I thought I'd relay my countering this piece of s@#! and hope you can glean from these the arguments to use against such trash that they spout some are recent and some are throughout the years:Kenneth R. Conklin, the ultracrepidarian critic. The spinmaster is at it again; spewing his venomous criticisms against the Hawaiians. If he honestly researches all the documents and exercise critical thinking, he may come up with a truer picture of Hawaiian History. This newcomer to the islands uses selective memoirs and promotes revised history to empower his somewhat lop-sided version of what occurred here in Hawaii. Tibet vs Hawaii hits very close to the truth and it alarms him and his cohorts that are trying to preserve the myths in protecting the USA's interests in Hawaii as they have in their own country for over 180 years. In truth, they do not want to give up Hawaii and their interests here. This personal imposition disturbs them so much that they will say anything to maintain the status quo which keeps them in power. Their insistence to their lies persistently will not change the truth nor create their lies to become truth. Conklin was born and raised on the mainland, programed and conditioned there. Hawaii's issues are unique from what goes on within the contiguous 48 states and cannot be applied the same way. The hidden truth is revealed and cannot be dismissed. The only thing we agree on is that we are against the seditious Akaka Bill when the Hawaiian Kingdom still exists, albeit under US belligerent occupation. Who knows more about our history than we who have experienced it here in Hawaii throughout the many generations prior to the US invasion and up to the present day....................Once Again the Ultracrepidarian Critic Raises His Perverted Head. Here we have a foreign settler that professes to know more about Hawai'i's history than the people who actually come from Hawai'i. He rewrites our history and does a ballerina-spin in his tutu woven with his Boston-made yarn. This presents a battle of wills from perceptions and interpretation of concepts one has been raised with. His education is limited to what he reads in books and documents that can support his arguments. His affilliation with direct descendants of the traitors and conspirators bolster his arguments with their selective version of events and his yellow journalistic tactics to deride any opposition to his thwarted facts are most evident. With Conklin, we, too, are faced with the concern of his ignorance or blatant lies. Distorting facts and total fabrication is obvious as well as withholding facts to enforce his arguments. His endeavor to kill the Akaka Bill is in accord with many of us but his reasoning and arguments are on the opposite side of the scale. He's emboldened to spout his myths brazonly while knowing most U.S. Americans will unknowingly side with his rhetoric. This self-aggrandizement of being the champion of the patriotic U.S. American fits his profile as a blind patriot with little substance.Conklin will do well in stating things in a more correct light without the snide remarks that incite people to angrily react to his words. Robert Wuhl stated a very real observation regarding U.S. American history: "The stories that made up America (are) the stories that America made up." and "...when the legend becomes fact; print the legend." We can see this manifested in Conklin's account of what occurred in Hawai'i from the U.S. conspiracy, invasion, and occupation, annexation, and statehood.Professional skeptic, Michael Shermer, says, "Humans tend to convince ourselves to believe: We over-value the 'hits' that support our beliefs, and discounts the more numerous 'misses'." I am certain that this is what Ken Conklin is greviously guilty of through exaggeration and distortion. His mislaid emphasis colors his bias within his arguments he employs to strengthen his third-hand information. He has made many incorrect statements and spins a fancy tale in relating the facts.Conklin believes facts should fit into his imperfect accounts of what occurred to whitewash his country's guilt and erase the shame and dishonor it has self-imposed on itself. Paraphrasing other people's words doesn't help him make his points; thus, we shouldn't rely on Ken Conklin's account either, as much of what he says are a hodge-podge of nonsense. It will do better if one does their own research and get to know how the people of that time felt about what was going on. What is important is what the people in Hawaii thought of it at that time; since it involved them directly.I won't debunk the contrived historical account given by Conklin since it is riddled by numerous errors and would be too lengthy in this writing to address. I will say that Slade Gorton and his fellow objectors felt betrayed by Inouye (whom I don't care for either) and were concerned that the "...logical consequences would be total independence." Inouye pronounced to Congress that the Hawaiians were loyal U.S. Americans and would not seek independence. There was no talk of it used to demand a race-based government handouts and to support a secessionist movement during the passage of the Apology Bill. The concern was that the Hawaiians would seek total independence and the de-occupation of the U.S. Under the circumstances, it would not be secession; we would be seeking de-occupation by the U.S. A.The Akaka Bill is a contrived version of the sovereign nation of Hawai'i as perceived by U.S. Americans to fit the character akin to the Native Americans. Mr. Conklin should get his facts straight before posturing his own errant interpretations. He is printing the myth as fact; the stories that America made up!TaneHawaiiReporter.com reports the real news, and prints all editorials submitted, even if they do not represent the viewpoint of the editors, as long as they are written clearly. Send editorials to mailto:Malia@HawaiiReporter.com...........Aloha