  • How do you become a working member of this organization?
  • I envy you and the close knowledge you have of our monarchy.
  • Why should we go to swee the movie made by the white man and their interpretation of the Princess? Seeing the trailer is enough to make my stomach turn. The Princess wasn't a hula dancer. Court dancers entertained the Ali'i. Yes, she had a white boy love interest while in Europe. Discretion was utmost and she was very careful about her reputation. We know it wasn't an adulterous affair; she was a Christian princess and under strict decorum, unlike today's loose-morality. Any frivolous misadventure could remove her from the line of succession. They portrayed her as a modern-day princess that behaves like a commoner in the U.S.A. with today's immorality. This is all common knowledge.

U.S. Americans viewed her as an abomination according to their society; although she left a positive opinion of the people that saw and met her. They were in disbelief that a Hawaiian Princess could be so cultured and refined. They were captivated with her exotic beauty. The powers that be in Washington, D.C. saw her as a threat to their purpose. There was talk back then to poison the Princess without leaving a trail back to them. Some of us believe they were successful in their plot as arsenic was often used to rid themselves of the ali'i.

Princess Kaiulani was too much of a lady to write more graphically of the abuse committed by the crude and crassy, U.S. American soldiers. Stories passed down to us was that she was harrassed almost daily by them who would try to peak through the windows of her home to catch a glimpse of the Princess any time of the day while making licentious remarks of her. Their obscene behavior prompted her to finally take that fateful trip to Hawai'i Island.

These are a few of the stories I learned while growing up. My GGG grandmother and my Great-grandmother and her sisters were part of the royal courts. Stories shared was always under the QT and some were known commonly.

Growing up, we would visit my great-tutu's sister and her family in Napili, Maui. In the parlor (livingroom) there were two shrines, one for Liliuokalani and the other was for Kaiulani with their portraits and ornamental displays beneath them. We would always acknowledge them and talk about them before moving on to family topics.

No offense to the actress, but she was never raised as a princess to be a future queen nor how one conducts oneself as one as the Hawaiian Kingdom's Constitution sets the conditions and laws dealing with the monarchy and the criteria they are subjected to in order to remain eligible or in the line of succession and the whims of the current monarch.

We should remember that generations evolve in accepted disciplines and mores, and lifestyles. About six generations have come and a new one has already beginning to rise. It would be difficult to truly represent the nature of the preveious generations especially going that far back and do it justice. Basic human traits are consistent but how they conduct themselves are dependant on the society they have grown up in.

The Princess was human with all the frailties and subject to the acceptable conduct of her time. Add to that her position as crown princess and the ever-watchful eyes that surrounded her and the expectations demanded of her. To refer her as a barbarian is loiable and disingenuous. It's a reflection of the white man's superiority expressed by their doctrines of Manifest Destiny.

It would have been better for a Hawaiian to tell the story of the Princess rather than an interpretation of a haole (foreigner) using their values and concept, perspective to interpret stories of a different culture and period in time.

Maybe they should have done a film of Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain and show her romping in the grass rolling around with her paramour or a scene in her boudoir. Maybe Martha Washington spreading her legs for old Georgie Boy and digging her nose while dancing in a square dance and beating her black slaves. How about Jimmy Swaggart and his adulterous affairs? Hmmmm! We could go on for sensationalism and cast aspersions on those we revere.

  • Yeah what Kaohi stated.

They show the romanticization of a princess... when she disliked haole men

    This is her true story
