou mana'o. I should have figured to nana i ke kumu for this kind of information. While I have already started the cutting for the piece, I will definitely be on the lookout for 'iliahi for another niho palaoa. That would be a significant piece to create.
