I am not hupo come on here! Roll out the carpet see if I fall and lady you are more than welcome anytime to my hale on Kauai, anytime that is when Dayne drops in.

MAHALOS nrv8n8 for your welcome SMILE I am excited to be here, to learn, care and share our liove for our culture that's it!
  • Excuse me...not sure if I missed something here from what Kaohi's last comment - indicating that

1). Guy 'Aina my cousin through Naihe is working very hard for his people and don't have time for your nonsense. I think that is out of line to speak for someone else.

    ......... and to claim

2). I have a seat of power so to speak here in Kohala, Big Island; those are not my thoughts nor intention. I just do work that is a calling and appointed to me by my revered na Kupuna saying it is my rightful place to
speak up for po'e and protect our lands here.

But then again Kaohi states in her message that she is a bit spacy sometimes so I'll take it from that thought.

I don't know where the last paragraph of Kaohi comes from when she says, "But, I suggest that you learn which I know it is difficult do to humble yourself and follow your protocol on this Maoliworld. Like you said, you are a follower of "Atooi Alii Nui Dayne Aipolani" . In otherwords if you are not, you will be found out and called on the carpet, and Dayne will have to answer for your mess up. Kaohi" But I take it for HER thoughts and HER feelings as is her opinion.

ALOHA AND WELCOME DEREKIRRA! E 'KOKO MAI! I'm taking in your blog post here to your excitement of being here and telling us who you are in the gift you have in art. I don't take it any other way but an introduction so make yourself at home and feel free to be part of any discussion and using personal blogs as you do here on Maoliworld...SMILE.
  • Derekirra,

I read your other post. May I make a suggestion, and that is because you come off as a white person, I would refrain from posting your thoughts. Especially thoughts that lack understanding, meaning, and political smarts. We do not fill 'gods gap' with frivilous notions. White people do and do it quite well, especially if there is a dollar at the end of it's outcome.

Tane is a highly respected person and he is guiding this maoli world into the next realm.
Amelia does great research that keeps us above grounds.
Stephanie is from Kohala a seat of power so to speak.
Guy Aina is working very hard for his people and don't have time for your nonesense
The rest of us are trying to get this community to work in cyberspace.

Because of my Futuristic outlook, I am a bit spacy sometimes.

But, I suggest that you learn which I know it is difficult do to humble yourself and follow your protocol on this Maoliworld. Like you said, you are a follower of "Atooi Alii Nui Dayne Aipolani" . In otherwords if you are not, you will be found out and called on the carpet, and Dayne will have to answer for your mess up. • I did production line flowers on ceramic for years.
And I came across an old drawing of women on surfboards, I don't have the citation infront of me but will get it to you as soon as I locate it.

I was so intrigued by this drawing of Hawaiian women surfing that I got together with two chicanos and we did a mural. We altered the black and white with color and added other forms to it. I wanted to take out the mist, for me it represented the King Arthur death cloud, sorta Australian, I think. That was just my opinion.

It was just a project that I wanted to process out in my head about Hawaiian women surfing in the 1800s. At that time, we lost Rell and before that Pua ( pure Hawaiian) they are greats in surfing.

One can place a golden rectangle on most master piece paintings, for awhile that had intirgued me actually it was an obsession. I think I'm over it.

I also do miniatures, it was a way of calming my mind into focusing on a medium that I could manipulate into a doll house.

I've been a Hawaiian bottle collector for over 40 years, lately I haven't really done anything as far as looking for these treasures. Do you know Liko Martin he is the best source for traditional practice. He is truly revered among those of us whose been in the movement for a long time.

About the classroom crack, it's a real thing for boys. What I was told that young boys are experiencing heat in their scrotum and they need to either walk it off or stand. So, I just tell my students to stand up push their chairs in and lean over to read or write. Boys show a relief on their faces when I tell them this, and they give me a smile. Other boys will follow with this behavior too.

Even so, I respect your rights of passage. Kaohi
  • No need to appologize for being a woman, mtruly we are all equal in Akua's eye.
The classroom crack, well that's funny, as for Francis although most goes over my head I have learnt a great deal from him.
The "Golden Rectangle" do you mean as in art or aboriginal navigation as per the cross of the gods?
Yes there are very similar mo'olelo in Aboriginal Dreaming, of course it's still all about faith.
The Southern Cross and the Milky way go hand in hand, crux point south it's Orion the Milky way follows crux.
I am interested to know what type of painting you like to do.
I like your converstation mahalos again, oh and in regards to protocol, asking first is good motto, Night Po
  • About your southern cross is it in the milky way?

Oops I was talking at the top of my head. Please excuse what I said about connecting Papa and Wakea and Haloa to Kumulipo. I was being too lazy and that is not correct by our protocol standards. I was acturally trying to be political and flippin. We have people that work very hard at presenting the Kumulipo in chants. I should not pose as a person of that kuleana. I was being careless. Kaohi
  • I do know about Francis's work because I promised Kamaka here in Waianae before she passed, that I would stay conscious of Makahiki and the navigational stars.

In my classrooms, when ever my students mostly boys walkabout, I always ask them if they are from Australia. And they laugh and walk back to their seats. I have a great respect for people that walkabout here in Waianae, I know they are actively thinking as oppose to depression.

My creativity happens in the moment, and my medium is two dimension but made to look as if it's three dimension. Do you know what is a golden rectangle? In the Kumulipo is there a pre-existence from your culture which is similar to Papa Wakea and Haloa. I am a female, forgot to mention that in respect of ones rights of passage. Kaohi
  • Aloha Kaohi mahalos for you comments.

I can see you are well versed and knowledgeable in Polynesian cultural astronomy, maika'i.
To answer your question in regards to "Sovereignty" and "cultural practise"
"Sovereignty" = stewardship of the 'aina and "cultural practises" well lets talk walkabout

I'd love to introduce you to Francis Whurther and talk about cultural astronomy and native navigation
but hey Im just a humble artist with a passion for uri pono uri nana
  • "I am an aboriginal painter, my kuleana is to portray, reflect & document kanaka maoli sovereignty and culture." Cool, we need an aboriginal painter to portray, reflect and document kanaka maoli sovereignty and their culture practices. The question is what sovereignty and culture practices? Can you enlighten me on your milky way images as to how this differs from Tonga?

    The Polynesian Triangle
The Polynesian people live in a triangle in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This triangle consists of Hawaii on the northern corner, about 3,000 miles from North America; Easter Island on the eastern corner, about 3,000 miles from South America; and New Zealand on the southern corner, about 1,200 miles from Australia. This triagnle, I believe, came into existence by the use of the sun and stars by Polynesian sea travellers. In the summer time in Polynesia, the sun rises from the southeast of Hawaii where Easter Island can be located. This is the line from the north to the east of the Polynesian triangle. At the same time, the sun rises from thenortheast of New Zealnd from Easter Island, and this makes the line from the south to the east of the triangle. In the spring when the sun sets and in the fall before the sun rises, the Milky Way makes a line north and south on the top of New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa, and hawaii. This makes up the third side of the triangle which is the south to the north line. The Milky Way turns slowly from the north and south to the east and west until the sun rises again." (Fale 118)
