First "Debate"
E 'olelo ana au i keia mea ma ka 'Olelo Haole no ka mea hiki ke "express" i ko'u huhu i ia 'olelo.
So I got into my first online "debate" today concerning the army wants to bring 2,000 troops to Hawai'i on the Honolulu Advertiser website. I left my comments, and some fool "IAm Haole" and another person named "alice" are just another bunch of ignorant people. Alice brought up some good things against my comments, but I admit, I owned up to the ones that were my bad. The other parts, I made sure I proved my point.
The other guy, PLEASE someone give him an education. At first, he seemed like someone who just didn't know things, but after he commented with such rude remarks and cuss words, I know that this was pointless.
"IAm Haole"
hello! hello! is there anyone up there??? get your facts straight moron. your queen was ousted by a coup by here own damn people. the Hawaiians were the wealthiest class at the time. you need us more than we need you. you can't even grow enough taro to make poi for all who want it. you're importing 40% of the stuff. you can't even keep your roads fixed. your way = FAIL
Me
Queen Lili'uokalani was not ousted by "her" people...the Big 5 were NOT Hawaiians, they were American Businessmen. We can't grow taro because we have 26 American Military bases her that are on Ceded Lands. The Univ. of Hawai'i at Manoa and the Honolulu International Airport are also on Ceded Lands. Ceded lands, if you know your facts, are the lands that was owned by Kamehameha III and was given to the Hawaiian people, yes the Native Hawaiians, but was illegally transferred to the government when we illegally became a territory and then state. Hawaiians were given the 3rd class lands after the Mahele in the 1800s not by choice because the Americans thought they could just get the first class land to themselves.
When Plantation Workers came to Hawai'i we lost all our lo'i kalo and fish ponds for rice patties and military training sites. You know the Honolulu Int'l Airport and Pearl Harbor? Yeah, they used to be used for fish ponds and lo'i kalo (taro patches). You know how the U.S. got Pearl Harbor? They held my King, King Kalakaua, at gun point, which is why it was called thus, the Bayonet Constitution.
So don't tell me that WE need YOU! And don't say we overthrew our own kingdom...we lived here for 2000 years, 100 generations, and we lived perfectly fine. We started dying off because outsiders brought diseases and rodents. How long has Americans lived in North America? About two centuries, about 100th the amount of time that we have been here! Who was there before Americans? Yes, the Native American Indians who were also unjustly robbed of their land and culture the same as Hawaiians were, but at much larger expense. The only reasons we are importing so many things is because our own state doesn't know how to handle things. They don't share the same values as the Hawaiian system does. Our roads are horrible because too much people live here so I can understand how it's hard to keep up with that. So again, don't tell me that we're horrible...ignorant non-Hawaiians shunned us and put a horrible, un-real stereotype upon us.
"Alice"
Kaipo..you are full of misinformation hon. Wishing the past was the way you wnat it does not make it so. Please go to the State archives and begin reading. Almost nothing you say is remotely accurate.
try with the 1892 revolt..led by native Hawaiians against Queen Lil. or start by reading about Kalakaua..the real man, not your mythical being. Ceded lands were to support public services for all residents. Just as they do now. You added the racial element..not the native hawaiians of the 19th century.
*sigh*...i can breath again, but damn ignorant, arrogant people!