cuz:Your right. This 'okole hi settler from Massachusetts left out a lot of facts to strengthen his arguments. Interesting to note that Japan balked at the US actions and privately condemned the US but the Western countries over-rode Japans sentiments. Today, Chinese Law Journal recognizes the fact that the Hawaiian Kingdom still exists albeit under the US belligerent occupation. Under Jewish law, that most countries accept as common law, is a signature under duress is ineffectual, null and void. The Queen was under duress signing that abdication but she continued to petition the US for redress. It's worth noting that the queen didn't use her official legal signature, thus she never relinquished her title in abdicating but as one of a private citizen.Conklin conveniently fails to mention the Ku'e Petitions of 1897 signed by the Hawaiian nationals in protest and that the cabinet members were part of the conspiracy and committed high treason. Many Hawaii nationals were forced to sign the oath of allegiance in order to work within Hawaii. Many signed under duress just to feed their families. I would call that extortion. Nonetheless the people protested up till today. Conklinites do have a habit to take facts out of context and twist them to suit their smug ego. It's the wolf crying "sour grapes"! They are truly the ultracrepidarian critics suffering from oneirataxia. To believe this piggish of a man, is to be ailing from synesthesia and antipathy for the truth. His failing arguments and revision of history is scurrilous at best.Tane............angelfire.com is Ken Conklin's website. He relishes in doing a spin on Hawaiian issues to ridicule and discredit Hawaiians. This is his article to obfuscate and perform reverse racism that is infamous of the USA racist WASP society. He, Slom, Zimmerman, Burgess, et. al., have declared war against the Hawaiians because we will not comply to the WASP society and assimilate to it. They distort the facts so no one will believe that the Hawaiian Nation still exists and we are still under the US belligerent occupation and that the USA has violated the laws of occupation.Conklin likes to belittle Hawaiians and has proven himself to be the epitome of an ultracrepidarian critic with his racist WASP mentality who still believes in manifest destiny which is prevalent in their way of thinking even today. He prefers us to accept the myths and hoax as truth. The vacuous argument he uses, presumes that Hawaiians don't marry other Hawaiians but instead marries ONLY other ethnic groups. Thus his aberrant reasoning is the reducing fraction to 1/128 Hawaiian blood is what Hawaiians will have in 50 years. In the 1800s, they made the same ludicrous remarks, hoping that would happen and validate themselves as rightful owners of the Hawaiian Islands. This wishful thinking never materialized. But they insisted on making it appear that way.Of course, this diversive thought ignores the real fact which is Hawaii is still a nation-state with a multi-ethnic make-up. In 1890, the census was 84.4% of the Hawaii Nationals were Kanaka Maoli and 15.6% were Hawaii Nationals of other ethnic origin. This comprised of 51 % of the total residents and 49% were foreigners (including contract workers from Asia, South Pacific, Europe, US Americans) and others from various parts of the world. It's people like him that emphasizes Hawaiians only, to discredit the argument of a Hawaiian Nation and create the image of a colonized tribe. Figuring there is less of us in the society, we will just merge into the WASP system of USA like all the "immigrants" that came to US America. Well, we are not immigrants, we are nationals, citizens of the Hawaiian Kingdom.Conklin must think he is the voice of authority and intelligence; but in essence, he is just like "Bush the Fabricator and Exaggerator Emeritus!" Unfortunately, there are many mentally-challenged persons that allow themselves to be duped by them, willingly......................................I see dear CON-klin is up to his old tricks again. How dare this ingrate foreigner criticize our country he was never a part of. He should be glad that the Iroquois and other native Americans helped his colonial ancestors fight the British. I don't see him recognizing them as instrumental in helping the British colonialist gain their independence from the British. American history is made up of myths that you all take as fact. Strange, don't you think? In case he forgot, the King was the one who instructed Judd to write the letter; as he was the boss and not Judd. Typically, it's you and your American-mentality that makes it a racial issue. Many of us are well aware of our history and not need your racist spin. Don't hate us because we're beautiful! LOL... Silly boy!Ultracrepidarian critic, CONklin, forgets the country was lead by the Hawaiian King who hired people to ultimately do his bidding for the good of the country and its people.Sorry Ponosize, I didn't log you out before I wrote. To continue with CON-klin's perfidious and racist remarks, he declared war against Hawaii nationals, particularly the kanaka maoli, because he supports the U.S. belligerent occupation of Hawai'i. He has made references before that Richards was responsible for Hawai'i 's recognition as an independent nation. The fact was the King, his boss, instructed him to accompany the Minister Ha'alilio to accomplish this. When U.S. Americans thought he was the minister, he corrected them and told them he was just the secretary for Ha'alilio. They were amazed that the "nigger" was his boss. The King was aware that would happen and that is why Richards went along. Hawaiians weren't stupid. We knew of the racist attitude of the west and employed whites to buffer that racist attitude. Smart, eh? The rule of law deems Hawaii as a recognized nation and that is what we are celebrating. This is something CONklin and the U.S. cannot take away.

