Fast Lane

So naturally we are going to have people who ignore the law and drive fast or recklessly. Please everyone, have some consideration for doing it in residential areas, especially around schools. I personally witnessed a close friend of mines six year old nephew getting run down and killed by someone who was speeding through our neighborhood some years ago. Believe me when I say that the memories still haunt my dreams every now and then. To think that this tragedy is always a possibility to any one of my children as well as someone elses is beyond what I would like to be pondering. Yet, the fact remains that there will always be those behind the wheel of a vehicle that either ignore, disregard, or just don't think period when it comes to them driving fast in areas that children, or anyone for that matter, may just step out onto the road in these rural areas and become a victim. The incident that I witnessed was a hit and run. The driver took off and didn't turn himself in for three days after the incident. Luckily, he did turn himself in. This may not be the case in other instances of the same happening. Speed limits are posted near schools people, acknowledge them, PLEASE! Our keiki are our livelihood and our future, we must look out for their well being and safety at all times, whether they are our very own or not. This is part of our being ohana with one another here in Hawai'i, we take care of each other and look out for one another and our families, related or not. This is one of the many factors that separate Hawai'i from the rest of the world.
