OCCUPATION vs COLONIZATION....a discussion

Today, Kehaulani Kauanui will be broadcasting a discussion similar to the one recently presented at Kamakakuokalani at UH. There is much debate about whether we are "Occupied" or "Colonized", and many suggest that it is an "either-or" situation. I believe we are BOTH. We are occupied AND suffer under the negative effects of Colonization. Many look at International Law (UN etc.) for remedy...and the discussion is which "International Court" to enter...the International Court of Justice (Keanu) or the General Assembly (decolonization assertion). It is an on-going debate...and nobody argues it better than Keanu Sai, Kehaulani Kauanui...and Maivan Lam (expert at International Law). Many discussions can come of this.Donna-------------------------INDIGENOUS POLITICS: FROM NATIVE NEW ENGLAND AND BEYONDRadio Program on WESU, Middletown, CT: Tuesdays 4-5 PM EDT/ 1-2 PM PSTListen Online While the Show Airs: www.wesufm.orgOn Tuesday, November 23, 2009, your host J. • That is awful...I am left speechless. I was brought up a pasicifist by my Dad mostly. He was in the Navy (grad from Anapolis) and was an architectural engineer at Pearl Harbor/Design division. One day he came home and said..."I'm not going to work tomorrow at Pearl Harbor. I quit today." He said he no longer would be part of the United States war machine (was in the middle of the Vietnam war). My Mom freaked out as he even refused his pension and retirement pay...saying..."I don't want their blood money." Well, to say the least, that is how I was raised....to be against violence and war. I know Jim Albertini when he was on O'ahu. He worked with a group called Catholic Action against the war. That's when I became active...and have been against war ever since.
    great work you are doing.

  • I will trust you with your information re: kanaka maoli children sent to the mainland. I'm not aware of that, but don't put anything past these awful people, who at one point in history condemn people of color, and then...adopt them as some sort of "badge" showing how PC they are. (Angelina Jolie...et al). It is a trend...and trends aren't the depth of human existence...but just surface.

    Mahalo for the information...always.

  • Aloha Donna,

Since all of the above have happened, I was surprised to hear Canada's 'talk' on human trafficking and Hague. About removing children from their extended families and sending them to the mainland, thus, disenfrenchising the children from their parents, culture, and sense of place. It was a Dennis Dunn (Hawaii) game plan to send over 2,000 children to the mainland. Adopt them out without parents consent was an outcome based on, huh? The Hague is far more important to me right now although I personally prefer the Dr. Kehaulani and Dr. Maivan Lam 'decolonization' over Keanu Sai's 'Law of Occupation.' For the reason that I mentioned 'human trafficking' because of the weaknesses within the welfare system. Weak excuse, but it worked. There is nothing preventing the 'state' from human trafficking Na Kanaka children to the mainland. I see Keanu Sai's 'Law of Occupation' as a future frontline not an immediate one. I've been talking to Leon Siu each time after the 'talk's' and he said to continue the tit for tat, but not all frontliners have the stamina to gain grounds or push the edge further ahead beyond the status quo.

We have in Hawaii a sect of native Americans from North Carolina (don't know their tribal same). They are sovereign, but not by actual genealogy, I believe it was by affiliates which is similar to Hawaiian Civic Clubs.

If one understands the Haystack committee one can understand CT and the like and how it relates to Hawaii. A little bit of wayfaring can help too. Kaohi
