New proposal for responsible, submerged, open ocean aquaculture - not genetically engineeredIndigo Seafood has assembled a team of like-minded conservationists/aquaculturists to implement an offshore aquaculture company for the purpose of promoting the aquaculture of moi (Polydactylus sexfilis), a fish highly esteemed by traditional Hawaiian fishers. Moi have been fished almost to the brink of non-existence in Hawaii. Seafood consumption has been rapidly increasing and has depleted many Hawaiian food fish species to dangerously low levels. With over 35 years of experience in aquaculture research, including its potential effects on the environment, we are also very mindful of the responsibility that we have to preserve the resources with which we hope to be entrusted. We are confident that with the right team this can be done with unparalleled quality and safety. Using recent technological advances, even some made within the past year, will allow us to provide the assurance necessary that each area of concern usually associated with aquaculture is addressed competently and thoroughly. Please come with your thoughts and questions as we look forward to working within the community. Asking community help in implementing this step to preserve precious resources.NOTE: Picture of moi from State Records:http://www.hawaiifishingnews.com/records_d.cfm?ID=60
