ISLANDS ON THE EDGE OF TIME: Palau Revisited

Aloha e Pono,
Mahalo for posting this video. The message is poignant and moving. The need for social justice and true self-determination is clear. The essential valuing of community, people, and culture over dollars, consumerism, and inequitable distribution of resources is plain. I am going to Kenya for 5 months (1/8/10 to 6/5/10)as a volunteer to teach nursing, community health. This video will be a valuable addition to resources I seek that help me to teach social justice, which is a public health imperative, as the American Public Health Association has noted by choosing next year's 2010 theme title: Social Justice, a Public Health Imperative. I have nothing great to offer, I am just a small voice hoping to awaken a consciousness in my nursing students that social justice IS a public health imperative. My dream is that I am a little push to awaken, at least in some of my students, activism and advocacy and valuing of every individual (in fact of our whole earth, and every creature, every small stone, every part of all of this), every culture too. As a role model of mine, Dr. Palafox notes, it is not until we arrive at the moral, spiritual, human awakening that each person is as important as every other that we will achieve elimination of the inequities that lead to disparities in health, and realize healthy years of wonderful fulfilling life for all. Thank you for your generosity is sharing this, and your kindness that I shall I always remember.