  • Aloha E Tane, I think out that interesting reportage what comes out is the legal status of Hawaii in a nutshell.

Rep. Ball argued the effort to annex Hawai'i by joint resolution after the defeat of the treaty as "a deliberate attempt to do unlawfully that which can not be lawfully done."

In some ways I think we waist our time with the Conklin's of the world. But then it hones our thinking and we find things we need for real people in power. Kenny seems to have political and media outlets like the Cato group and so we must answer. Why don't we have these platforms? In many way I think our position is a truly conservative one. We are all about the rule of law and the respect for Sovereignty. Why not have accepted Iraq's invasion of Kuwait [we did give Saddam permission to go in] and say since Iraq declared it was traditionally theirs, roll over and go back to sleep.
Perhaps we should entertain Stephen Colbert's approach and embrace their positions and show just how well thought out and logical their are?

    Aloha

    Kai
  • Sorry Tane... Jere Krischel LOL

Not to make light of what they try to do but I can only laugh because the more they type and the more they open their mouth removes all doubt that they are fools.

Before I used to be so shocked how some people like them can be. So nasty and so cruel but over time I learned one thing: People are not as racist and supportive as they would like people to believe. The vast majority of people are supportive of Hawaiians. It seems to be those few mentally unstable like my former neighbor who come online to use it as a tool to spread their racism against Hawaiians but offline even in my work people always tell me how bad they feel for Hawaiians and what the U.S. did to them.

I'm not trying to discount the effect that the fools have on the Internet but kala mai but I can confidently say that there are some oiwi who do what they can do counter the lies online. IMHO it's important to remember too that the world does not revolve around the U.S. nor does it revolve around Americans like them.

So while I can understand that you want us to respond to them... I dont and I wont. They are not the center of the discussions. However Hawaiians are so me personally I always try to keep the light and thus focus on Hawaiians... not on them. Eventually like I discovered with my neighbor the good people overrule the pilau people. For those who respond directly to them... kudos to you but to me they do not matter to me. That is why I respond in the third person. They do not deserve a response from people like us who by the way they look down on and disrespect... so while I think it's great that you respond to him... sorry but I will NEVER respond to people like them. They do not serve it. Sorry but I love your responses but to me I will NEVER respond to them. Ever. Personally they look down on Hawaiians... so no... just no. I sure give you credit though for responding to them which I think is a good thing... but I still won't out of respect for my kupuna who they disrespect with their diatribes and rants about Hawaiians.

    Aloha ~~ Lana
  • The reason I don't let Conklin get away with much is the fact that he and his cohorts have openly declared war against the Hawaiians and spread their 'opala with the world and he is building his army of followers. Malia Zimmerman who got fired from Pacific Island News for unethical practices have joined in league with Conklin, Sen Slom, her lover, Hanafin (who rightfully died a few years ago), Hawaii Grassroots, Aloha For All, Twigg-Smith, Michelee Caukin who bases her views and writings on Conklins's info and many others including William Burgess and his wife Sandra and Jere Kirschell. They get away with it and the Federalist Society go along with them on the issues. They have banded together to promote their position as U.S. Americans and stand behind the Morgan Report that exonerates their country and officials to insist Hawai'i is part of the U.S.A. This group of thugs have downed the Hawaiians continuously and will continue to do so.

The weapon we have are the facts and their laws, international laws and Kingdom laws and the real facts rather than the myths they so dilligently put out there. That's why we have to discredit their arguments because many believe them instead of the truth. We need to harp on the facts and details of what transpired and why what the U.S. did is unlawful. It's a given that we do love many U.S. American people as we do people from all counhtries; that doesn't change. The fact that the U.S. government's actions are done in their citizens' name is seditious at best. Most people are clueless and love us as much as we love them. It doesn't alter the fact that their government is continuously violating its treaty with us and the laws of occupation as well as disregarding our neutrality status. People say that they weren't born then when it happened; but their government was there and is a governing body with continuity from its inception till now. It is their kuleana to see that their government becomes pono so they can hold their heads up high and not be shamed by it. It's the US people that have to tell their government to do what's right and be just and fix the hewa it created in their names which affects them and us till today. Many of you should be more confident of your personal talent to rebut the falsehood by presenting the facts such as I laid out. Open up and hone your skills as many have done besides myself. I can see the talent of many writers on this list. It took me a while to hone my skills; I wasn't born with it ready-made; but I learned to counter them at whatever level they want to discourse. Study them and then counter; try not to get too emotional but present the facts as they are. Keep impressing the detailed facts; research and you will find things I've missed. I have a Hawaiian heart and a Portagee mouth. Sometimes it does get me into a fix. LOL... I know I can get as sarcastic and condescending as the next person; it's that I'm not afraid to say it because I know I'm right and have the detailed facts. I'd like to see more people use their talent; for it's better than mine which I'm still working on. Sometimes we have to fight them with their own tools and do it better. This is why I posted this; so one can glean to see what works and what doesn't. I had to find out on my own and have embarassed myself for not doing a better job but I kept on. I'm my worst critic and boy is it humbling! So go for it! We need more people to counter the character assasination they apply to us and we can beat them in their own game.
  • Anakele,

