Where do we go from here?

Where do students see themselves after graduation? How would they contribute to build our nation now? Will they continue with their pro-active stance and concerns about the community? How much are they willing to do in realizing our dreams and goals? These are a few of the questions that keep popping in our heads as we attempt to "pass the baton". The various fields are wide open and looking for the young ones to fill the shoes of proud Hawaii Nationals whether it's mahi'ai, teachers, bankers, politics, marine biologists, scientists, mathmaticians, business administrators, mechanics, entrepreneurs, journalists, etc. At the same time one should preserve our culture and heritage and remain good stewards of the land while being active in protecting our islands from abuse. We often take many things for granted and rely on others to do the actions needed in maintaining a better quality of life. It always starts personally with ourself. Do we have the stamina and the tenacity to go forward as our kupuna have done in the past? We need to change the dynamics that we have been placed in and not buy into the WASP mentality and values. Hawaiians have always been a progressive people and philosphically maintained the attitude to adopt, adapt, and be adept with new things to enhance themselves and way of life. It's using critical thinking and making the best of their surroundings; using it to the fullest and zeal. Hawaiians, Kanaka maoli/maori have always been industrial people and great survivors who creatively use their wits and knowledge. When one sees their work of arts and crafts and utilitarian objects, it reinforces who they are and what they have accomplished. We have much to be proud of as a people. Like I say, There are so few of us in the world that God must have loved us because He didn't want to give the world too much of a good thing! Where do we go from here? We begin with ourselves and make the right choices for our benefit and that of our country.
