When I read different names of people and where they are from, I noticed that the name changes yet the same person. Does anyone know why names changes for same person - status/rank? Does it change for each wahine the kane has a child from?
Hui e Alice....that book you mention, I have. My cousin bought me that book. I think there was about 26 or so acknowledged wives. I can't count um all, but I have them all listed in my database. Yeah, it gets confusing when they use diff. names. But you should know that. Look at me. LOL *shhhh* But I legally changed mine, so mo' hahd fo people to figure it out. What's scary, after 19 yrs. of legally changing mine, some creditor/collection acct. called my cell phone asking me under my old name. Weirdos. But my attorney took care of that. :)
Now you mentioned Kekela, maybe the half sister? You must have another Kekela listed in your hands. I show other Kekela, but seems that they were of diff. generations, but I can't tell for sure. I do show the one that married Kalaimamahu, but list no children.
Yes, I do agree. Just looking at Kamehameha, his wifes, half sister/brother - WOW! I recall uncle Charlie Alo working on a book regarding Kamehemeha's wives - not sure if he had 26 or more. I was looking at a konohiki Kekela from Big Island who marry Kamehameha half brother, Kalaimamahu. After his death, she is given by Kamehmeha I to nephew of Kaumualii. I wondering if this Kekela is the half sister to Kamehameha and if so, is she the same Konohiki for Wainiha (same time frame - 1810-1820 give or take) under the inoa Keaka. Keaka says she came to Kaua'i with her brother Kinopu, Keaka born Kainaliu, Kona.
This where I'm at tonight and last night. I was tired and decided to stay home. I had an alumni get together, but decided that the genealogy (talk story) with cousin Jennie Keuma from Kaua'i was more important. Three and half hours talking genealogy - 40/41 year difference in age and till close. What a 'olu'olu wahine to have as a first cousin. It has been many years since I left Kaua'i in 1995 since I last spoke to her. Thanks to DOM who assisted to get her phone number. Mahalo Ke Akua.
Traditionally, a person is known by a variety of names throughout their life. This is why the genealogy charts get so confusing at times and red lines go all over the place to say it's the same person. LOL.... You ought to hear the many names I am called by friends classmates, friends, family, etc. I guess this also includes the cuss-word names thrown at me. Heee heee heee! There is also the fact that many have more than one name (middle names) and surnames and nicknames. Just within my family, I can't keep up with the various names that's used or they being called. What a world; what a life! I love it!