Yes, Ken seeks recognition and status from his viewers. He finds comfort by ridiculing those of kanaka maoli descent. Perhaps he seeking a term in office, who knows what their true intentions are. Most often, a person like this will continue to spread lies and Tane and many others that debated his outrageous remarks. It's people like him that gives us the "MANA" to stand firm!
  • My papale is off to you Tane...your calm intellect addresses the issues and in my humble opinion, you won that debate hands down. Ken's words are meant to incite anger and I must admit that some of his blog posts have had that affect on me. I realize there is only one way to fight him and others like him and that is through my own self-empowerment born out of dedicated research and understanding of the past. It isn't an easy endeavor for those of us not born hearing or speaking our mother tongue, and so we must learn to overcome that in order to access the mana'o of our kupuna. Peeling back the layers of propaganda, trying to fathom what our people were thinking and feeling at the time of the overthrow, putting ourselves in their shoes in their time. We can gather all the facts and do all the research, but in the end, it is in our na'au where we feel the spirit of our kupuna, that we find truth. Westerners, particularly Americans, put little value in that realm, if they even acknowledge it all. Like Lana likes to say, Ken is one pilau bugga and I would prefer not to invade my space with his ugliness. However he is spreading lies and propaganda so it is our kuleana to negate that. Mahalo for taking on that kuleana and when I get good like you, I'll kick his okole too.
  • Lana,

Yes, I do agree. I've spemt endless hours with him on genealogy as our 'ohana comes out of Wainiha and abroad. We have so much in common and I learn from him too. I had updated my page and just use my Hawaiian names. I thank Tane and Pono to turning me on to "Maoli World." As odd as it may seem. The first time was by acident, I never browsed. The second time driven by curiosity. I try to be very active, before this kinda sit back and watch. Now, its like what the " " is going on, we need to do this. I look toward Tane for advice, very akamai. He was talking abou the language he used and its definition and I started to laugh this morning while doing errands. Such a blessing to have him in my life!
  • Hi Alice.

Ironically I think he gets social security. Who does he think helps to pay for him just to bitch about Hawaiians? Uh... some Hawaiians who contribute to the system. To me he is so lame. He actually makes me laugh with some of the crap that he writes. Worse... he actually believes what he writes so more I laugh because the more he types and the more he speaks like at the Iolani Palace... the more he looks like the fool that he is.

On the other hand I like Tane. Tane is in good shape, wears clean shirts, and brushes his hair. Too bad Ken can't do the same :P Then again his body and state of mind is just like his thoughts... as in KAPULU LOL Seriously I cannot stop laughing when I see some of his posts. Worse I don't respond to him directly. Instead I ALWAYS write about him in the third person... so MORE I laugh LOL

    Aloha ~~ Lana
  • Bobby,

That sassy dip is made by my company, Ha'upu Kele, LLC. I seem to drop off many products to Pono's Tavern on the outskirts of Pearl City. Yes, we do enjoy tea and coffee with our meals too. We just made a new dip with onions, I think the one you had was he buttermilk dip. I love that one too. How did the sauce taste? Let me know, I'm still working on the labels and hope Pono can add in some pizzazz to it. If you have any suggestions, let me know on Tuesday when you decide to hand at the tavern. I'm always looking for insight and Tane provides a unique "mana" into the issues that we are confronted with idiots like this one. Unofrtuantely, he thinks all Hawaiians are stupid and don't know a darn thing or two. Ken is pilau, however his attitude reminds of the "shit" that has been continously dumped by idiots like him. There is no room for this type of mental disorder.

Lana, you're right, his lies will eventually catch up with him. He just might be asking the very same people he criticizes for kokua. Now, that is odd!
  • I forgot to add that your responses blow him out of the water LOL And yes I know he lurks every chance he gets. Typical.
  • Howzit Tane.

Ken reminds me of a mentally unstable person who used to live in my subdivision. He tried to lie about people, tried to intimidate and harass them... only to end up having the majority of people decide to replace him with me then he ended up dying unexpectedly.

Ehh... I not worried about him. The vast majority of Haole people whom I know are cool. He is in the minority as in the racists who single out and target Hawaiians based on our national origin minority. Sorry to say... but eventually pilau people die so I no worry....

    Aloha~Lana
