Havai'ki

Aia kekahi hoomauana ma ka punaewele puni honua, eia hoi me ka huaolelo o Havai'ki. He aha la kela? He mea puni hoi ia! Nui kuu iini ole i ka ikena i ia huaolelo kakau ia. Nui ka hoonaukiuki, nui ka huikau no ka poe i ka ike-hepa a nui ka hupo i ke kakau ana ia ia.Estas formas sao as normais: Hawai'i, Savai'i, Havai'i, Hawaiki, 'Avaiki. A parada glotal represente o som de proto-polinesia [k]. Em poucas palavras havaianas, tem duas formas, por exemplo: moko/mo'o ou ha'i/haki. Por isso, se nao deve escrever a palavar assim: Havai'ki. O ' e [k] eh a mesma foneme.

    So they used Hawaiki before? That was my point though. Hawaiki, Havai'i, Hawai'i, Savai'i, 'Avaiki, but not Havai'ki. :)

    But for me personally, people spend too much emphasis on spelling (which bugs me to no end) that they forget the TRUE pronunciation, or not so much "true" but rather focus on pronouncing it correctly rather than using some orthography that changes constantly throughout the short time our people had a written language.

    Sorry Kalani, I'm going to be one of them to misspell, misspronouce our Na Kupuna language. Feel free to correct me anytime. I like to use Hawaiki because that is what we used in the 70's because white people couldn't pronounce Hawai'i (Hawaa'ee). Since that time I have been at admiration for Niihau and their spoken language. They speak at a fantastic speed far better than English language. I suspect the missionaries was so pisst at this and changed the Hawaiian language to speak from the back of their throat to slow down talking and thinking. Mahalo Kaohi
