'O wai kou inoa? What's your name?

Leinani L. Cambra

No hea mai 'oe? Where are you from?

I'm from the island of Oahu. I research my genealogy from my biological side when I can. It's very vast. I'm searching for anyone who is connected to the Nuuhiwa, Kainoapuka, Kaiwa, Kealoha, Kua surnames either by blood or adoption or marriage.

ʻO wai ke ahupuaʻa āu e noho nei? Where do you live?

I live in Kahalu'u.

  • So good to hear from you and by your response, it seems as though you've found what you posted on NHGSoc.  Is Jodie your sister?  The last time I saw her was in Waikiki working as a hostess to a seafood restaurant, I believe right on Kalakaua(?)  Anyway, once she moved to the mainland, soon after that--we never heard anymore from her.

While we were growing up in the church, your mom knew much was expected of her.  Her brother, Paul always took things in stride and his parents were always proud of his efforts.  He was my favorite cousin!  Kanani, on the other hand though younger than Paul and closer to my age--was somewhat distant although she always made me laugh because she seem to see the humor in life.  Although I was suppose to go to McKinley high school too, my parents got a district exception to go to Farrington.  When I look back on those years, your mom was definitely beautiful, popular and talented.  She was a sponsor in the ROTC cadet program in high school and she enjoyed it.  She loved to go to the roller rink and had her own skates and cute outfits to wear on the floor.

I hope you have her pictures you have those pictures and yearbooks. I'm curious and wonder if you know the Karrattis.  As one generation has passed another is reaching out and I'm just connecting with a lot of my mom's cousins--mostly through Facebook.

I'm not sure if you know your mom's adopted parents' ohana but if there's anyone that needs family--it's everybody!  Your mom always admired my mom and I think my mom would get a kick out of her every time they met.  So, friend me and me the rest of my family--your ohana!

    Love you, Cousin Emma

  • Leilani, I'm your mom's cousin from her adopted parents Paul and Nan Karratti.  This is the second time I've seen your post; the first time was on Facebook.  Because of your purpose I didn't think I could help you but since you added some names, I know a Nuuhiwa that worked with my father as security for Kamehameha Schools around the '50s.  Since my dad's retirement in '65, I don't know what happened to him; yet, I met a woman who was a stranger that shared an interesting family name--and it was Nuuhiwa.  After some time, I decided to look her name up on familysearch.org and found that in her line was also a name from my lineage on my father's side, not Karratti which is my mom's maiden name.  Nevertheless, I called a few people about this name being connected to me but this family denied that; so, here's the rest of the story, the woman that told me this name said that this was her mother and the woman I talked to was a Mrs. Hamachi (and I met her in Kaneohe in the Castle Medical Building parking lot and she asked me about my scooter).  I don't know if this is a probable lead but I hope this helps.

Your mom was a firecracker.  She had her ideas about life.  Jodie was the only granddaughter I had ever seen her with after Uncle Paul passed on.  I don't know if her adopted brother Paul can help you but you can find me on Facebook and send a request if you'd like to keep in touch.  Good luck!

  • Hello dear,

How is everything with you, I picked interest on you after going through your short profile and deemed it necessary to write you immediately. I have something very vital to disclose to you, but I found it difficult to express myself here, since it's a public site. Could you please get back to me on my email: lauryn.wake@gmail.com
    for the full details.

    Have a nice day,

    Thanks God bless.
    Miss. Lauryn Wake.
