Growing Numbers of Kanaka Maoli Oppose the Akaka Bill.

When the Akaka Bill was first introduced to the public in 2000, an over-whelming majority of those that attended the ONLY hearing on O'ahu, objected to it. Back in Washington, Inouye, Akaka, Ambercrombie, and Mink did not state that majority of Hawai'i rejected the proposed bill. To counter those opposed to it; the senators wooed the Danners, OHA, HCCA, and other Hawaiian organizations to support the bill. These few elite then went to work in convincing the Hawaiians to accept, comply, and support the bill. They used all the tricks in the book to accomplish this task; from terroristic tactics to pecuniary reasons of securing funding and with lies to cloud the truth of rammifications involving the bill. This hard sell made many Hawaiians research and examine the bill more closely and comparing the U.S. history with the native Americans as well as international repercussions. The more Hawaiians researched and discovered the truth; the more sinister the bill appeared. Just the contradictions within the bill itself made it more disingenuous and not reconciliation as it professes to do. Today, more Hawaiians are opposed to the bill through intelligent research and awareness of its history and the legal rammifications pertaining to it. Being shut out from discussion and decision-making, many are asking for hearings throughout all the islands so their voices can go on record of where they stand on this bill and what they would like to see happen. Everyday there are more people against the Akaka Bill when they learn the facts and the lies written into it. More people have taken the time to learn more about it and when they find out the truth; they oppose the bill rather than be gullible and accepting what is being pushed forward for the bill by those elite who would profit more from it than the people in general.
