  • HE REO AROHA is a two-person performance that combines drama and music, with songs in both English and Maori. It is written by playwrights Miria George and Jamie McCaskill, with Jamie performing alongside actor/musician Kali Kopae.

From an early age Kaia had trained to sing, groomed for greatness. Pascoe sang, with his father, all the while working on the fishing boats. One night, their voices meet and create a love that remains with them for a lifetime. Kaia leaves, for Europe, for privilege and prestige. Pascoe has another path, following in his father’s footsteps, a boat of his own, a life of hard work. However their lives do not appear to be all that they seem, all that they want. What gets them through is music, what will get them together is love. He Reo Aroha is a story of love and music.

The show is presented by Tim Bostock Productions with The ARTS at Marks Garage, and is supported by the National Endowment of the Arts and Creative New Zealand. Tawata Productions is a kaupapa Maori theatre company, established in 2001 by internationally acclaimed writer Hone Kouka, based in Wellington, Aotearoa (New Zealand). Tawata Productions is dedicated to presenting the very best of Maori theatre throughout Aotearoa and the world beyond. Tawata Productions and Hone Kouka have shared the Maori voice before in Hawaii with tours of Waiora (1999), Woman Far Walking (2004) and The Prophet (2006), all presented by Tim Bostock.
